Media Incorrectly Parrots “March For Our Lives” Organizers’ Crowd Estimate
They’re off by about 600,000
After anticipating a crowd of 500k, March for Our Lives organizers reported attendance estimated at between 800,000 and 850,000 thousand. The media gobbled this up and headlines splashed with variations on “Largest crowd EVAH” flooded the internet.
The problem? The real estimate, provided by an independent company, is 200,000, give or take two or three thousand.
More than 200,000 people attended the March for Our Lives demonstration in Washington D.C. on Saturday, according to Digital Design & Imaging Service Inc (DDIS). The Virginia-based firm uses a proprietary method for calculating crowd size using aerial photos.
The peak crowd size was 202,796 people, with a margin of error of 15 percent, the firm said. The crowd reached its largest size at 1 p.m., according to the company’s estimates.
The organizers put the total number of attendees at closer to 800,000. The largest single-day demonstration in U.S. history was the 2017 Women’s March, with a crowd size of 440,000 people, according to DDIS’ estimates.
That didn’t stop many media outlets from hyping the organizers’ much higher estimate.

The march’s organizers issued a press release hailing their march: “‘March For Our Lives’ Rally In Washington, D.C. Said To Be Largest Ever In Capital’s History.”
Exceeding expectations, a huge throng of peaceful but passionate demonstrators filled the streets around the U.S. Capitol for today’s March For Our Lives in Washington, D.C. Addressed by teenage speakers from around the country who have been affected by gun violence, attendees rallied to demand legislative action.
While Washington, D.C. authorities have yet to give an official estimate, reports published by major news organizations put the crowd size at 850,000 people, which would make it the largest demonstration in the capital’s history.
The reports published by major news organizations touting this figure (or the 800k figure) all cite March for Our Lives as the source of the estimate.
USA Today’s headline blares: “March for Our Lives could be the biggest single-day protest in D.C.’s history.” The article, however, cites the march’s organizers.

The Sun Sentinel notes its source right in the headline: “About 800,000 converged on Washington, D.C., for March for Our Lives rally, organizers say.”
Teen Vogue does the same: “March for Our Lives Organizers Estimate 800,000 People Attended the D.C. Rally.”
To be fair, both CBS (quoted above) and the Hill have reported the accurate numbers.

Washington, D.C., metropolitan police have yet to release their own estimates.
The respected imaging firm uses balloons to fly cameras over events in order to estimate crowd size. The service said there was a margin of error of 15 percent for their estimation. The crowd size was largest at 1 p.m., the company said.
It is clear that the march was attended by an impressive number of people.

It is also clear why the march’s organizers would want to inflate the numbers. Every march’s organizers seem to do this going back to the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan‘s 1995 “Million Man March.”
What is not clear is why some media outlets feel the need to inflate the actual (and again, impressive) numbers and tout it as (possibly) the “Largest crowd EVAH.”

If the school “resource officer” at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High hadn’t been a coward, he would have ended this shooting spree in the first 60 seconds. Instead, he decided that his cushy payments and personal safety was worth more than the lives of the 18 people that died because he did not act (his BS disproved reason given for not going in notwithstanding).

The absolute best thing Trump could do right now is Tweet that 800k is the accurate number, and he’s so proud that so many young people took place in this demonstration.

What we knew before this “march” got underway.
(1) The social media, the mass media, the entertainment media, the international media would all widely inflate the interest in it, the crowd approval and good-people-agree approval of it, and the size of it. (And on the size it is surprising that that quad-boosted numbers of eight hundred thousand are BELOW a million. Perhaps real-time reporting truth via smart phone and imaging technology are wilting the crown amplification factor that can be employed.)
(2) Heroes would be made, out of puffery!
(3) Piles of rubbish would be left behind. No effort by the marchers or clean up after themselves.
(4) The March would be headlines for days and weeks (oops … one Stormy Daniel tornado approaches to wipe the headlines clean. Bad timing for them. Ha ha ha!)
We also knew that these students almost immediately were contacted by the leftist-social justice activist groups to “help” them “organize” – as in, they did it all, got the busses going, etc. All the kids had to do was rehearse the speeches they “helped” them “craft.”

We have a very large extended family in a rural/suburban area and we are about as Conservative as you can get.
A niece who is a HS Student and a very bright girl organized one of those 17 minute marches a while ago and got some level of notoriety although the family thought she may have gone momentarily brain dead.
I have not heard if she has gone Hogg Wild yet – she is a smart girl and I would think not.

I have seen several interviews with these zombies and none of them could discuss the merits of any kind of gun control or describe what they were actually protesting. None had any idea what an “Assualt” weapon was, one kid said anything that will kill more than one person! Most are out for the fun of the march and the word US Constitution has not been mentioned. Nor has the reason why teens are not allowed to vote or buy alcohol. Most are barely able to drive at 16 yet their voice is supposed to be heard over our founding father’s voices. And of course, the Dems are playing these kids like a cheap fiddle.

Those were the “easy” gets if you could fake a little sincerity for a few days. Being “down with the movement” meant some private time in the tent. Not that I would know first-hand from the Vietnam era, but I knew enough of them in the late-90s.
I was a young man during the hippy days, a time when spraying things was more popular than washing them. The good news was that most did not object to starting in a shower or stream. One lesson from that time was that there is no such thing as free sex, it turns out to be at least a twenty year mortgage if you handle the outcome responsibly (children).

The other thing they fail to note is that not everyone going to these are for the proposed protests. There are frequently nearly the same number of counter protestors, yet they get lumped in with the numbers as if in agreement with it.

I have so much trouble remembering it, because it was such a FAILURE, and made no impact on anyone. These anti-gun marches will have even less effect as part of the #Resistance, because they’ll be forgotten before the next major national event.
Yellow is generally associated with Asians, and Asians have an average six point higher IQ than Caucasians, meanwhile the least accomplished group in America suffers a 15 point deficit. I disagree, it’s completely clear: they are propaganda organs, and the truth doesn’t matter to them.
Having been at a few large pro-gun demonstrations, and having heard (from the PIOs’ mouths) the official police estimate of the crowd size, and then having seen that estimate (reported to the news organization on-scene) halved, this does not surprise me.
BTW, as a birder, and a fair estimator of flock sizes in the field, my on-the-ground estimates of the crowd sizes were surprisingly close to those of the police. So obviously I trusted their estimations.
These “children” are just another unrelated sub-set of the Democratic Party, being told falsely how important they are and that their home should be in the Democratic Party. It’s why Leftists want to protect criminal illegal aliens, protect radical Muslims here and abroad, and to support the total and absolute right to murder a child in utero. Might want to put that round back in the chamber. Redstate covered this, but issued a correction, showing how CBS had muffed the quote, out of context. The new story is that Hogg was at the school when the shooting occurred, left on evacuation, but returned hours later with camera to do interviews. Impossible to say which story is true, or if either are true.
