#MeToo Hypocrisy: Dems and media look other way as Keith Ellison says his accuser fabricated claims

Anyone still claiming that #MeToo is anything other than a political weapon is either hopelessly naive or happily—and selectively—wielding it to mow down political foes while ignoring #MeToo allegations against their political friends.

Case in point: the frenzy surrounding a single decades-old allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has attracted the attention of every #MeToo figure on the planet, yet these same people are surprisingly uninterested in the allegations of long-standing domestic abuse against Keith Ellison.

Indeed, the media is strangely quiet on the subject.  An internet search for “Brett Kavanaugh” gleans “accuser” stories from NBC, CNN, WaPo, BBC, and the rest of the usual suspects.  A search for “Keith Ellison,” on the other hand, results in stories by Hot Air, the DC Caller, and Fox News (the latter also has a story under the Kavanaugh search).  To be fair, there is a story downpage by CNN, and there is one, also downpage, from Politico . . . focusing not on the charges but on the fact that “Conservatives claim media, Dems ignoring allegations against Ellison.”

Let’s be clear, Ellison’s accuser is not saying that a teenager drunkenly groped but in no other way harmed her when she was in high school; she is saying she was the victim of violence and abuse in this decade, in this century.

Ellison is now claiming not only that this ex-girlfriend, Karen Monahan, is lying, but so, too, are all the other women who might come forward with similar claims.

Fox News reports:

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison pushed back Friday against allegations of domestic abuse, saying his accuser fabricated the story about him.The Minnesota Democrat also dismissed a medical record that named him as the abuser, but said he can’t be sure more people won’t “cook up” allegations against him.Ellison appeared on a televised debate for the Minnesota attorney general’s position, where he faced grilling on the allegations raised by ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan, who said he sent her threatening text messages and once screamed obscenities at her as he dragged her off a bed by her feet.On Wednesday, Monahan published a medical document where a doctor wrote that Monahan “states that she was in a very stressful environment for years, emotional and physical abuse by a partner with whom she is now separated.””She identifies the individual she was involved with as Congressman Ellison, and she is worried about retribution if she identifies him publicly,” the document added.Ellison, who serves as deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), decried Monahan’s story as “not true” and assured that an “ongoing investigation” will conclude that Monahan’s claims are false. He dismissed the medical record, saying it was written a year after his relationship with Monahan ended.

From the anti-Trump, Kavanaugh-bashing, #MeToo #Resistance media?  *Crickets*

This blatant double-standard is appalling, and it serves the exact opposite purpose intended by the left and its media lapdogs. When then-candidate Trump said he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone without losing supporters, he wasn’t being literal. He was making a point. The more unfairly he is treated, the more ridicule and disdain heaped upon him and on his supporters, the more fervent that support.

A media and leftist politic that attacks Trump for qualities, personality traits, and foibles for which it held up and exalted (or only secretly admired) the likes of JFK, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Obama damage only themselves . . . and make their target teflon. Trump couldn’t shoot someone on 5th, but thanks to the anti-Trump #Resistance and its #NeverTrump cohorts, he can do pretty much anything short of that.

Likewise, the attacks on Kavanaugh, while excusing (ignoring), the more credible accusations against Ellison do nothing to help the left and the #MeToo movement. Indeed, anyone who didn’t already hold the horrible suspicion the movement wasn’t about women or about empowerment have had their deepest fears and suspicions confirmed as Ellison is given a pass, a pass—it should be noted—that effectively protects him from future allegations of abuse.

Is this what #MeToo is?  A political weapon that effectively protects abusers as long as they are Democrats and/or of the right (i.e. leftist) minority?  A political weapon that effectively demonizes the accused as long as they are Republicans and/or of the privileged majority?  The answers are and always were “yes.”
