The CDC has issued an E. coli warning about all romaine lettuce from the Yuma, Arizona area. The warning includes all romaine lettuce, hearts, and salad mixes containing romaine. While the warnings focus on store-bought romaine lettuce, the warning does extend to all restaurants, as well.
The CDC warning, due to an outbreak of E. coli linked to romaine lettuce, has been expanded to include all forms of romaine, including whole heads and hearts of romaine grown in the Yuma, Arizona, growing area. If you cannot confirm where it was grown, do not eat it.The following information from the CDC website indicates that consumers should not “buy or eat romaine lettuce at a grocery store or restaurant unless you can confirm it is not from the Yuma, Arizona, growing region.”. . . . Product labels often do not identify growing regions; so, throw out any romaine lettuce if you’re uncertain about where it was grown. This includes whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, and salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce. If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine, do not eat it and throw it away.
