Petty: Chris Matthews complains Jared Kushner has car and driver

Is there anything—anything!—about which the MSM won’t criticize the Trump administration?

Q. Is there anything—anything!—about which the MSM won’t criticize about the Trump administration? A. No, judging by the mind-bogglingly minuscule, absurd and hypocritical thing that Chris Matthews has found to carp about.

On his Hardball show of May 30th, Matthews got bent out of shape over the fact that Jared Kushner . . . might have a car and driver take him to work at the White House. After video rolled of Kushner emerging from what is presumably his DC home and getting into an SUV with someone at the wheel, a vexed Matthews said:

Does Kushner have a driver and a car? How does that work? He works in the White House as one of the staffers. Does he get a car and a driver? It looks like some sort of SUV that takes him to work . . . This is pretty high-level stuff here. It looks like he’s some sort of major security official.”

Kushner is a government employee whose official title is “senior adviser to the President.” Guess who held the same position in the Obama administration? Yup: Valerie Jarrett. Jarrett famously received a Secret Service detail and was driven to work by government drivers. Can you remember Chris carping about that? Neither can I.

At the end of his outburst, Matthew said, “anyway, small point.” Right. But not too small for Chris to kvetch about.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I’m impressed by something I just saw. Does Kushner have a driver and a car? How does that work? He works in the White House as one of the staffers. Does he get a car and a driver? It looks like some sort of SUV that takes him to work. Do we know about that?

REPORTER: I’m not aware of that.

MATTHEWS: Adam? I’m watching it right here in front of me. This is pretty high-level stuff here. It looks like he’s some sort of major security official. Anyway, small point.

Matthews do “work?” What a concept.

Matthews can just go stuff himself again – maybe with Obama again…

If he’s working more than one shift a day (at least on call), I don’t have a problem with it. In such case, it’s obvious his time should be valued at a premium. If he can work in the back seat, even better. All the more so, if his chauffeur doubles as security detail.

Well, damit! Now I can’t decide. Is this a bigger scandal than President Trump getting two scoops of ice cream while everyone else gets one, or not?

This could ruin my whole evening.

Or worse yet, what if the MSM accuses President Trump of eating those two scoops while riding in Kushner’s own bought and paid for car?

Oh Horrors! The World is coming to an end! (per the Maligning Snotty Manure – MSM – spreaders.

I just hope that I’ll be able to sleep eventually. This is really worrisome! LOL!

Surprise! I didn’t have a bit of trouble getting my 8 hours. I thought that something this big would keep me awake for weeks.

Anonamom in reply to rinardman. | June 1, 2017 at 9:15 am

I know, right? This is just too much thinking for me. I’m so glad that we have such smart media people to do all the hard thinking and stuff.

Yup, he has a car and a driver, and he probably works while he is in the car. A lot of rich people do that.

    This. Times 10,000.

I’m to the point where if I had just a little more business in my law practice that ~I~ might have to hire a driver and customize the passenger-seat of my car into a work-space so I can have the extra hours in the day that I otherwise spend bouncing between County Courthouses to write.

Converting that extra 6 to 8 hours a week from me driving at a nominal rate to being able to bill my billable rate would generate enough to pay for the employee if my customers are steady, and then I have his use doing other tasks while I’m in Court.

I can only IMAGINE what Kushner’s effective billable rate is (regardless of what he is actually getting paid, what is WORTH is to the President). Someone who is close enough inside, can be given general and/or vague instructions, and be trusted to accomplish your goals without putting any personal spin on them? PRICELESS.

ValJar had a SS crew and was driven around. He’s a Trump family member and a REAL target

Didn’t he live in NYC ? If so he probably doesn’t have a DL

“Small point” from a small man.

I don’t see Jared complaining that Chrissy has a vagina even when he acts like a junior high girl.

Dumb Question
If Jared Kushner was looking for a ‘back channel’ AFTER the election, doesn’t that mean that there was no contact BEFORE the election (i.e. no collusion)?

The odious and ugly Valerie Jarrett also received the same treatment (car and driver). It’s standard for senior presidential advisors. Where was Matthews’ umbrage when St. Obama was in office?

What a transparently hypocritical, infantile twit.

I hear Jared Kushner has one of those UNLIMITED phone plans!
Elitist bastard!

Matthews earned the title of blowhard long, long ago.

Do not attribute complex motives to what can be explained by laziness.

MSM celebrities simply wait for the talking points. No work, no risk.

Newsflash: Media attacks Trump for defending himself against media attacks!

(I’m actually expecting this someday soon)

Before the Internet, I might have had to wait nearly a day to hear about this sort of earthshaking event. Or at least until the 6 o’clock or 11 o’clock news. Now, I get to not worry about it much sooner.

“Use what language you will, you can never say anything but what you are.”

Matthews is only telling us again who Matthews is. As a leftist, he applies pettiness to his enemies and blindness to his fellow leftists. He displays the character he is. He can do no more.

Obama and family and staff burned millions of dollars for VACATIONS not just on a car and a driver.

“Millions” just for many a single trip.

I’m sure it adds up to several BILLIONS over Obama’s 8 years of dictatorship.

To be truthful, nepotism sucks no matter who is doing it…

I have little doubt that before he came to D.C., Kushner was driven most everywhere. That is what rich people do. There was a big thing that Crooked Hillary had not driven a car in, what, 25 years now. I doubt that Trump has driven anything except a golf cart in that time either (though in his defense, that was his money paying for car and driver, and not ours, as with Clinton).

kenoshamarge | June 1, 2017 at 11:17 am

No surprise here. This is about the usual “quality” of reporting from Tweety Matthews.

Poor little thing went from having a thrill up his leg to a pain in his gluteus maximus.

Bruce Hayden | June 1, 2017 at 11:24 am

A friend of mine, who lives and works in DC (as a lobbyist), commented that one of the big things that he noticed when Obama took over from GW Bush was that the number of (mostly black) SUVs seemingly everywhere downtown, often double parked, seemed to have exploded. If you are going to be driving yourself through downtown DC in the middle of the day, you aren’t going to be driving a Suburban. Ever try to park one of those things? (I had one, and currently drive a Tahoe, which is a shortened Suburban. Wouldn’t want to drive either one in downtown D.C.). My guess is that most of them are part of security details.

This is a long way of saying that Matthews is a pretty blatant hypocrite, complaining about a top White House aide having a driver and probably security detail – esp when the rest of his family likely has Secret Service protection, when numerous Obama flunkies, much less important, had similar perks.

Which brings up another point – I would suggest that the Kushners are probably the most vulnerable members of the Trump family. They are, by far these days the most visible, and the most closely identified with Trump himself. There they were, prominently, on Trump’s recent foreign trip. There Jered was at Trump’s shoulder at the Western Wall, with his wife, Ivanka, and step mother-in-law Melania in the background. Etc. With the craziness right now on the left, I would suggest that the Kushners, thanks to their high visibility, need round the clock protection more than probably anyone else in the Administration, who isn’t living in the White House.
