“That is the price you pay for being a Libertarian or Conservative on American college campuses”

Let’s be clear. What happened at UC Berkeley on Wednesday night has nothing to do with Milo Yiannopoulos. It is part of a much larger problem on American college campuses which has been brewing for years.

Left wing radicals, some of whom even have criminal pasts, are frequently welcome to speak on college campuses. Conservatives are not and are often shouted down if not protested.

Milo Yiannopoulos happened to be at ground zero of a riot which received national media attention. If he’s done nothing else, we should thank him for shining a light on this issue which has been ignored for far too long.

Milo sat down with Tucker Carlson to discuss the events at Berkeley and made some valid points. He suggested that the fury of the left has been stoked by the media. Tucker reinforced his argument by pointing out the spin used by CNN and other liberal outlets in their coverage.

Tucker read this CNN headline out loud:

Does that sound like a fair assessment of the situation to you?

Tucker also read this New York Times headline aloud:

“Berkeley Cancels Milo Yiannopoulos Speech, and Donald Trump Tweets Outrage”

No mention of the violence, the destruction or the compromise of free speech in higher education.

Here are more details on the interview from the FOX News Insider:

‘This Is Political Violence’: Milo Talks to Tucker About Fiery Berkeley RiotsYiannopoulos, a Breitbart News editor, said he was preparing for his speech on the campus Wednesday night when the ground floor of the building was stormed by protesters, violence broke out, and he was evacuated by his security detail.”That is the price you pay for being a libertarian or a conservative on American college campuses,” Yiannopoulos said.He argued that the mainstream media helped create this environment on college campuses by labeling ordinary conservatives “white supremacists,” “anti-Semites,” “racists” and “sexists” when they’re not.”There’s an inevitable, obvious consequence to this,” Yiannopoulos said. “The media has created this environment in which it’s OK to say almost anything about somebody who is right of Jane Fonda.”He said that people should have to answer for this “political violence,” because it’s only going to get worse.”The establishment – the media, academic and entertainment establishment – has made certain sorts of political opinion – respectable, reasonable, mainstream opinion – impossible to express in public.”

You don’t have to like Milo Yiannopoulos or Breitbart to appreciate what this is all about. There is a free speech crisis happening in American higher education and this was just the latest example.

It’s unfolding at the same time that progressive politicians want American taxpayers to foot the bill for “free” college. No thanks.
