Call for Congressional investigation into Obama admin role in anti-Israel UN Resolution

The Israelis say that they have “ironclad” information that the Obama administration pushed the anti-Israel UN Security Council resolution passed on December 23, to which the U.S. abstained. Some public evidence supporting the accusation was summarized in my post last night.

The Obama administration denials are very Clintonian, phrased in ways to deny accusations that have not been made. For example, denying that Obama officials “drafted” the resolution. No one is accusing the Obama administration of “drafting” the resolution, rather, the U.S. used its influence with others to have others draft the resolution along terms acceptable to Obama. The fact that Ben Rhodes, who openly bragged about misleading the public to get the Iran nuclear deal passed, is heading the Obama administration messaging on the UN Resolution; why would we expect that proven and admitted liar to tell the truth this time?

The American Jewish Congress is calling for a full congressional investigation:

The American Jewish Congress calls on the US Congress to immediately hold hearings probing the Obama administration’s decision not to veto the UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements, which passed on Friday.“There are serious questions that need to be asked of the Obama administration following UN Security Council Resolution 2334, with the US refusing to veto a one-sided, anti-Israel biased resolution that puts Israel in international legal jeopardy and takes the position that the Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem, including the Western Wall are no longer a part of Israel,” it says in a statement.“We urge the US Congress to investigate the actions taken by the Obama administration leading up to the vote. Such a seismic shift in America Foreign Policy in the transition period, must be fully reviewed and accounted for, specifically, Samantha Power and Ben Rhodes should explain the process which led to their actions, particularly in light of questions being raised,” it says.

Here is the AJC press release:

AMERICAN JEWISH CONGRESS URGES THE U.S. CONGRESS TO HOLD HEARINGSThe American Jewish Congress urges immediate congressional hearings following the change of U.S. policy that resulted in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on December 23, 2016.There are serious questions that need to be asked of the Obama administration following UN Security Council Resolution 2334, with the US refusing to veto a one-sided anti-Israel biased resolution that puts Israel in international legal jeopardy and takes the position that the Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem, including the Western Wall are no longer a part of Israel. We urge the US Congress to investigate the actions taken by the Obama administration leading up to the vote. Such a seismic shift in America Foreign Policy in the transition period, must be fully reviewed and accounted for, specifically, Samantha Power and Ben Rhodes should explain the process which led to their actions, particularly in light of questions being raised.Further, there are worrying reports circulating of additional harmful resolutions at the UNSC, and so we strongly believe that the American people deserve to be aware of the Obama Administration’s intentions and their change in policy towards the State of Israel.
