Gender identity questions nixed from Census 2020 form

The election of President Donald Trump continues to have a profound influence on this country in nearly every area of government.

The upcoming census of the American people is a good example of a Trump-era change that is going mostly unnoticed.

In 2012, Legal Insurrection reported that the Obama administration was proposing sexual orientation/gender identity questions for the 2020 census.  Such questions have never been included in any U. S. Census.

Fast-forward to 2017, and the Trump’s administration’s alternative approach to counting the American population.

All queries into gender-identity have been removed from the 2020 survey:

No previous U.S. Census has ever included LGBTQ Americans, which makes it challenging for federal agencies and researchers to accurately track the size, demographics and needs of the community. In addition, the more detailed American Community Survey also leaves out LGBTQ categories. Tuesday’s initial release from the Census Bureau proposed including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people on both surveys.Advocacy groups have been campaigning for years to include questions about sexual orientation and gender identity, and were briefly elated when the 2020 Census draft was released. But hopes were dashed when the proposed addition suddenly disappeared, and a statement was issued by the Census bureau that called the LGBTQ inclusion a mistake.”The Subjects Planned for the 2020 Census and American Community Survey report released today inadvertently listed sexual orientation and gender identity as a proposed topic in the appendix,” the U.S. Census Bureau said in a statement to NBC News. “This topic is not being proposed to Congress for the 2020 Census or American Community Survey. The report has been corrected.”

The usual groups are outrageously outraged.

Meghan Maury, criminal and economic justice project director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, spoke more forcefully: “Today, the Trump administration has taken yet another step to deny LGBTQ people freedom, justice, and equity, by choosing to exclude us from the 2020 Census…”She also noted that federal agencies “can’t make the right choices about how to allocate […] resources if they don’t have a sense of what the LGBTQ community looks like.”

Of course, the “allocation of resources” is merely another way to say “spending of taxpayer dollars.”  I suspect most Americans would rather their tax dollars be spent for the benefit of all Americans, or not spent at all, remaining in their own pockets.

The Obama administration spent eight years dividing Americans. Trump’s people have no interest in creating subsets of human beings.

That the Trump Administration wants to take a census more in the manner that the founders intended is one of the best bits of news to make the mainstream media recently, despite the fact the press muddles the story with excessive gender-identity drama.
