Tom Steyer Thinks His Effort to Impeach Trump is Like the Civil Rights Movement
“says Nancy Pelosi and others holding back on calling for impeachment are “normalizing” Donald Trump’s presidency”
The liberal billionaire Tom Steyer is spending time, and lots of money, on an effort to get Democrats elected in 2018 with the ultimate goal of impeaching Trump. Despite his best efforts, Democratic leaders aren’t following his advice.
Edward-Isaac Dovere writes at Politico:
Why Tom Steyer Doesn’t Care What Nancy Pelosi Thinks
Tom Steyer says the Democrats telling him to call off his impeachment crusade are like those who told civil rights activists to be patient, and he says Nancy Pelosi and others holding back on calling for impeachment are “normalizing” Donald Trump’s presidency.
Steyer doesn’t care that Democratic leaders are worried that he could blow their chance at winning the House by talking up impeachment around the country and in his TV ads—though he argues he’s actually helping Democrats. He says he’s the only person willing to tell the truth. And the thing about a self-made billionaire with nothing to lose: It’s hard for anyone to convince him he might be wrong, or to get him to stop.
“Impeaching the president of the United States is upsetting the status quo. Anytime in American history that there has been an attempt to upset the status quo, there have been people within the status quo—within the establishment—saying, ‘It may be true, it may be something we should deal with, it may be important, but not now,’” Steyer told me in an interview for POLITICO’s Off Message podcast. “If you look at the civil rights movement, the pushback was not, ‘You’re not telling the truth,’ the pushback was, ‘We’re dealing with it in time. Stand down so we can deal with it in time.’”…
For Steyer, it’s not just Pelosi who’s wrong, it’s every Democrat who stands with her. They’re putting the country at risk right now, he said, and they’re destroying themselves in the long term.
Even if Democrats want to impeach Trump, and many of them do, they don’t want to broadcast it ahead of the midterms. That would be honest.
Steyer is playing to the anger of the Democrat base, also known as The Resistance. Democrats trying to get elected know this could play right into Trump’s hands by energizing Republican voters.
Steyer has some other issues, too. Todd Shepherd reports at the Washington Free Beacon:
Group Says Steyer’s Town Halls Fail His Own Standards for Transparency
A group in support of workers in traditional energy sectors says Tom Steyer’s highly promoted town halls aren’t living up to Steyer’s own words on transparency because event organizers are generally banning recordings by the general public.
Power the Future, an advocacy non-profit, sent one of their employees to a recent “Need To Impeach” town hall run by the California billionaire, only to see a sign at the check-in table which read, “In accordance with ‘Need to Impeach’ rules and regulations, no unauthorized or pre-scheduled filming is allowed at this event.”
On at least two occasions in the same article by Time magazine, Steyer advocated his efforts toward transparency.

Tom Steyer has more money than sense. Trump has turned out to be a great president.
Styer has turned out to be a great fool.
He sure has a grand opinion of himself.
Yeah. I guess he wants to the the white Martin Luther King, Jr., in this struggle.
Trump has twice as much money as Tom Steyer, and that means that Trumps was a better businessman, and now president. Tom Steyer just cannot handle being second rate.
Really? How do you know Trump has more money than Steyer, let alone twice as much? He has repeatedly lied in the past about the size of his, er, fortune, so how can you know how big it is now?
It’s yuuuuggee …
I spoke to Trump and Steyer.
Steyer has less money. And a butt-ugly imbecile for a wife.
Money can’t buy you Melania.
It not only can but did.
“Steyer has some other issues, too.”
No doubt, but the biggliest is a multi-billionaire named Trump living rent free in this guy’s head.
He can’t stand the thought of a president he can’t buy.
Oh, he could buy him.
For someone who loves to grandstand and pound the table with his opinions, this is one of your lamer attempts.
Sure he could, Milhouse.
Explain how?
Tens of millions spent by the government investigating Donald Trump, before and after the election, spy’s imbedded in his campaign by the government, all communications illegally surveilled by the government, and they can’t find anything…
But you believe that as President of the United States he can be bought.
Your hatred allows you to believe anything.
The evidence that he can be bought is his long history as a con man. If he hasn’t been bought it’s only because nobody’s made him a good enough offer.
Geez, milhouse is wright:

I love how Steyer claims impeachment is to protect the nation, but wants the jury to convict on charges to be determined later.
Articles of Impeachment
1) this space reserved for a high crime tbd later
2) something something something
3) another something we will just make up
4) something else to round this out to four charges

Spending lots of money is good for the Trump economy. Which is good for Trump’s reelection.
So, actually, Tom Steyer is working for President Trump’s reelection!
Spending lots of money to produce nothing is not money well-spent. Like stimulus plans, political campaigns take good money and turn it away from productivity, impoverishing us all.
Yes, but that’s not the way a populist like Trump thinks.
Nothing is relative. The money is now out of an unproductive billionaire’s hands and now freely circulating in the economy again.
Money doesn’t have to be “well spent” to do its job; as long as it’s circulating in the general economy, it’s working. Without money moving around, there’s no commercial activity; and commercial activity or lack thereof is the difference between a “good” and a “bad” economy.
If money had to be “well spent” to do us any good, the Marxists would have been one of history’s success stories.
Since when do Marxists have a record of spending well? It’s just that ordinary people spend their own money for their own purposes better than Marxists have ever done.
If Steyer was a man he would run against Trump and make his case. He instead snipes from a hiding place and tries to overthrough a president. He’s a slug.
“If steyer was a man…”
Look who he married. That shrew rivals moooochelle obama for obnoxious and hideous.
They fed him too much koolaid.
What a maroon.
It takes more than being extremely wealthy to become the President. President Trump has it; Mr. Steyer does not!
Just another yahoo who wants the President impeached and convicted for being named Trump. One has to ask, why? So far, the President’s policies have not cost the American People anything; just the opposite. The claimed negative effects of future policies are claimed to apply to those who are able bodied but produce nothing or who are in this country illegally. Has Trump proposed creating a loyal paramilitary group to support him, as Barack Obama did? Has he worked to destroy the positive racial accord, as Barack Obama did? Has he ignored the Constitution, as Barack Obama did? No. So, exactly why would people want to have him removed from office? Follow the money. When you understand how someone benefits from an action, or proposed course of action, it explains so much.
Leave Steyer alone. He’s doing as much as anyone to divide the Democrat Party. In fact, Republicans ought to donate to his cause.
Trump is the windmill of Steyer’s mind.
Many of us are far more concerned with “normalizing” progressives who are just a shade to the right of Stalin. When did it become a “mainstream” position in this country to advocate for censorship of citizens and removal of constitutionally protected rights?
“When did it become mainstream?”
Between 2008 and 2016.
That’s the left’s goal: mainstream censorship against political opposition until they grab all power. That’s what failed candidate klinton was supposed to close on.
The bullet we dodged by electing Donald Trump is nearly unimaginable. We would have lost our country.
Never forget the GOPe’s role – and their continuing role now – in that dictatorial power grab.
Trump is a genius! He has the enemy campaigning for his reelection.
