Bernie Sanders supporters have been clinging to a hope that if the FBI recommended indictment for Hillary Clinton, there was a chance the Democratic Party would dump her and nominate Bernie instead.
That hope ended this week. Now that the FBI has let her off the hook, nothing will stop her nomination. Many Bernie supporters are disgusted and who could blame them?
CNN reports:
Sanders supporters melt down over FBI’s Clinton decisionIt’s not only Donald Trump and Republicans expressing their indignation at the FBI’s decision not to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton over her handling of classified materials on a private email server. The Tuesday announcement also set off a torrent of anger and frustration among some of Bernie Sanders’ most diehard supporters, a vocal minority who have been agitating for an indictment of the former secretary of state in the hopes it would vault the Vermont senator to the Democratic nomination.Trump and the Sanders bitter-enders had played up the possibility, pointing to what they called an “FBI convention” that would effectively block Clinton from becoming the nominee. But with FBI Director James Comey’s announcement likely closing that door, social media — including a couple high-profile Sanders backers — erupted:
Some of these people could end up voting for Trump. Probably not millions of them but some. This phenomenon is getting notice in some corners of the blogosphere.
Refinery 29 reports:
Why These Bernie Sanders Supporters Are Now Backing Donald TrumpDonald Trump and Bernie Sanders are on opposite sides of many issues dominating this year’s presidential race. But that hasn’t stopped some former Sanders supporters from pledging to support presumptive GOP nominee Trump in the general election.A Bloomberg Politics poll released last month found that while 55% of Sanders supporters plan to back presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in November, 22% now support Trump. In her final segment on The Daily Show, Jessica Williams attempted to make sense of the poll’s findings by speaking with a group of Sanders supporters.”It’s not going to Donald Trump, it’s going away from Hillary Clinton,” one Sanders-to-Trump supporter explained to Williams in the clip.As the focus group’s responses quickly revealed, it wasn’t that the Sanders supporters were drawn to Trump. In fact, many of them offered various insults about the presumptive GOP nominee during the clip. It turned out they just didn’t like Clinton.
To his credit, Trump has told them they’re welcome to join him:
We’ll see if any Bernie supporters actually take him up on it.
