The only thing Bernie Sanders likes more than vilifying ‘millionaires and billionaires’ is talking about the imminent danger of climate change. He has frequently lambasted President Trump and Republicans for failing to take the issue seriously.
But now we learn that like many people on the left, Bernie has a massive carbon footprint, especially when it comes to air travel.
Louis Casiano reports at FOX News:
Bernie Sanders spent nearly $300G on private air travel in October: reportsBernie Sanders is so concerned about climate change that he spent nearly $300,000 on private air travel in October so he could speak to audiences in nine battleground states prior to November’s midterm elections. The independent U.S. senator from Vermont also used the opportunity to test the waters for a potential 2020 presidential run, according to reports.Sanders’ 2018 campaign committee issued an Oct. 10 payment of $297,685 to New York-based Apollo Jets, a charter jet company used by retired sports stars Derek Jeter and Shaquille O’Neal, according to federal campaign reports obtained by VTDigger.org, a watchdog news site in Vermont.“This expense was for transportation for the senator’s nine-day, nine-state tour to support Democratic candidates up and down the ballot ahead of Election Day,” said Arianna Jones, senior communications adviser for Friends of Bernie Sanders…The Sanders campaign purchased nearly $5,000 in carbon offsets to balance out the emissions produced from the travel. A carbon offset is a reduction in emissions to compensate for emissions elsewhere.
Brent Scher of the Washington Free Beacon notes that Sanders places a lot of blame for climate change on the transportation industry:
Bernie Sanders’s Campaign Spent $300k on Private Plane Travel in OctoberAir travel is one of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions, with some estimations saying that the aviation industry accounts for about 11 percent of transportation-related emissions in the country. The environmental impact is greatly magnified in cases of private flights, which carry far fewer people per trip than commercial jets.Sanders claims on his website that “climate change is the single greatest threat facing our planet” and puts the blame chiefly on the growing rate of emissions being produced by the transportation sector.”Global climate change is real, it is caused mainly by emissions released from burning fossil fuels and it poses a catastrophic threat to the long-term longevity of our planet,” he writes. “The transportation sector accounts for about 26 percent of carbon pollution emissions.”
Bernie’s Twitter feed is packed with messages about climate change:
The left’s devotion to climate change is religious, perhaps cult-like would be more accurate, yet their actions often conflict with their rhetoric.
As Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit has said many times:
“I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people who tell me it’s a crisis act like it’s a crisis.”
Progressives have become the crazy person standing on a street corner holding a sign that says “Repent, the end is near.”
As an example, I’ll leave you with this clip of MSNBC’s Katy Tur saying her life is pointless because the planet is going to be destroyed by climate change:
