German Activist Lied About Rapists to Avoid Fueling Racism

German activist Selin Gören said she lied to the police about her attackers because she did not want racists to use her story as an excuse to keep out refugees.

The men attacked the spokeswoman for Linksjugend Solid, a left-wing German youth organization, at a playground late at night in Mannheim. She immediately called the police, but told them German speaking men robbed her.

Her boyfriend, though, became mad at Gören for lying and encouraged her to tell the truth.

In bed, she finally told him what actually happened to her. She said the news shocked him and he “wanted to comfort her, but was also shocked by the lie.” Before going back to the police, the two of them sought a “Safe Space” to talk about her rape. The people offered him different takes, but her boyfriend (yes the male!!!) talked some common sense into her:

What if the offender went to other women? Wasn’t a woman two weeks ago almost raped by the water water? This woman said the rapist looked like an Arab. Could it be the same?

She went back and told the police the truth.

But then they found out the woman in the water tower might have lied about her near rape. This fueled Gören to write a post that blasted “racist abuse victims” and googled crimes committed by white foreigners.

She eventually amended the post when the police said the woman did not have a racist background.

The experience, though, has moved Gören to encourage women “not to fear political correctness when reporting crimes.”

The group Active Together Against Sexual Violence (GESA) told The Daily Mail that many male migrants have committed sexual assaults:

‘The perpetrators often come from cultures with a different image of women’, said Steffi Burmester of GESA.’They are alone and looking to banish their humiliation of flight with confirmation of their masculinity. This is neither to apologise nor to accept their actions, it is how it is.’

On New Year’s Eve, the German police received over 1,000 sexual assault complaints. Men set off explosions at a train station in Cologne, causing people to run. The attackers took advantage and assaulted numerous women. The police said all 59 suspects came from Northern Africa and 15 have officially sought asylum in Germany.

This happens across the European Union. The Swedish police received over 40 reports of rape and sexual assault at two music festivals over the weekend. The police have identified seven suspects described as “foreign young men.” The victims are mostly under 18-years-old with three under 15. The youngest victim is only 12-years-old.
