Update: Indictment for Israeli leftist accused of turning in Palestinians who sold land to Jews

Ezra Nawi, who works for a group that supposedly helps Palestinians, could have put Palestinians at risk of death or torture

In January 2016 we reported on a story I called “almost too unbelievable to be true, but it is true.”

The story was about Ezra Nawi, who was revealed on an undercover operation to have bragged about turning in to the Palestinian Authority police Palestinians who sold land to Jews. That put the Palestinians at risk of death and torture, as I explained in Israeli leftist brags turned in Palestinians who sell land to Jews, risking their death and torture:

Ezra Nawi is not just another Israeli leftist activist. He was one of the most prominent Israeli activists engaged in direct action to interfere with Israeli military activities in Judea and Samaria (the “West Bank”).

Nawi’s actions brought him accolades abroad….

The fears [of so-called human rights groups] of infiltration were realized when an Israeli television station released the results of an undercover operation which caught a prominent Israeli leftist activist on tape bragging that he had helped send Palestinians to their death by ratting them out to the Palestinian Authority and others for selling land to Jews. Selling land to Jews is considered a capital offense in the Palestinian territories; remember, when you hear groups like JVP accuse Israel of “Apartheid” and ethnic cleansing, it is the Palestinians who want land completely free of Jews.

The activist caught on tape was none other than Ezra Nawi….

Haaretz further reports:

The footage of Nawi was captured by a right-wing activist who reportedly became his close acquaintance. In the footage, Nawi, who is unaware of being recorded, is heard telling of four Palestinian landowners who contacted him, thinking he was also involved in the land trade.
“I give their photos and their phone numbers immediately to the [Palestinian] Preventive Security Force,” Nawi says in the recording. “The Authority catches them and kills them. But before they kill them they beat them up.”

Read that prior post for more background, including on Nawi’s conviction in 1995 for the statutory rape of a 15-year old Palestinian boy.

Fast forward to this week. Nawi has been indicted for his actions in turning in Palestinian land sellers.

The Times of Israel reports:

Prosecutors filed an indictment Sunday against Israeli left-wing activist Ezra Nawi on charges of passing information to the Palestinian Authority security service about Palestinians who planned to sell West Bank land to Israeli Jews, thereby endangering the sellers’ lives.

The indictment, filed by state prosecutors at the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, charges Nawi with violating a law that forbids Israeli citizens from working for the Palestinian Authority’s security branches.

The trial will make Nawi the first Jew to be tried for aiding the Palestinian Authority — a crime under a clause from the 1995 Oslo Accords that subsequently entered Israeli penal law, with a sentence of up to five years in prison.

The Judea and Samaria District Police originally recommended that the prosecution charge Nawi and another activist in the left-wing Ta’ayush organization, Guy Butavia, with the far more serious crimes of contacting a foreign agent and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Haaretz has more details on the indictment:

The indictment says Nawi gave sources in the Palestinian Preventive Security forces pictures of settlers cultivating Palestinian lands in the south Hebron Hills in the southern West Bank. The photos, he said, show that the Palestinian landowner recognized the Jewish farmers’ legitimate ownership of the land in question.

Another section of the indictment charges Nawi with telling sources in the Palestinian Authority, through another Palestinian activist – and with the help of the person planted by Ad Kan – about two meetings he had held with a Palestinian land agent who was seeking to buy lands from Palestinians in the South Hebron Hills and also passed on documents relating to the transactions.

Only five years for betraying someone up to death?

“Selling land to Jews is considered a capital offense in the Palestinian territories.”

I’m back on my heels trying to assimilate this. Odd that in my 30 years voraciously consuming the NYTs, WaPo, and CNN that this is the first I am hearing of this.

“Moderate” Jordan had the same law for many years. As far as I know, they still do, in spite of their peace treaty with Israel.

      Yes, they do.

But somehow it’s Israel that is an ‘apartheid regime.’ I’m back on my heels trying to assimilate that. The only explanation I can think of is the (Alex) Bensky Corollary.

Indeed. The Bensky Corollary to Everything: Any statement, principle, or declaration by anybody, anywhere, any time, contains the implicit proviso “except for Jews.”

THEY DO NOT Change: Leftists from around the world all operate with the same mentality. Nasty, devious and a plague on society. Liberalism really is a mental health disorder…. Is there anything a Leftist will NOT do to further their own agenda?

Pity that Mossad can’t wipe that smirk off his face.

He has blood lust. You hang with Muslims long enough and it becomes natural. He likes hurting people. He likes arranging rape, torture and death.

He should charged as an accessory to murder since he is well aware of the consequences of his perfidy.

While I agree with the sentiment, unless the death(s) can be proven it isn’t possible to charge him with that type of crime. This charge seems like the prosecutor is afraid of appropriately charging because of the notoriously Leftist Israel Supreme Court.

That’s the Jewish left, exemplified in one person.

I’m torn on this one. The mans intent is apparently hostile towards the Jewish state, but his actions result in one group of muslims killing another. So how do you call this one? Do you call it based on his hostility towards Israel (which is a bad thing) or do you base your judgment on the end result (more dead Palestinians)? Honestly, I’m just not sure how to feel about this.

You base it on his collaboration with Palestinians to murder the future.

That future will be forged by those Palestinians willing to negotiate and cooperate to create a lasting peace.

A Palestinian willing to sell land to a Jew is the beginnings of that future, and he murdered it.

He should suffer a special hell for that and the unknown number of Jews and Palestinians who will die as a result.
