Last year, students at the University of Texas organized a “Cocks for Glocks” rally to protest the upcoming implementation of Texas “Campus Carry” laws.
We weren’t sure if it was a publicity stunt or a thing that would actually happen. Almost a year later and it’s a thing that actually happened.
Last October I blogged:
Longhorn alumna Jessica Jin plans to protest campus carry in a somewhat unconventional way — by organizing a “Campus (Dildo) Carry” protest at the University’s Austin campus. Jin graduated from the University of Texas last year with a degree in violin performance.Campus carry, a law that extends concealed carry privileges to license holders on university campuses, was signed into law by Texas Governor Abbott this year.Using the social media hashtag, #CocksNotGlocks, participants are encouraged to wield dildos to demonstrate the absurdity of campus carry.Yeah, we don’t get it either.
According to the Texas Tribune:
Students, alumni and spectators eagerly snatched up more than 4,500 donated dildos Tuesday evening at the University of Texas at Austin, preparing to assuage their frustration over a new state law allowing handguns to be carried on public university campuses.Cocks Not Glocks, a protest group formed last fall, is urging students and others to openly carry the sex toys around campus, offering a multicolored counterpoint to the concealed weapons that holders of handgun licenses can now legally carry inside UT classrooms and most buildings.“We want these dildos on backpacks as long as there are concealed handguns in backpacks,” said Ana López, a UT sophomore and one of the Cocks Not Glocks organizers.Tuesday night’s distribution — which featured dildo juggling and the sale of t-shirts with slogans such as “Take It and Come” — was a prelude to an anti-campus carry rally planned for Wednesday, the semester’s first full day of classes.“We want to make sure that students don’t just go home and take these [sex toys] as a joke,” López said.Austin stores and companies like Hustler Hollywood and HUM vibrators (known as “the first artificially intelligent vibrator”) donated the sex toys after hearing about Cocks Not Glocks, López said. The full supply was gone in about 23 minutes, a distribution rate of almost 200 per minute.
Event organizers were also selling t-shirts for $15 a pop to help benefit their group as well as University Democrats and Students Against Campus Carry.
“Anybody can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas. Come one dildo, come all dildos. “You’re carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO.” Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play!” reads Cocks for Glocks’ official website.
“Forget allowing licensed concealed carry holders to stop a crazed shooter, our dildos will protect us!”
I’d love to know how a dildo is just as effective in stopping a campus shooting as one well-placed bullet. Actually, now that I think of it, I don’t want to know.
What I am curious about — why do modern feminists insist on perpetual victimhood? Isn’t that, you know, the opposite of feminism?
You know what they say — never bring a dildo to a gun fight. Well, they don’t say that, but someone probably should.
