Drexel Puts Tenured ‘White Genocide’ Prof On Leave After He Blamed Vegas Massacre On White People
Drexel University put a tenured professor on leave after he blamed the Las Vegas massacre on white people, the professor revealed Tuesday.
George Ciccariello-Maher, a tenured politics professor at Drexel, announced the university had placed him on administrative leave, following comments on the Las Vegas massacre, in an op-ed for The Washington Post
“It’s the white supremacist patriarchy, stupid,” the professor tweeted, rationalizing the massacre’s occurrence. “But liberals will drown out all discourse with a deafening chorus screeching ‘gun control.’”..
The professor said that he asked his students about the relationship between massacres and white masculinity after the Las Vegas attack and alleged that Drexel, by placing him on leave, was depriving them of academic freedom, in his WaPo op-ed.
“By bowing to pressure from racist internet trolls, Drexel has sent the wrong signal: That you can control a university’s curriculum with anonymous threats of violence,” said the professor. He suggested that he may be pursuing legal action.
“Due to a growing number of threats directed at Professor George Ciccariello-Maher, and increased concerns about both his safety and the safety of Drexel’s community, after careful consideration the University has decided to place Professor Ciccariello-Maher on administrative leave,” said Niki Gianakaris, Drexel’s executive director for media relations. “We believe this is a necessary step to ensure the safety of our campus.”
