How bad and lacking in moral fiber must a Democrat be for Harry Reid to accuse him of having “no moral compass?” Alan Grayson bad.Grayson (D-FL)—who is perhaps best known for his over-the-top statements, unethical campaign ads, and alleged shady hedge fund dealings—is running for the Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio (R-FL).Reid, Senate minority leader, is less than enthusiastic about Grayson’s bid to leave the House and join the Senate. Back in February, the two men engaged in a remarkable cat fight . . . that Grayson just can’t let drop.In a rather stunning act of insanity, Grayson confronted Reid during a Congressional Progressive Caucus meeting Wednesday morning; he was waving Reid’s February statements and demanding an explanation.Politico reports:
Rep. Alan Grayson angrily confronted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday, disrupting a meeting of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in front of dozens of staffers and members of Congress.Grayson (D-Fla.), who Reid vehemently opposes in his bid for the open Florida Senate seat, arrived at the meeting with Reid’s February statement in hand, according to two sources in the room. In that statement, Reid said Grayson has “no moral compass” and “used his status as a congressman to unethically promote his Cayman Islands hedge funds.”He asked Reid if the Nevada senator knows who he is. After Reid answered in the affirmative, Grayson went on the attack.“Say my name, senator. Say my name,” Grayson told Reid as Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) tried to shut the confrontation down. Ellison chided Grayson, asking him what he was doing and why he was distracting from the meeting’s goals.Grayson responded by angrily waving a printout of Reid’s searing February quote that called on Grayson to drop out of the primary race against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.).
Who knows what Grayson expected, but Reid’s answer is priceless.
Politico continues:
“Why’d you say that?” Grayson said, insisting Reid’s statement was false.Reid calmly faced his inquisitor: “I want you to lose. It’s true.”
Grayson’s office responded with: “I have a low opinion of Reid’s low opinion.”
Reid’s office made a lengthier statement:
“Alan Grayson decided to be disruptive, to the embarrassment of his fellow colleagues. Senator Reid took the opportunity to express his low opinion of Congressman Grayson to his face and remind him that the reason Senator Reid has said that Grayson is under ethics investigation and appears to be running a Cayman Islands hedge fund from his Congressional office in order to line his own pockets is because these things are true, as established by seventy-four pages’ worth of evidence from the Congressional Ethics Committee,” said Kristen Orthman, a spokeswoman for Reid.
According to the Politico report of the incident, meetings with Reid are rare, so members of the Progressive Caucus were annoyed to have this meeting derailed. This lack of interaction with Reid and the Progressive Caucus might have caused Grayson’s belated outburst.
Following these antics, Grayson took to Twitter to defend his behavior.
Grayson replied to Reid’s slam on Twitter, painting Reid as a member of the “corrupt establishment:”
He then unleashed a tweet storm aiming to explain his confronting Reid:
Grayson’s goal, apparently, during this anti-establishment election cycle is to paint himself as the outsider, as Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have so effectively done, and to ride that tide to the Senate.
