“The proposal was met with murmurs of agreement”

The student who suggested this wants the funds reallocated to the black student union. The reasoning is bogus.

Campus Reform reports:

Student gov threatens to give CR funds to Black Student Union

A University of California, Berkeley Student Senator proposed that all student government funding for the Berkeley College Republicans be reallocated to the Black Student Union.

According to The Daily Californian, Senator Rizza Estacio made an amendment to the proposed budget allocations to student organizations and university groups which would eliminate the $1,000 funding for the BCR and add it to the budget for the BSU.

Estacio said that her reasoning for the reallocation is because the BCRs “have violated a lot of, like, lead center rules during like free speech week,” adding that because of this, the organization does not deserve funding from the ASUC.

The proposal was met with murmurs of agreement from across the room, but some senators were concerned with the possible legal obstacles to the amendment.

“I believe there are genuine concerns about the legal implications of taking away funding from BCR,” cautioned Senator Taehan Lee.

This concern was echoed by Matthew Lewis, ASUC housing commissioner, who stated that while he disagrees with the College Republicans, he fears the reallocation would result in a lawsuit.

“Before I speak I just want to acknowledge that people have feelings about wanting to defund BCR are very valid; they are a terrible organization,” said Lewis. “What will happen inevitably in court is not only will the courts order be for the ASUC to fund BCR, they’ll probably also order the ASUC to fund BCR at a higher amount, which would mean cuts to other student groups who actually deserve the money.”

‘because the BCRs “have violated a lot of, like, lead center rules during like free speech week,”’

You call that reasoning? Not even a good try. Just a vague accusation. A pretext, so devoid of content that it doesn’t even rise to the level of cheap rationalization.

I think this makes 2 things clear.

First no one who uses “like” in such a way is actually intelligent enough to be given more power than possibly a grocery list….and at that a short one.

Second, it is sadly time for universities to remove any and all power from student governments, since it is obvious from actions of student governments across the country that they kids are not mature enough to be trusted with a potato gun.

And the very idea of a BLACK student union somehow doesn’t violate the Civil Rights Act?

These affirmative action students are incapable of adult thinking. The fact they were elected shows that the apathy my college had for student office has not changed in decades. So the losers get in.

I sure hope someone is videotaping this. Liberals are at their best when the emotional parts of the brain are running on all 8 cylinders and the logical parts are in hibernation mode.

I like how they at least address legal issues, but seem to have checked their ethical issues at the door.

The very creme of our putative flagship.

Their rhetoric and intentions indistinguishable from that of tribalist agitators in any of your better equatorial backwaters. Except these walking stains haven’t yet mustered the courage to just necklace their domestic political opponents and have done with it. Maybe rule by coarse, ignorant thugs is the natural political state of mankind.

Don’t hire UC grads. There’s no reliable way to vet them.

By the way, WTF is a “lead center rule?” is that some kind of neo-Maoist Newspeak? phrase?
