Violence Breaks Out Between Pro- and Anti-Trump Camps in Berkeley

People marched in cities across the country Saturday to show support for President Trump. In a few places, anti-Trump protesters showed up and in Berkeley there was violence.

The Reuters report below plays coy about who initiated the violence, but Trump supporters didn’t show up to make trouble during the Women’s March. Violence like this is the domain of the left:

In day of pro-Trump rallies, California march turns violentSupporters of Donald Trump clashed with counter-protesters at a rally in the famously left-leaning city of Berkeley, California, on a day of mostly peaceful gatherings in support of the U.S. president across the country. At a park in Berkeley, across the bay from San Francisco, protesters from both sides struck one another over the head with wooden sticks and Trump supporters fired pepper spray as police in riot gear stood at a distance. Some in the pro-Trump crowd, holding American flags, faced off against black-clad opponents. An elderly Trump supporter was struck in the head and kicked on the ground.Organizers of the so-called Spirit of America rallies in at least 28 the country’s 50 states had said they expected smaller turn-outs than the huge crowds of anti-Trump protesters that clogged the streets of Washington and other cities the day after the Republican’s inauguration on Jan. 20.”There are a lot of angry groups protesting and we thought it was important to show our support,” said Peter Boykin, president of Gays for Trump, who helped organize Saturday’s rally in Washington.

According to the East Bay Times, it looks like the arrests made were mainly anti-Trump people:

A pro-Trump rally in downtown Berkeley on Saturday afternoon was marked by violence:6 p.m.: Berkeley police say seven people were evaluated for medical injuries, but none needed nor wanted to go to the hospital. A total of 10 people were arrested, including five for battery, four for assault with a deadly weapon (including one with possession of a dagger) and one for resisting arrest. Police reported items confiscated among the combatants were: “metal pipes, bats, 2x4s and pieces of wood. A group with bricks was detained, and their bricks confiscated.”5:15 p.m.: Three more people have been arrested, two men and a woman who were anti-Trump protesters, but police did not release any other details. The crowd has dwindled to about 50 people, and Rich Black, a pro-Trump rally organizer, tweeted to followers “To those still in attendance at the March please disperse and leave. The Police betrayed us.”

As you’ll see in this video report from CBS News in San Francisco, many of the anti-Trump folks were the same violent black-clad goons who always show up to start trouble.

Twitchy has compiled some tweets with disturbing images from the scene:

Let California secede. Maybe they’ll take these progressive fascists with them.
