#Ferguson protesters make Seattle kids cry

One of my favorite Christmas moments is when I watch “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” with my son.

This year, I didn’t have to pull out the DVD to review the story. Ferguson protesters captured its essence by surrounding  some children caroling for a Christmas tree lighting in Seattle and making them cry.

Demonstrators marched through holiday traffic, blocked intersections and shut down light rail service to Westlake station. Some protesters moved the demonstration to the edge of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, where they clashed with police officers. Both officers and demonstrators used pepper spray, police said. Some protesters wore gas masks.Later, the city’s traditional Christmas lighting ceremony at Westlake started early after protesters surrounded the area and began rallying. Police turned out in force, arresting five people and prompting the mall to close several hours early.Police said the arrests included people accused of assaulting officers and damaging an officer’s bicycle. After the tree lighting, the mayor and Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole visited with young carolers who were interrupted by protesters, the mayor’s office said.

The best coverage came from Twitter:

Josh Trujillo tweeted an image that gives a sense of the situation in Seattle.

I must admit, I didn’t realize the iconic blue city of Seattle was such a hotbed of racism!

More than 200 protesters, some chanting “Black Lives Matter!” tried to disrupt Black Friday shopping and downtown Seattle’s traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Police turned out in force, arresting five people, and a downtown mall closed early. The tree was lighted on a rainy Friday evening. Shortly before 6 p.m., Seattle police turned shoppers away from the downtown Westlake Center mall, saying it was closed for the night. Mall security confirmed the shopping center had closed. The mall had been scheduled to stay open until 9 p.m.In a statement, Mayor Ed Murray said while he supports the protesters’ First Amendment rights, “violence against property or police officers will not be tolerated in our city.” Police said arrests included people accused of assaulting officers and damaging an officer’s bicycle.

As an extra bonus, Seattle police arrested a man with fireworks enough for New Years Eve!

A man arrested during Monday night’s Ferguson-related protest in Seattle faces several charges after police say they uncovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives in his backpack and car.Jeffrey Alan Acord, 31, was charged Wednesday with possession of a concealed weapon without a permit, carrying a dangerous knife and illegal possession of fireworks, reported NBC affiliate KING5. According to police, a witness saw Acord reach under a vehicle while holding a road flare, and when they searched him, they found a loaded 9 mm handgun without a permit and a 7-inch knife. More weapons, including an assault rifle and a shotgun, as well as a box of fireworks, were found in his car after police secured a search warrant, The Seattle Times reported.

I thought progressives were suppose to do things, “for the children”. The Ferguson protesters attempts at ruining the Christmas season to the point they are truly worthy of my “Grinch Award” for 2014.
