UNC Profs Say They’ll Destroy Confederate Monument if it’s Not Taken Down

“We do not fear arrest”

We have come to expect this sort of behavior from left wing students. Shouldn’t professors be above it?

The Daily Caller reports:

UNC Profs Threaten To Destroy Confederate Monument Unless It’s Taken Down

Professors at the University of North Carolina are threatening to destroy a Confederate monument if it is not taken down before Thursday, according to a Sunday report.

Seventeen senior UNC Chapel Hill faculty members demand the university take down a “Silent Sam” statue before Thursday, or else they will tear it down themselves, reported The Daily Tar Heel.

“We do not fear arrest, indeed we welcome the opportunity to demonstrate the commitment that the Carolina faculty has to the wellbeing of its students and the principles that make this university great,” the professors wrote in a letter to the school’s chancellor.

The faculty members told The Daily Tar Heel they want to stay anonymous, but reportedly hail from UNC’s arts and sciences, law, medicine, and public health schools.

“We believe the Confederate monument (Silent Sam) must be immediately moved to an appropriate setting that contextualizes and teaches the history of white supremacy, rather than glorifies it,” wrote the professors.

I demand that the word “South” be immediately removed from “South Carolina”. Future generations then will not be exposed to the hideous fact that the state was part of the Confederacy. In fact, let’s remove all references to “the South”. We’ll just call the region “Northeast Mexico”.

Secession. It was the right thing then, it is the right thing now.

They may not be afraid of arrest, but tell them they’ll be prosecuted as well, and upon conviction they’ll be fired. Committing a crime cancels tenure, doesn’t it?

A kick in the pants might not jolt them too much (SJW martyr badge of honor), but whacking the wallet just might stimulate a synapse or two.

They won’t begin to believe it until the first one is actually prosecuted. When the second one is prosecuted they’ll be out there protecting these “offensive” historical monuments themselves!

Actually I don’t think you even need to go as far as arrest, surely willful destruction of property is grounds for termination.

Take away their tenure and they will wee wee away.

Unfortunately, I doubt they would get arrested for it.

“We do not fear arrest”

I reckon y’all will if you’re bunking with a large tattooed guy named “Bubba” and he takes a real liking to you.

@Profs OK … fair enough … put your actions where your mouth is. Get yourselves arrested … set off a chain of events that can play hell with your life and cost you your job. Go ahead … make our day.

The people arrested for tearing down a statue in Durham had their cases thrown out.
I’m not sure UNC Chancellor Folt would have the guts to fire these profs (unless it’s already written in stone somewhere). However, the Board of Governors might as they have enacted a free speech policy which allows for firing of profs and expulsion of students who interfere with free speech or who are disruptive of it. https://www.carolinajournal.com/news-article/unc-board-of-governors-approves-free-speech-policy/
I’m sure these guys would try to turn it around on itself though.
