Prayer 2

In March 2011, two Palestinians from a nearby village infiltrated an Israeli community on the West Bank and killed the Fogel family with knives, first the parents as they slept and then the children.

I asked, “What Kind Of Person stabs a three-month old infant to death?”  A similar question could be asked, “What kind of person goes to a kindergarten and shoots children?”

The Fogel murderers were driven by hate, not mental illness.  When captured, one of the murderers proclaimed, “I’m proud of what I did…I did it all for Palestine.”  In Gaza people passed out candy and Hamas issued a statement of support.

At the time I wrote a post, Prayer, about the prayer hanging over the bed of one of the children, 11-year old Jacob Fogel (via Israel Matzav).

I thought it was worth running again:

“May it be Your will, L-rd G-d and G-d of our forefathers, that I love every one of Israel as myself, and to graciously perform the positive commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself. And may it also be Your will, Lord G-d and G-d of my forefathers, that you cause the hearts of my friends and neighbors to love me fervently, and that I be accepted and desirable to everyone, and that I be loving and pleasant, and that I be gracious and merciful in the eyes of all who see me. As water reflects face to face, so the heart of man to man. And all for the sake of Heaven, to do Your will, Amen.”
