Trump spoke at the NRA convention Friday and as part of his remarks, gave a shout out to Kanye West. Trump credited recent supportive comments from West for his rise in a poll among African Americans.

Trump thanks Kanye West in NRA speech, claims rise in poll numbers among African-AmericansPresident Trump praised Kanye West on Friday, saying that the rapper “must have some power” as he touted a surge in poll numbers among African-Americans.The comments came during the president’s remarks at National Rifle’s Association annual convention in Dallas, more than a week since West, in mid-tweetstorm, said there was “dragon energy” between him and his “brother” Trump.“And by the way, Kanye West must have some power because you probably saw, I doubled my African-American poll numbers,” Trump told the crowd in remarks that also touched on gun rights, job gains and unemployment. “We went from 11 to 22 in one week. Thank you, Kanye. Thank you.”“When I saw the numbers I said there must be a mistake. How can that happen?” Trump continued. “Even the pollsters thought there must be a mistake.”

Black male support for Trump doubles after Kanye tweets, poll findsA new poll shows that there was a significant uptick in support for President Trump among black males following tweets from hip-hop mogul Kanye West appearing to back the president.According to a Reuters poll taken April 29, 22 percent of black males approved of the president’s job performance, up from 11 percent one week earlier. Seven percent of the demographic also reported having “mixed feelings” about the president, up from 1.5 percent.Seventy-one percent of the cohort still said they disapproved of Mr. Trump’s performance in office.Support among black females remained relatively steady over that same span, increasing slightly from 6 to 9 percent.

Meanwhile, Kanye’s favorability with Republicans has skyrocketed, and plummeted with Democrats:
Thirty-four percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Kanye West, according to a new Huffington Post/YouGov poll, up from 11 percent in 2015. His disapproval rating among Republicans — 74 percent three years ago — is down to 43 percent. (I assume because of his recent favorable comments about Trump.) The rapper’s numbers among Democrats were already low and now have dipped even more. He had a net favorability of -47 among Democrats in 2015, and is now down to -56.
