Ebola Panic: Obama signs Executive Order authorizing Reserves call up

“it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation United Assistance”

S–t just got real.

The call up will assist the military force fighting Ebola as part of Operation United Assistance.

The Executive Order appears to be part of sending the National Guard to Liberia.

Here’s the Order, via Zeke Miller:

Obama Ebola Executive Order October 16 2014

Here’s the key portion of the Order:

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10 , United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation United Assistance, which is providing support to civilian-led humanitarian assistance and consequence management support related to the Ebola virus disease outbreak
in West Africa . In furtherance of this operation, under the stated authority, I hereby authorize the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, and to terminate the service of those units and members ordered to active duty ….

What will they do?

The sources said that eight engineers and logistical specialists [I think they mean specialties] from the Guard, both active-duty and reservists, would probably be included in the first deployment. They are expected to help build 17 Ebola treatment centers, with 100 beds apiece. The sources said that no decision had been made.

And, of course, they will have NO contact with anybody who might infect them….

Valerie in reply to Ragspierre. | October 16, 2014 at 6:07 pm

That was a lie the first time, around. Then they changed it to admit that they would have people taking and analyzing samples.

Yup, we are talking about taking samples from people with ebola. No contact, indeed.

got a bridge to sell you 🙂

health care workers over there already talking about strikes, our people will get called to cover.
      as planned 🙁

Golly, I sure do hope they have careful provisions made allowing their votes to count in this election cycle…

Deodorant in reply to Ragspierre. | October 16, 2014 at 5:38 pm

That’s the plan. He is going to activate and deploy them all then not count their votes. Damn! You figured it out.

Ragspierre in reply to Deodorant. | October 16, 2014 at 7:04 pm

Well, I just KNOW you’d NEVER want them to do that…AGAIN.

Like they have in the past.

      Right, moron?

Deodorant in reply to Ragspierre. | October 17, 2014 at 2:59 pm

Ever find any proof that anyone in the armed forces was systematically denied the right to vote?

There appear to be a lot of people currently in the country that conservatives are attempting to systematically deny the right to vote. One state Senator in Pennsylvania bragged about winning his state for Romney in the last election cycle after they passed a discriminatory law.

The history of voter suppression in this country is long and rich. In the south they used poll taxes and literacy tests. We all know what happened to Goodman, Cheney and Schwerner. They were trying to lawfully register voters. Duh!

Barry and his prog drone army hate the US Armed Forces. And one of the things that really gets them boiling is the ALL VOLUNTEER armed forces. They’re constantly harping about it… just recently Bernie Sanders, one of the handful of progs who at least have the sack to openly proclaim the fact that they want to blow Karl Marx, called (again) for the draft. So what better way to destroy the volunteer armed forces than to throw them into the hot zone? Uncle Sam wants YOU to get Ebola! I bet you can hear the crickets chirping at the recruiting stations about now. Next up, the general draft. Barry will do anything he can to destroy this nation.

“So what better way to destroy the volunteer armed forces than to throw them into the hot zone?”

Destroying the Veteran’s health care system has proved helpful in that regard.

Military MD: “I’ve got good news and bad news for you. The good news is you’ve got ebola.”

Soldier: “Holy crap, what’s the bad news?”

Military MD: “The VA will be handling your treatment.”

OK… What I want to know is what he’s doing to protect my family.

You white crackas been holding my people down for generations so don’t be axing me or my brothers for nuttin, honkey lips!

Hey Baby, is that you Mooch? Did ya get that little yeast infection dealt with Sweetie? I sure hope so, cause I need a place to park the Caddy tonight – someplace clean and vacant. I hear you pinned Dumbo’s ears back the other night, something about golf. heh heh You rock Mooch – I really miss seeing you wear those shower curtains at all the State Dinners. Why did you stop, all the white bread complaining?

      Is that you President Ebola?

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2014 at 4:43 pm

So Hagel will take the fall. Serves him right.

The governors control the NG of their states, don’t they? I hope they are able to refuse the call up on behalf of their NGmen. This is ridiculous. It seems that Obama wants to ensure that Ebola comes to America.

That is not inconsistent with his creation of the experience of colonialism for the benefit of Americans. The president who brought in hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and made their employment a priority over the employment of citizens is quite capable of showing Americans what it is to be a colonized people subject to fierce diseases brought in by the new colonial masters.

The entire third-tenth world are the colonial masters of Americans; in the speak of anti-American nuts, just a Colombus and other colonizers brought strange diseases to these shores and decimated the native populations, Obama is letting in new colonial masters to do the same to us. Back then, smallpox and measles were deadly. Today, we have Ebola.

Observer in reply to Juba Doobai!. | October 17, 2014 at 6:49 am

And also enterovirus, a/k/a the Honduran flu/Honduran polio.

Obama’s blatant lawlessness at the border has let that into the country too, and dozens of American kids have been sickened, and some have died, as a result.

But you can’t “fundamentally transform” our once-great nation without crippling and killing some American kids, right?

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2014 at 4:46 pm

By using the NG, they can deplete conservative votes in a couple of given states, assuming the NG personnel from that given state has been trained for biohazard/chem. Or not.

This is useless posturing without a quarantine of Africa.

    C. Lashown in reply to randian. | October 16, 2014 at 7:12 pm

YES! Insane to try and fight a potential pandemic with ‘Politically Correct’ policies. That’s the same mindset/worldview that caused us to leave Iraq and turn Afghanistan over to the Taliban.

The only ones to see this as a positive viewpoint are the environmentalists, who claim there are to many people on earth anyway. Notice though, none of them are volunteering to die for the welfare of the world.

Still, THIRTEEN YEARS after 9/11, the politically correct crowd speak of the terrorists and not the ‘Muslim’ terrorists. The enemy is controlling the verbiage, and soon the battlefield.

Henry Hawkins in reply to C. Lashown. | October 16, 2014 at 7:19 pm

*Militarily* speaking, the Islamic terrorists have achieved nothing in the west. They don’t need to since western liberal governments are basically surrendering piece by piece, starting with the culture. The UK in particular is retreating so fast she trips over her own feet in her haste.

Why can’t the US hire locals to build the treatment centers. Don’t the locals need jobs?

Henry Hawkins in reply to dckubler. | October 16, 2014 at 7:20 pm

    Or call Haliburton.

    Gremlin1974 in reply to dckubler. | October 16, 2014 at 8:01 pm

Why is it our responsibility in the first place. I don’t read anything in the Constitution that says that our government is required to help other countries. It does however, say very clearly that the first duty of the government is to “Provide for the Common Defense” of the U.S. and its citizens, yet they refuse to ban travel from countries with Ebola outbreaks which is the best way to defend the citizens of the U.S. from Ebola.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to dckubler. | October 16, 2014 at 8:05 pm

Locals? If the locals were worth a damn, none of this would be happening. You – and President Obola – also seem to think we should pay for it.

We shouldn’t be there, we shouldn’t go there, and we shouldn’t allow them to come here. Anybody who wants to go there on a mission of mercy should charter their own plane and not plan on coming back for several years.

The useless, lying bastard finally found his ‘shovel ready’ jobs.

“Do something!” “Till the election is over”.
Then, “Back to the golf course!”

Doug Wright Old Grouchy | October 16, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Just remember that if you like your health, you can keep it; he promises.

The OUA folks will just be constructing infrastructure facilities, taking careful blood samples, and transporting folks for treatment? What could possibly go wrong?

(1) At this point it should be volunteer or privatized. To call up other people’s family members for such a service is a misuse of the military by an arrogant commander.

(2) Would he sent his wife as a volunteer nurse?

The order refers to reserves and reserve components. There is no reference in it to National Guard. Based strictly on what I’m reading in the memos posted here- there is no authorization to mobilize National Guard units or individual National Guard members, unlss they are by chance IRR members. There will be a few who may fall in that category.

The National Guard is not the Army nor the Army Reserve.

Someone needs to publicly discuss what exactly would be a lawful order vs. an unlawful order. Any UCMJ experts out there that care to comment?

Also, what will be the policy for those U.S. military personnel who may be exposed to the virus? Will they be quarantined in country? Will bodies be transported back or will there be an overseas burial.

If people of a certain fanatic persuasion are willing to hijack and crash passenger airplanes into buildings, to drive explosives laden trucks into buildings serving as military barracks, or to detonate explosive laden vests among a group of people they oppose, what is stopping them from deliberately infecting themselves and traveling to the United States before they show an elevated body temperature or any other symptoms?

aguyfromjersey | October 16, 2014 at 10:28 pm

I’m not sure if anybody else saw the picture that goes with this story. Showing the troops getting training at Fort Bliss
http://www.northjersey.com/news/ebola-preparedness-ramps-up-in-new-jersey-as-hospitals-told-to-hold-drills-1.1109190

But blue rubber gloves & duct tape? This is how they are sending the troops out?

And after looking at and thinking about some of the comments, methinks the National Guard was left out deliberately from these orders. Because what if a governor said “No, my states National Guard isn’t going.” That 10th amendment thingee would kick in. The NG can be federalized for defense of the nation or for a declared war, or for a national emergency WITHIN the United States. NG officers, if they have any political aspirations, have them on a state level. If the governor says no and the president says go- and the troops don’t want to go anyhow- my guess is that the NG will stay put. Someone who knew what they were doing wrote that executive order. So it was someone with whom this POTUS doesn’t normally consult with. I’m willing to bet that none of Obamas inner circle can properly define the difference between the federal armed forces, the national guard, and for the states that have them, the state guard or militia, and the purposes of each. I’d also bet none of them can tell the difference between a Marine and a soldier.

What is this country going to be when this man is through with it? God help us.
