Trump’s Peace Initiative with North Korea Triggers Mainstream European Media

‘It’s time to isolate Donald Trump,’ urges leading German weekly DER SPIEGEL

The recently concluded summit in Singapore between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un provoked sharp responses from the mainstream media in Germany and France. The official European Union’s response to the historic meeting was muted, with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, an avid Twitter user, refraining to comment on the meeting.

The sharpest reaction came from Germany, where the country’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas took the opportunity to undermine the US President.

“Germany’s answer to ‘America First’ is ‘Europe United’,” Germany’s state-owned DW News reported on Wednesday, citing Maas. “Germany has responded to US President Donald Trump’s egotistic policy of ‘America First’ by calling on the European Union to “bundle its strength” and show more courage,” the broadcaster continued.

Maas may have picked a wrong week to tout EU’s strength, as Italy closed its ports to a German-owned ‘rescue’ boat carrying hundreds of asylum seekers and senior EU politician Guy Verhofstadt hysterically claimed that ‘Europe has a fifth column in its ranks’ naming elected European politicians such as France’s Marie Le Pen, Holland’s Geert Wilders, UK’s Nigel Farage, Hungary’s Orbàn, Poland’s Kaczynski, Italy’s Salvini as recipients of ‘Kremlin money and Intel.’

Chancellor Angela Merkel was unavailable for comments as she faced arguably the toughest crisis since she resumed office two months ago. Chancellor Merkel’s Bavarian Catholic sister party, the Christian Social Union, wants her to revise her controversial open doors policy for illegal immigrants. State of Bavaria wants authority to refuse entry to unauthorized asylum-seekers at its borders. Chancellor Merkel is opposed to such measure.

The German mainstream media echoed the sentiments expressed by Foreign Minister Maas. German weekly Der Spiegel, widely read in government circles, ran an editorial titled: ‘It’s Time to Isolate Donald Trump.’ The weekly issued a call-to-arms, urging, “Europe can offer resistance by isolating Trump, by avoiding him and by making it explicitly clear why they are doing so.”

German weekly Die Zeit took a pessimist view of the Singapore summit, writing: “The summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un offered little substance.” Die Zeit, was more concerned by President Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran deal, which the weekly described as the “destruction of the Liberal World Order” while “Europe [was] the loser in the [US] withdrawal from the Iran deal.”

The agreement between the U.S. and North Korea “leaves Japan in cold on North Korea,” Germany’s DW News remarked. “The outcome of the US-North Korea summit in Singapore is a headache for Japan. None of Tokyo’s priorities were addressed by Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un. Japan must now reorient itself.” The U.S. President’s was ‘undermining the security order in Asia,’ the broadcaster concluded.

French President Emmanuel Macron, also a frequent Twitter user, remained silent on the summit in Singapore.

“Does the (President Trump’s) sunshine policy have a future?” Frech journal Le Monde diplomatique asked. China “worries about a Trump-Kim deal,” the journal cautioned.

According to French TV channel France 24, “most analysts” thought that “Trump-Kim meeting in Singapore didn’t amount to much.” There was “despair in Korea policy circles” over the signed agreement which “turned into depression hours later, when Trump held an extraordinary press conference,” the broadcaster continued.

To underline this claim, the broadcaster quoted Robert Kelly, a professor at South Korea’s Pusan University. “God, this is just depressing. All that hype for this? All that drama and the Nobel talk? Come, art of the deal. This is it? This is, well, pathetic given that the US president was personally involved,” Kelly said.

France-based broadcaster EuroNews also cited ‘many analysts’, who unanimously agreed that ‘Pyongyang had been let off the hook and that Trump had given away substantial leverage.’

Praise for President Trump’s initiative came from Europe’s anti-establishment parties.

“What Donald Trump accomplished in Singapore had not been achieved by any other President before him—not even by the Nobel Prize winner [Obama],” said Alexander Gauland, the co-leader of Germany right-wing AfD party.

UK politician Nigel Farage launched a campaign to have President Trump nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Farage, who represents Britain in the EU parliament, wants to start a petition and seek support of other European politicians. “A lot of people find it difficult not to try and discredit everything Trump does, but I remember the hysteria over awarding the prize to Obama for things he might do,” he said.

European elite that handed President Obama a Nobel Peace Prize just for showing up to work, can’t find it in themselves to acknowledge that US President Trump has succeeded in defusing one of the world’s most dangerous flashpoints. They would rather see the current US President fail than for peace to return to the Korean Peninsula.

What “financial interests” does the EU and Germany have in them?

    Follow the money.

‘It’s Time to Isolate Donald Trump’ is a bit like saying “It’s Time We Did Something About Hurricanes”.

Right … Well, let us know how it works out.

But like the deadbeat son who had to have his parents take him to court to have him evicted to get him to stand on his own two feet, it was a case of the son’s entitlement mentality enabled by the parents allowing far too long with lame excuses by the son. Respect for each other left a long time before an eviction notice.

“‘It’s time to isolate Donald Trump,’”

Actually, it appears that we will have to isolate Europe, they are suffering from a disease worse than Ebola, a deadly cancer, Islam. I would not be surprised if all of Europe will eventually need all life eradicated, and then be repopulated. Think of it as chemo, followed by a bone marrow transplant.

I certainly hope not, but I am reminded of a biblical story about Abraham bargaining with God to preserve the innocent in Sodom and Gomorrah. He extracted promises from God that He would refrain from destroying the city if there were 50, then fewer, all the way down to 10 good men in both cities. He knew he had lost, because he knew there weren’t 10 decent men in the entire population of two cities.

Trump is so unconventional. His opponents here and across the globe and almost the entire media complex are conventional in their “resistance.” That’s what makes this so entertaining for me.

So far it seems the conventional is losing.

All over the world the ‘Common People’ are revolting! MSMs, elites and ruling classes hardest hit!

These politicians don’t want North Korea ‘solved’ any more than al sharpton wants race issues solved. And it’s true across the board in these world problems. They want to be able to constantly run on promising to fix the but never succeeding and leaving the in a state of perpetual stasis.

Moreover if somebody does solve the problem then their own people might expect them to solve problems too – and they can’t condone being asked to perform.

That’s OK. New Europe is perfectly willing work with Donald Trump. In fact, this would be a wonderful time for our President to move our troops from Germany to Poland…where they will be welcome and appreciated.

To paraphrase a former President, you can either be part of the solution or part of the problem and at the moment it appears Europe wants to be part of the problem.

These dumb fucks should be falling over themselves at the chance of peace being achieved on the Korean peninsula. Instead they are falling over themselves to ensure peace doesn’t break out at all.

That being the case one really does have to wonder at what their motivation is. Is someone in the back ground pulling the European strings. Someone who peace could be an issue as it would increase America prestige while reducing theirs because even they couldn’t bring peace to the peninsula???

It’s not nearly that complicated. They were just as frantic and reactionary when President Reagan was saving them from the evil empire.

Far off lands like North Korea aren’t real to them. It’s all about domestic politics. They don’t even really see President Trump as real. He’s just a stand-in for their domestic political opponents.

American Human | June 15, 2018 at 10:25 am

It is obvious that this Haas fellow is about as smart as a box of rocks and the knives in his drawer are all pretty dull. America First is a domestic policy, not a foreign policy, although AF affects the foreign policy. If he wants to isolate the U.S. let him try.
There has never been a country like the U.S. of A. and there never will be again.
Anyone ever read The Foundation Trilogy by Asimov? By a loose comparison “The Foundation” could be the U.S.
Hitch your cart to the U.S. or flounder along by yourself and never be successful.

The Elitist Establishment leadership of Europe is the enemy of the people of the USA. As Trump is the champion of the citizens of the US, these same leaders are his enemies as well. As long as your enemies are speaking ill of you, everything is going well. When they start praising you, it is time to look out.

Liberals truly believe that only they can solve the problems which they created in the first place.

And last time I checked, he works for us, not the EU, so F’em.

They are running noise because they are pissed about the loss of commerce in Iran. It’s a feeble attempt to project their failures of diplomacy for greedy purposes in the debacle with Obama.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to healthguyfsu. | June 15, 2018 at 12:49 pm

German companies rushed in without giving consideration to what would happen when Iran cheated, and they most certainly knew that Iran has a long pattern of cheating. They were greedy, rash, short term gain focused.

They asked for and deserve what is happening.

buckeyeminuteman | June 15, 2018 at 11:51 am

In all fairness, Kim Jong Un did meet with the leader of a nation that has killed 60,000,000 babies…

Regardless of the accuracy of the quoted number, a principal difference between the US and, for example, China, is that in the US, each abortion decision is made on a case-by-case basis by the one person most affected, the mother. An abortion cannot happen in the US, absent the mother’s consent. This arrangement is biased in favor of life, because it wholly deprives the State of the power to coerce abortions.

The situation was wholly different in China, where the State coerced abortions to the point of producing a population imbalance.

So while you are trying to re-write our laws, consider carefully what you do, so that you don’t give our country the power to engage in a wholesale slaughter of the innocents.

      JohnSmith100 in reply to Valerie. | June 15, 2018 at 12:43 pm

A big part of the problem is and ever increasing spread between when people become sexual and when they have skills to be able to afford to reproduce. A few hundred years ago, people were ready to start earning their own way at about the same time they were physically ready to reproduce, today there is at least a ten year gap.

      n.n in reply to Valerie. | June 15, 2018 at 12:47 pm

The difference between one-child and selective-child (i.e. life deemed unworthy) is between a minority and general psychopathy. In both cases, a wholly innocent human life is aborted without justifiable cause (e.g. self-defense), or specifically for wealth, pleasure, leisure, and commonly a measure of social stability. And, from around one month, with the formation of a coherent nervous system (i.e. sentience), it is an act of torture. That said, the significant difference between before and after-birth elective abortions, is that the former is worth less than the latter, in both recycled and taxable terms. Still, a human life evolves from conception, and life before and after birth ostensibly have an intrinsic value.

The mother and father have first responsibility. Should they fail, or deny responsibility, they are still liable (e.g. child support payments), but the responsibility is assumed by society (in order to avoid debasing human life).

I find the individual choices of America more abhorrent than a distant commisar’s ruling. I’ve watched enough video’s of women wailing because the commisar’s delegates are showing up to kill the baby, or the weeping husband to understand the evil. BUT SIXTY MILLION INDIVIDUAL DECISIONS TO KILL YOUR OWN BABY? My country is sick… Sick not in the way that China is, but still sick in a foundational way that China has not attained to yet.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to buckeyeminuteman. | June 15, 2018 at 12:36 pm

By your reasoning, every couple which suffers a miscarriage has murdered a baby, taken a bit further, every egg which was unfertilized must be murder.

Life is a continuous process, eggs and sperm both live. So every unsuccessful sperm, must be murder.

Nature terminates lots of pregnancies, usually without any sign that it happened.

What is worse than not being born is to be born to people who cannot or will not give the 20 or so years of hour by hour, day by day devotion.

Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown were both examples of what happens when parents refuse to properly parent. I use them as examples because their obnoxious parents tried to place blame on others for their failings, but there really are quite large numbers of such failures by all races, granted far more with some than others.

All children need committed parents to thrive, society pays a high price when people fail their children.

The issue is elective abortion of a [wholly innocent] human life that begins with conception.

The mother and father have first responsibility. Should they fail, or deny responsibility, they are still liable (e.g. child support payments), but the responsibility is assumed by society (in order to avoid debasing human life).

“What is worse than not being born is to be born to people who cannot or will not give the 20 or so years of hour by hour, day by day devotion.”

Oh, exactly. MUCH better to be dead than to have less than optimal parents. Perhaps we should kill the children of those you deem to inadequate parents?

      Arminius in reply to JohnSmith100. | June 15, 2018 at 3:39 pm

Your inane, insensible straw man constitutes no one’s reasoning. It doesn’t even constitute reasoning. And no pro-lifer has ever said anything like “every couple which suffers a miscarriage has murdered a baby, taken a bit further, every egg which was unfertilized must be murder” or “So every unsuccessful sperm, must be murder.”

Because, frankly, it’s an incredibly stupid thing to say. You actually contend that every time a couple has sex it MUST result in a pregnancy or otherwise it’s murder. If sex doesn’t result in a pregnancy then that couple is murdering those poor unfertilized eggs and those poor, unsuccessful sperm! As a matter of fact you’re contending that sex that does result in pregnancy is still murder because only one sperm can be successful, which causes a chemical change in the case of the egg so none of the other 40 million to 1.2 billion sperm cells a healthy man can release during sex can enter.

Oh, the humanity! Pro-lifers think that people who have sex, whether it results in pregnancy or not, aren’t just murderers. They’re f***ing Stalin and Pol Pot all wrapped into one.

Hey, yeah, I’d go with that inane, insensible straw man if I were you. I’d totes advertise you don’t know how human reproduction works.

Europe: “we have to stop this man before he’s even more successful!”

Or as was said in the classic Blazing Saddles, “We have to protect our phoney baloney jobs here, gentlemen! We must do something about this immediately! Immediately! Immediately! Harrumph! Harrumph! Harrumph!”

Much like in Iraq. EU countries are worried that there working with NK WMD programs will be disclosed.

‘According to French TV channel France 24, ‘most analysts’ thought that ‘Trump-Kim meeting in Singapore didn’t amount to much.’”

Let’s see. The summit and the diplomacy leading up to the summit resulted in three American hostages released, a NORK commitment to return American emains, two shuttered nuclear facilities which the NORKs will either fully or partially destroy, and the NORKs committed to ending nuclear testing.

All of those things, unlike the empty and unverifiable promises the feckless leftists in European capitals and the white House at the time tried to spin as accomplishments, we will know about when and if they happen. Of course, one of those things has already happened; we got the hostages back. We’ll know if they cooperate on returning the remains of American servicemen, we have the intelligence capability to determine if they keep their promise to destroy those nuclear facilities, and nobody needs to tell us if they test a nuclear weapon. We’ll know.

And we got it all without prematurely lifting sanctions or sending the NORKs billions of dollars in ransom/material support to terrorism money. Oh, and one more thing. We didn’t make a secret side deal to try to help the NORKs gain access to the international money system through foreign banks so they can evade the sanctions that we aren’t lifting.

I’d say that’s not nothing.

By the way, it’s a hoot listening to these German officials saying they’re going to unite Europe against Trump. They’re the idiots who divided Europe by insisting on suicidal levels of hostile third world immigration, and then trying to strong arm everyone to take them in (when they never asked for them in the first place) by using the EU.

So in addition to Italy saying it’s had enough illegal immigration and it’s closing its ports, the Eastern Europeans are giving the finger to Germany by promising to form a “coalition of the willing” to defend their borders from the Germans idiocy.

It’s also a hoot that German officials cite people like LePenn, Salvini, Orban, etc., as a “fifth Column” in Europe. Only officials who hate their own people would consider anyone except the hostile mob they’re importing as the fifth column.

It’s hilarious. They’re going to unite Europe against Trump by calling Europeans a fifth column.

The sad fact is they think they’re the smart ones.

NK needs money. Fast. Don’t be surprised to see total denuclearization within 18 months.

“It’s hilarious. They’re going to unite Europe against Trump by calling Europeans a fifth column.”

Yes. But many of the the EU leadership were part of the fifth column.
