Deep State Desperation

I appeared recently on The Dangerous Thinkers Podcast with Teri O’Brien.

We covered a number of topics, but the launching point was my October 12, 2017, 9th Anniversary post, Legal Insurrection is 9 years old, and filled with dread:

Last year I noted that while it was a difficult year personally, I was optimistic. That’s been one of my roles over the years, keeping hope alive. But there’s no pep talk this year. Just dread….I don’t know if there are any uncorrupted institutions left that matter….So I’m thinking through what it will mean to live without institutions.Sorry to be a downer on our blog birthday. I’ve always tried to be honest with you, and honestly, this blog birthday I’m filled with dread, not good cheer.

That post, focusing on the loss of institutions, had an effect on many people, including Teri, who commented near the beginning of the show:

…. I have to tell you guys in the audience, it’s very much of a bring down, because it starts out, here’s how you start out professor, and it’s a miracle I kept reading because I like wanted to stick a fork in my face at that point ….

Why did she want to stick a fork in her face, and did she?

Well, you’ll have to listen to the podcast to find out! [Don’t try that at home, please.]

We then talk about the efforts to unseat and freeze Trump in the context of the Michael Flynn plea, the Special Counsel, the attempt to undermine the Electoral College, Obama’s history of questionable political behavior before and in office, the unprecedented political activism of current journalists, the threat to free speech on campuses (including my Vassar appearance), “radicalized” social justice warriors, and the one glimmer of hope, taking back the judiciary.

So we covered a lot of topics.

Here are Teri’s Show Notes (not a transcript):

The behavior of Donald Trump’s opponents, and the lengths to which they will go, including personally attacking the electors by publishing their phone numbers and addresses to try to intimidate them, is unprecedented. Are we headed to an America in which all the institutions that served the preservation of our country (the media, academia) have been effectively destroyed? What then? While not quite a dictator, Barack Obama did usher in an era of lawlessness, which shouldn’t be a surprise, since he is a cut throat politician who rose to power through ruthless tactics to take out any opposition. We are facing a time when nearly every institution in our society has been destroyed: the media, academia, and the culture. Yet there may be one institution that we can still recapture. In sheer numbers, what opportunity does President Trump have to undo the damage that Barack Obama did to the federal courts?Radical leftists are terrorizing students on college campuses. Even though these “social justice warriors” comprise only about 10-15% of the student body, they are able to silence and terrify anyone who asserts a contrary opinion, such as supporting freedom of speech. What needs to happen for Teri and Prof. Jacobson to have the on-line champagne party that they discussed during the show?

Here is the podcast, the discussion starts at about the 2:15 mark (click here if player doesn’t load):
