Top Gun Star Embraces Concealed Carry After Home Invasion

Take my breath away…

Irving Kristol once famously described a conservative as a liberal who has been mugged by reality. In the case of film star Kelly McGillis, it was a home invasion which changed her mind about concealed carry.

Bearing Arms reports:

After Home Invasion, Kelly McGillis Is Going to Conceal Carry Her ‘Top Gun’

Actress Kelly McGillis exploded into the American consciousness in the 1980s with riveting roles as a young Amish widow and mother in Witness (1985), Tom Cruise’s love interest in Top Gun (1986), and as Jodie Foster’s attorney in The Accused (1988).

Last week she starred in a real-life horror show as a crazed woman broke into her home and waited for her in ambush, a terrorizing incident McGillis chronicled on her Facebook page.

I came home last night around 9:00 after attending a lecture by theologian Robin Meyers. The final conclusion of which was about loving others. ‘Every single other.’ When I arrived home on top of my mountain I notice the downstairs bathroom light was on (you can see it from the street). I didn’t recall leaving it on but I was in there before I left brushing my teeth so I thought maybe I’d left it on…

I was trying to get rid of the stuff in my hand to better assess what was going on when a stranger, a woman, came barreling down the hallway and began yelling at me. I asked her who she is and why she was in my house and she said ‘you know why you’ve been stalking me in Twitter.’

I thank you all for your warm thoughts and love. I’m still a bit shook up and struggling with some residual fear. I do have an alarm. I was complacent and didn’t set it after living here four years and having nothing happen. My bad. She broke my in the garage window and called through by stacking 10 bags of mulch. She threw dog food all
over the kitchen floor to distract the dogs. I have three. Honestly they seemed really freaked out by the whole thing. I have decided to get a conceal and carry permit. And you can be sure I will be setting the alarm from here on out.

Congratulations to Ms. McGillis for embracing her Second Amendment rights.

Meanwhile, in other parts of Hollywood, lefty celebrities are cheering for the Democrats who are trying to take away their gun rights:

Doesn’t that just take your breath away?

Risk management. The criminals do it. The 1% — or their bodyguards — do it. The politicians do it. Why not other other men and women, too?

Rights and responsibilities are the choice and they are not separable in a civilized society.

It is sad that it took a bad situation to convince her to go out and finally get a gun. I have been urging my sister to get her own gun for self-defense in case of such situations like those mentioned above.

A wise man once wrote that very wise people learn from others’ mistakes; she wasn’t very wise.

OTOH If she’s willing to learn from her own mistakes that’s not as good, but it ain’t nothin’ either.

“A conservative is a liberal who just got mugged robbed”

She’s lucky the situation wasn’t much worse. However, it should be said that guns rights are for everyone not just the famous or wealthy. Police are always going to do their best to protect someone like Kelly McGillis, the issue for her is that its difficult to keep someone who’s really obsessed from getting to you before the cops do. But if you’re a nobody with $800 in the bank and live in an area where police are spread too thin, have other priorities, or just aren’t effective, then having the right to bear arms and to use them in self defense (just as critical) may be the only way to ensure you and your family’s safety.

“When I arrived home on top of my mountain …”

She has her own mountain? And no gun?

What’s with the dogs? She should have been able to hear them in the next county. What are they, vegetarians?

“She threw dog food all over the kitchen floor to distract the dogs.”

Hard to bark with your mouth full….

People recently sent me videos of home breakins where the dogs, Labs, shepards, collies… literally try to play with the burglars.

I wonder if she still goes to Robin Meyers lectures?

If ever there was a reason to own a gun, not for hunting or sport, this YouTube video is the reason! Just imagine if this happened in your quiet little neighborhood where you have lived for many years with a police force of less than a hundred! I simply cannot imagine any political leader allowing something like this. Watch it and imagine this happening to your home.
