Trump says Obama wiretapped his campaign, Joy Reid laughs it off

What’s the proper response to allegations that the administration of a President of the United States wiretapped the campaign of the candidate of the opposing party? Why, laughter, of course . . . if you’re Joy Reid and her merry band of liberals. On her show this morning, mirth was repeatedly on the menu during a segment regarding the allegation that the FBI, under President Obama, wiretapped members of the Trump campaign in the month leading up to the election.

Interviewing a Dem congressman, Reid chortled as she asked “does it disturb you a little bit that the President of the United States doesn’t know that the President of the United States doesn’t order wiretaps?” Right. It’s the FBI. A part of the executive branch whose head is . . . the President of the United States.

And when Reid heard another guest laughing, she turned to him: “because you’re laughing, I have to turn to you. It is sort of funny, but it is sort of disturbing, as well.”

Reid couldn’t help but raise the issue in the next segment, about The Apprentice. Reid was unable to suppress a laugh as she spoke of Trump “accusing the former President of the United States of wire-tapping.”

Note: the Breitbart article that Reid dismissed as “conspiracy theories” contained the allegation that, under President Obama, the FBI twice sought FISA-court approval to wiretap the Trump campaign. The same allegations appear in this National Review column and this Guardian article.

Note segundo: in a supremely absurd and illogical statement, Reid says “Barack Obama is not President of the United States. How could he have a coup against Donald Trump?” Um, Ms. Reid: the very notion of a coup is that people out of power mount them against people who are in power.  Is your theory that coups can only be mounted by sitting presidents? Who would they mount them against—themselves?

JOY REID: Does it disturb you a little bit that the President of the United States doesn’t know that the President of the United States [chortles] doesn’t order wiretaps?REP. ERIC SWALWELL: It surprises me, but it doesn’t surprise me that 30 minutes later, he was tweeting about The Apprentice.REID: He did tweet about Arnold: we’re going to get to that, too. Because you’re laughing, I have to turn to you. It is sort of funny, but is it sort of disturbing as well. Donald Trump got up really early this morning to retweet what appears to be conspiracy theories that he may have gotten from Breitbart.com,. . .And it’s a story that is titled, Mark Levin, who I believe is the same radio host, “Mark Levin to Congress: investiage Obama’s ‘silent coup vs. Trump.” Barack Obama is not President of the United States? How could he have a coup against Donald Trump?NAVEED JAMALI: I don’t even know how to respond to this. This is so crazy, that all I can say, Joy, is we have to keep our eye on the Russian question. That’s it! The rest of it is just distractions.REID: You’re absolutely right.. . .REID: So this is weird. Donald Trump, this morning in his tweet storm, when he wasn’t accusing the former President of the United States of wiretapping [tries to suppress laugh] Trump Tower [chortles], was attacking Arnold Schwarzenegger.
