Trump Gives His “Full Endorsement” to DeSantis for Florida Governor

Representative Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is running for governor of Florida and has received President Trump’s full endorsement.

Though DeSantis had yet to announce his decision about running for governor at the time, Trump tweeted in December of last year that DeSantis would “make a GREAT Governor of Florida.”

The Orlando Sentinel reports:

Trump’s support for DeSantis could help the tea party conservative outflank the right wing of GOP front-runner Adam Putnam, who is Florida’s agriculture commissioner and boasts a campaign war chest of $15.7 million. DeSantis has about $9.6 million cash on hand. Both DeSantis and Putnam have filed paperwork to receive matching public funds for donations of $250 or less to their campaigns.DeSantis’ campaign released a statement shortly after the tweet, saying that they’re “proud to have the full support of President Trump.”Just how much Trump gets personally involved in the Republican primary, however, remains to be seen. DeSantis campaign spokesman Brad Herold said he plans to join Trump on the stump when he comes to Florida to campaign.Herold also noted Trump’s son, Donald Trump, Jr., will campaign with DeSantis at a rally in The Villages on July 17.The additional Trump tweet comes a day after a Fox News poll was released showing Putnam with a 32 percent to 17 percent advantage over DeSantis.
