Hillary Clinton has been endorsed by the Michael Bloomberg affiliated group Everytown which claims she’s the only candidate who’s serious about the issue.
Gun control has never been a winner for Democrats at election time so it’s surprising that this is being touted as a win for her.
CNN reports:
Gun control group with Bloomberg ties endorses ClintonA major gun safety advocacy organization announced Friday it is endorsing Hillary Clinton for president.Everytown for Gun Safety president John Feinblatt said in a statement: “Gun Sense Voters have a champion in Hillary Clinton. Our litmus test is simple: does a candidate side with the public or with the gun lobby? Hillary Clinton passes that test with flying colors — pushing back against the NRA’s extreme ‘guns for everyone, everywhere’ agenda, and ushering in a new political calculus that saving lives from gun violence is a winning issue.”Richard Martinez, an outreach associate with the Everytown organization in California whose son was killed in a 2014 shooting near University of California-Santa Barbara, said in the statement that he will be voting for Clinton in the critical California primary on Tuesday “because she is the only candidate who fights for gun violence survivors and stands up to the extremist gun lobby.”Everytown for Gun Safety was launched in 2014 with a $50 million pledge from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an outspoken advocate of gun control laws, in response to the Sandy Hook shooting massacre. The organization describes itself as “a movement of Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities,” and says it works to pass ballot initiatives requiring criminal background checks on gun sales and “support candidates in federal and local races who support gun safety.”
Notice how they keep saying “gun safety” instead of gun control? That’s no accident.
Here’s a related video report from Newsy:
What CNN and Newsy leave out of their reports is that Hillary Clinton is the extremist on this issue. In October of last year, she said she was open to the idea of the Australian model of a gun buy-back program which essentially amounts to confiscation.
The Hill reported:
Hillary: Australia-style gun control ‘worth looking at’Hillary Clinton says a gun buyback program similar to the one Australia implemented in 1996 is “worth considering” in the United States.“I don’t know enough details to tell you how we would do it or how it would work, but certainly the Australia example is worth looking at,” Clinton said at a New Hampshire town hall on Friday. The Democratic presidential front-runner said data indicate the Australian program reduced the number of firearms in circulation by paying citizens to turn over their weapons.“The Australian government, as part of trying to clamp down on the availability of automatic weapons, offered a good price for buying hundreds of thousands of guns, and then they basically clamped down going forward in terms of having, you know, more of a background-check approach, more of a permitting approach,” Clinton said.
This video from the NRA puts things in perspective:
“We’re not coming for your guns” is the new “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan.”
