Teen Charged for Lying About Rape by College Football Players

None of it was true.

The back story here is awful. The students who were accused lost their scholarships and basically had their lives ruined.

The New York Post reports:

Teen charged with lying about being raped by college football players

Two college football players who were suspended from their team last year and saw their scholarships revoked after rape accusations have been cleared by police after authorities say their accuser recanted her story.

Nikki Yovino, 18, of South Setauket, NY, has been charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection to an incident at a Sacred Heart University football party in October, the Connecticut Post reports.

When pressed about inconsistencies in her original statement, Yovino admitted that she made up the rape allegations against the two football players in hopes of gaining sympathy from another man — a prospective boyfriend, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Police said Yovino told them on Oct. 15 at a hospital where they responded for a sexual assault complaint that she attended a Sacred Heart football club party the night before at a house on Lakeside Drive in Bridgeport.

Investigators said Yovino claimed two men pulled her into a bathroom in the basement of the house and held her down, taking turns sexually assaulting her, the Connecticut Post reports.

Sugar and spice and everything nice…

Making a knowingly false report of a crime should be punishable by the same penalty that would have been incurred should the accused have been found guilty.

Having a couple of these high profile cases end up with the false accuser spending 10 years or so in Prison might prove to be a deterrent for future cases.

In an ideal world that would be a good idea. The problem is that which rational accuser would admit to lying about their false claims if they would spend years in jail for admitting this?

What is much more important is that the accused innocents have their names cleared, restitution made, their convictions overturned and immediate release from jail if they have been imprisoned. I don’t see the threat of jail is going to matter to an accuser who makes a claim that will possibly imprison an innocent person for many years.

If this symmetrical law is pushed forward, feminist groups will also wage campaigns saying that a raped woman stands to be punished for being raped if their evidence is not strong enough.

      You’ve got it backwards.

By punishing false accusers severely, and having that threat, and making them plea bargain down, just like we do to rapists, we will continue to slap these vicious scumbags on the wrist.

By harshly punishing false accusers, we get less junk cases coming forward, then we get higher conviction rates for rape, more real victims come forward … rinse and repeat.

      Win win for everyone.

Yea, if there was any real justice she would have to face the same sentence one of those guys would have faced.
