REPORT: British Govt “Sacks” Doctor Because He Doesn’t Believe Gender is Chosen

Says his right to free speech is being suppressed

Doctor David Mackereth worked for the NHS as a medical assessor for 26 years until recently when he was “sacked” and ruled “unfit” to continue working with the Department because “he refused to identify patients as being of a sex that they did not see themselves as.”

What should be a biological discussion is now one of religious and speech issues. Though it’s not unique to Christianity to believe gender is determined biologically and can’t be chosen on a whim, Mackereth’s stance is portrayed (at least by The Telegraph) as one based on religious principles.

Mackereth claims his freedom of speech is being quashed because he’s been fired for refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs.

The Telegraph has the story:

Dr Mackereth, who registered as a doctor in 1989 and spent most of his career working in Accident & Emergency wards, said: “I’m not attacking the transgender movement. But, I’m defending my right to freedom of speech, and freedom of belief.

“I don’t believe I should be compelled to use a specific pronoun. I am not setting out to upset anyone. But, if upsetting someone can lead to doctors being sacked then, as a society we have to examine where we are going.”

Dr Mackereth, a Reformed Baptist, started a training course in May to become a health and disability assessor for the DWP. His role would have meant interviewing and then writing independent reports about the health of those claiming disability benefits.

However, when his instructor stated that reports must only refer to the patient – or “client” – by the sex that person identified themselves as, a discussion took place among the medics about the “fluid” nature of gender, Dr Mackereth claims.

“I said that I had a problem with this. I believe that gender is defined by biology and genetics. And that as a Christian the Bible teaches us that God made humans male or female. I could have kept my mouth shut. But, it was the right time to raise it.

“The tutor took me aside and said he had passed my comments up the chain to the DWP.”

Mackereth was contacted by the DWP, who said an unwillingness to refer to individuals by their preferred pronoun “could be considered to be harassment as defined by the 2010 Equality Act”.

Dr Mackereth then received an email from Advanced Personnel Management (APM), the agency that employed him and would have hired him out to the DWP.

They explained he could undergo training about the department’s policy, but the DWP had consulted lawyers and was adamant that any report or contact with clients should refer to them in their chosen sex otherwise it “could be considered to be harassment as defined by the 2010 Equality Act”.

The doctor replied that “in good conscience” he could not conform to those demands, and so the contract was terminated between them.

He said: “Firstly, we are not allowed to say what we believe. Secondly, as my case shows, we are not allowed to think what we believe. Finally, we are not allowed to defend what we believe.

“By stating what has been believed by mankind for centuries – namely that gender and sex are determined at birth – you can come under ferocious attack.

“If we are no longer allowed to say that you believe sex and gender are the same and are determined at birth, everyone who holds my views can be sacked on the spot under this Act. I’m not an isolated case.”

Just a few years back, the NHS was criticized for “failing” transgendered people:

Just a few months ago, after intense backlash, the NHS walked back a question included in primary school surveys asking 10-year-olds if they felt “the same inside” as the gender they were born.

Amazingly (or not), refusal to honor preferred pronouns is considered harassment, but sacking someone for their religious beliefs isn’t.

Brave new world, indeed.

Good grief;
What is Trump supposed to make of these people when he visits?
Do we even want to have ANYTHING to do with them???

Unless something has changed since I last looked, there is no “right” to free speech in Britain.

This is why I have ZERO tolerance for this transgender bullshit liberals are preaching.

It’s not about acceptance or tolerance. It’s about DEMANDING you refer to them however they see fit. It’s about them DEMANDING the power to police your language and your attitude towards them.

Well considering that the “science” it is based on, aka The Twins study was basically just John Money’s way of getting to photo child porn under the guize of doing a “Study”. Of course the twin that was raised as a “girl” finally had enough of it by the time he was 15 and and put a stop to it. Oh, btw, both twins killed themselves later in life, wonder if having the “boy” twin dry hump the “girl” twin while Money photographed it had anything to do with that?

Guy says, “I’m Napoleon!”, we say he’s crazy. Guy says, “I’m the Empress Josephine!” …

As the post points out, this isn’t merely a matter of “religious belief.” Sex is determined by chromosomes. This is science. Medical conditions and treatments may vary for the two sexes for valid scientific reasons.

Arminius in reply to tarheelkate. | July 9, 2018 at 10:38 pm

Historically there has been no conflict between religion and science (and no, the trial and house arrest of Galileo doesn’t prove otherwise as the trial had very little do with science despite the modern mythology). In fact, per the Judeo-Christian tradition studying the natural world was a form of worship. Per the Judeo-Christian tradition we are made in God’s image. And part of the belief that we are made in God’s image is that we are rational beings. As is God; that’s why we can discern the laws of nature that govern the universe.

Even Einstein, who atheists try to claim as one of their own, understood this. If you wanted to make Einstein angry, call him an atheist. As he studied the universe he realized it had to have been created by a rational creator simply because in a limited way he could understand it. He didn’t believe in a personal god; he was perhaps best described as a deist. There had to be a god, and he often said he wanted to ask god what he was thinking when he created all this. He didn’t think too much about his god. He said that there was no point in trying to understand this god as the creator was so far beyond his understanding that it would have been pointless. He referred to the creator as the Supreme Intelligence.

It’s actually the atheists who claim their is a conflict between religion and science. It’s because the atheists simply don’t want to acknowledge their debt to the believes who went before them.

Science deals with the measurable parts of Creation. But there is much, much more to Creation than that which can be measured.

Two boxes.

Sex Biological
Sex Preference

No. That’s how we got into this jackassery. No. One box, male or female. If the patient answers it wrong. Put it right. Are you going to give a woman a prostate exam because she claims she is a man? Are you going to do a pap smear on a man because he claims he is a woman.

Delusional is what these people are. You don’t feed delusion.

Sex is genetic, binary: male and female. Gender is physical and mental attributes: masculine and feminine, respectively. While there is a strong correlation between sex and gender, technically, gender is a spectrum. The transgender spectrum, including homosexuals, bisexuals, transvestites, etc., are gender traits (e.g. sexual orientation) that are significantly divergent from the individual’s sex. There is an open question whether and to what degree gender traits are chosen. Gender attributes through medical corruption is a choice. Gender attributes that reflect mental networks are not so clearly discerned.

Wrong, that is complete and utter horse exhaust. It isn’t backed up by science or even history.

    Wrong.

    ss396 in reply to n.n. | July 10, 2018 at 8:31 am

Gender is male, female, and neuter. This “gender identity” game doesn’t play at all well in languages that assign gender to nouns; which covers very much the rest of the world.

Your sex and gender is determined by your chromosomes. Those men and women who can’t accept this reality are mentally ill. Doctors can create disguises, but they can’t change a man into a women or viseversa.

He seems to be suffering from delusions. Tragically, he mistakenly believes he is an American, with constitutional rights that have weight in a court of law that may possibly outweigh political correctness.

He is severely mistaken.

You don’t need to be a Christian to know there are only two sexes. You can be anybody but a liberal.

You want to know what’s really insane about the SJW’s beliefs about “gender.” On the one hand they believe it’s a social construct. On other hand, you can choose your “gender.”

Take your pick, SJWs. If it’s a social construct, then you can’t choose it. If you can choose it, it’s not a social construct. It can be one or the other but it can’t be both.

Or it can be neither; it’s biological.

But post-modernists don’t actually believe in science, despite claiming that it’s conservatives who are the science deniers. Post-modernists are simply Marxists who decided not to call themselves Marxists when the horrors of socialism and its big brother communism began to become widely known.

So they simply dropped all the references to Marx but retained all the totalitarian aspects. There is no objective reality, so reality is what they tell you it is. There is no human nature, so that means they can mold people into whatever they wish. It used to be the New Soviet Man, but now there way of destroying Western civilization is to indoctrinate their Red Guards into believing there are forty seven “genders” or however many we’re up to at this point.

There is no such thing as objective truth, no god above the cult leaders. All there is is power.

As this doctor just learned. As Brett Weinstein, the biology fired from Evergreen College, learned.

Why the scare quotes around “sacked”?

So if it is a ‘choice’ as the British government seems to believe, then to make that choice implies that it can be influenced, or even changed by the right therapy. Or even that some might make that ‘choice’ incorrectly, and with therapy move to a much more acceptable choice for their own mental health.

I merely leave this here as an observation, with the fuse still fizzing.

For their leftist sins, britain will be enslaved by islam.

I don’t know if it is for their sins but it’s happening anyway. Unless their men grow a pair they will die.

History has shown again and again that once Islam takes hold it takes fire and sword to remove them and they never once give up. They may wait to muster their strength but they never give up land once it is take.

If only Christianity held that view.

Shouldn’t they all be busily readying their kitchen knives for confiscation?

Seriously though, this is the same objection that sparked the rise of Jordan Peterson. Compelled speech that violated conscience (integrity to truths in his case).

I’m glad my father didn’t live to see how low Brittania has fallen. What a tragedy

In the picture, is the first girl in line sucking her thumb? If so, this perfectly illustrates the Left and they transgender policy as well as many of their other policies/beliefs.

” it’s not unique to Christianity to believe gender is determined biologically”

I’d argue that the whole mess originated when activists began to substitute “gender” for “sex.” It was not that long ago that all these various forms that we and physicians fill out asked only about “sex” (and offered only two possible checkboxes as answers).

It’s been a long time since I actually saw a form that asked about “sex”; now they have all substituted “gender” where “sex” used to be.

Arguments about “gender” are (and likely will remain) inconclusive and contentious, BUT, arguments about “sex” can be based on science (aka biological realities).

Considering that evolution is the single most powerful organizing principle in biology, and that sexual selection is an inescapable part of evolutionary theory, it does seem remarkable that physicians (whose profession is supposed to be based on science) are to be bullied into refusing to acknowledge that (1) sex is biological, and (2) as a fundamental part of biology, it remains an immutable attribute of sexual organisms. Including ol’ homo sap.

This guy should be issued an engraved invitation to immigrate to the USA where he can speak freely and make more money than working for the government.

I like Germaine Greer’s analysis of the transgender process:

“Just because you lop off your penis and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a ******* woman,” Ms Greer said in a statement given to the Victoria Derbyshire show. “I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that won’t turn me into a ******* cocker spaniel.”
