Rep. Claudia Tenney calls alma mater Colgate University ‘left-wing crazy school’

During a campaign event on Monday, Rep. Claudia Tenney said she graduated from Colgate University 35 years ago and thought “it was a left-wing crazy school, and it’s only gotten worse.”

Her comments came days before she is scheduled to debate her opponent, Anthony Brindisi, Thursday morning at Colgate. The two are embroiled in a hotly contested Congressional race.

Colgate University officials contacted by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard declined to comment on the Congreswoman’s remarks about Colgate.

Brindisi’s campaign manager, Ellen Foster – also a Colgate graduate – called Tenney’s comments “offensive and insulting,” and called on her to apologize.

“She insulted not only the community of students and graduates who owe their success to Colgate, but the wonderful staff and faculty who make Colgate one of the top universities in the country,” she said.
