Greta Van Susteren Leaves Fox News, Says “Has Not Felt Like Home”
News comes the same day Fox settles with Gretchen Carlson for $20 million.
Greta Van Susteren suddenly left Fox News on Monday after 14 years.
Brit Hume will now host her show “On the Record” at the 7PM time slot starting on Tuesday and through the election. It is unknown if Fox News will change their schedule after the election.
Greta provided an explanation on her Facebook page:
From The Hill:
“As one of the best political analysts in the industry, Brit is the ideal choice to host a nightly political program while the most dynamic and captivating election in recent history unfolds,” Abernethy and Shine said in a joint statement.
“Having Brit at the helm of this show will enable FOX News to continue on track to have its highest-rated year even as the network dominates the cable news landscape.”
Hume, who serves as the network’s senior political analyst, said he was “honored” to be asked to take over the show.
“I am happy to take on this assignment for the balance of this extraordinary election,” he said in a statement.
“My FOX News colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold.”
The news comes on the same day that Vanity Fair reported that Fox News will settle with Gretchen Carlson for $20 million over her sexual harassment lawsuit against former CEO Roger Ailes. CNN Money reported that Van Susteren “had been seeking to renegotiate the terms of her contract” when Carlson’s allegations surfaced.

Greta leaving in the middle of a presidential election with no advance notice or warning?
Fox pays $20 million sexual harassment lawsuit to Carlson.
Fox management had better wake up! You are losing great people!
Remember when Carlson was a lying bitch according to a lot of you a few weeks ago…???
I toldja.
Hannity will be next …
then Trump will start Trump entertainment.
24 hour news and entertainment.
Ailes and Greta and Sean …
more to follow …
When I watch Fox News years ago it felt like doing charity. Sure, the only conservative outlet on cable, I will watch you.
They have some good journalists tacked in here and there, but their prime time line up is just awful. Who in the world watcher Bill O’Reily? What is his appeal???
Perhaps Greta felt it best to leave on her own terms before the Murdochs dumped her for not being on board with the Ailes trashing. She may have jumped before she lost her time slot in some reorganization.
I always thought she was one of the fairer talking heads at FOX.
Now would be an appropriate time to start the Howard Beale Show.
I think I read somewhere that the real reason Greta left Fox News after 14 years is because during the entire time she was at Fox, Roger Ailes didn’t proposition her once. Not a single time . . .
Yeah, sexually harassed Miss America gets $20 Million while ignored, short nonentity don’t get nuttin’. Sure doesn’t feel like “home.”
Why Greta Van Susteren is leaving Fox News so suddenly
A courier arrived at Van Susteren’s Washington, D.C. home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, hand-delivering two letters that said that Van Susteren “was being taken off the air” immediately, according to her husband, John Coale, who is a high-profile Washington lawyer.
Van Susteren was already planning to leave, but she thought she would be hosting her 7 p.m. program “On the Record” for a few more weeks.
Yanking her off the air without a chance to say goodbye was “a bit immature,” Coale remarked.

That tells us more “how” than “why”.
Two why questions:
1. WHY was Greta planning on leaving?
2. WHY was she let go?
I find “It didn’t feel like home” utterly inadequate.
Glad to have Brit back. Now if they would flush Geraldo…
