Cornell Univ. Police Chief apologizes for saying #AllLivesMatter instead of #BlackLivesMatter

College Insurrection and others recently reported how the President of Smith College apologized to the student body for using the term “All Lives Matter” rather than “Black Lives Matter.”

A Cornell engineering student just tweeted to me about a similar statement from the Chief of the Cornell University Police, Kathy Zoner, in an all campus email.

I checked my own email, and sure enough, there it was:

That original message from the week before was:

“All Lives Matter” is disrespectful?

Seriously?

The first message was perfectly appropriate:

The tragedies we have experienced locally, and the important discussions about law enforcement and community relations we are engaged in locally and nationally, have me in a more somber mood this week. As a member of the Cornell community, a law enforcement officer and a mother, I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives, critical injuries and angry conflicts, both locally and nationally, among both people and nations…..We are here for each other, and you are an important piece of what makes us whole. All Lives Matter.

Doesn’t my life matter?
