Trump: No Plans to Fire Rosenstein

Just before President Donald Trump boarded Air Force One, he told the press he has no plans to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Rosenstein is traveling with Trump to Orlando, FL. Speculation has grown around a possible firing of Rosenstein after The New York Times reported last month that he offered to tape Trump and discuss invoking the 25th amendment with Cabinet Members.

From Politico:

“I look forward to being with him. That’ll be very nice,” Trump said of Rosenstein. “We’re going to be talking. We’ll be talking on the plane. I actually have a good relationship, other than there’s been no collusion, folks, no collusion. But I have a very good relationship.”Asked directly if he has plans to fire Rosenstein, Trump said “no, I don’t.” He added later that he “didn’t know Rod before, but I’ve gotten to know him and I get along very well with him.”

Trump said that he never met Rosenstein before the start of the probe into possible Russian collusion, but that “I’ve gotten to know him, and I get along very well with him.”

Here is a readout of their talk aboard the plane:

Rosenstein blasted the report, but it’s more of non-denial denial:

“The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said in a statement. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. But let me be clear about this: Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
