Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, R.I.P.

The Associated Press is reporting that retired General Norman Schwarzkopf has died. He was 78. Schwarzkopf served as the commander of coalition forces during the Persian Gulf War in 1990. His strategy of using a “left hook” to go behind Iraqi forces occupying Kuwait was widely credited with bringing the ground war to a close in just four days. He gave frequent news conferences during the war and was dubbed “Stormin’ Norman” for his notorious temper. He retired from active service in 1991 and served as a military analyst for NBC news during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
