Former Vice President Al Gore managed to stay in the limelight with his climate change crusade after he failed to beat former President George W. Bush in 2000. In 2007, his movie An Inconvenient Truth won an Oscar and Gore won an Noble Peace Prize.
Gore decided to make a sequel, An Inconvenient Truth: Truth to Power, but it bombed big time this weekend. It finished 15th and only took in $900,000.

The film has received generally positively among critics, earning a 77 percent favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an aggregate review website for movies and television. Audiences only gave it a 48 percent favorable rating on the same site, however.Gore has done dozens of interviews to promote the movie over the past three weeks, including appearances on national programs like “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, “NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt and “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah.
But the fame must have gone to Gore’s head because viewers have called it a “vanity project.”
At The Daily Caller, Tim Pearce described it as a “tribute to Al Gore.” Pearce wrote that the movie covers big successes in the climate change fight, but shows “Gore as the central motivator in every event.” He also brags about “his fight to launch the climate monitoring satellite DSCOVR.”
Pearce continued:
The movie depicts Gore educating thousands on the most effective ways of performing climate activism at his “Climate Reality Leader Training” sessions. Gore speaks to crowds about the scientific backing of climate change. He also doubles down on false claims he made during his first movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” such as severe weather becoming more and more common.The climax of the film is the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, or COP21, where the Paris agreement on climate change was negotiated and passed. Gore saves the conference and the accord by negotiating an agreement between Solar City, an American solar company, and India. Gore calls Solar City executives and convinces them to be the “heroes” of the conference by providing India, who wants to take advantage of cheap natural gas to propel their economy, with new solar technology in exchange for their participation in the Paris agreement.
