Presidential Town Hall Debate Night

Presidential Town Hall Debate Night

Starts at 9 p.m. Eastern.

It’s hard to imagine that Romney will crush Obama as badly as in the first debate.  It just has to be more even, which will be enough for the MSM’s “comeback kid” narrative which already has been written.  Maybe there was a time the media could drive that narrative, but it may be too late for that.

This is just an open thread for people to make their feelings known. I’m not going to “live blog” it.

And at the end, there will be an assessment.

So have at it.

Update: My column at USA Today, Obama needed debate blowout but didn’t get it.

Agreed Professor Jacobson. If Obama can look at Romney and loudly proclaim: “47%, Bain & Hopey Change!” the MSM will deem him Winner of the Universe. But just maybe Romney will leave the left crying into its pillow tonight.

Romney must have nerves of steel. I am a bundle of nerves for him, I guess. Thank heavens there’s only one more of these.

I still hold out hope for more fireworks. 🙂 😉

I will be at my Twitter station and here for about half the debate — then I have to take my son to a scouting event. Actually, he and I will be watching it together before we leave, and I will add his comments to the discussion as appropriate.

I’ve thought about this: can Obama possibly do worse?

And I’ve concluded: yes, yes he can. The “town hall” format by its very nature is unpredictable and Obama doesn’t respond well in a teleprompter-free world. Sure, he’ll avoid the mistakes from the first debate but Obama still has an awful record to defend and Romney won’t let up the pressure.

Obama couldn’t do worse than the first debate but he may not do any better.

I wouldn’t live blog it either… the VP Debate proved the impact of a given debate likely has a delay factor.

What really matters the most is the public’s post-debate general consensus after a good soak time.

I can’t believe how nervous I am. I feel like they’re going to pull some really dirty trick.

I would like to point out, Obama’s eyes are his ‘tell.’

I noticed his telegraphing eyes right away in his first debate with McCain.

In his last debate he chose to hide his eyes by looking down when he knew he was being handed his ass.

http://www.theconservativevoices.com/media/livestream.html

like last time, if anyone wants to watch the live stream w/o the you tube comments and stuff.

I agree, Voting, I’ve noticed that, too.

In their first debate, Obama really reacted to Romney’s introduction of the Government Trickle-Down Economy narrative and immediately nodded in response to that powerful barb and looked down.

He had no comeback for it.

[…] section. Many website will have an open thread: The second debate. Join in. Watch. Comment. The debate is at 9:00 ET. Put your vintage WWII helmet on or one of those ornate Prussian Army helmets with the gold spike on […]

How did they manage to get Medusa to host???

College question first!!! Go CI! 🙂

Obama looks mad.

Not everyone needs to go to college. There are so many jobs that need filling. Brick masonry has an average age of 69 – plumbers average age of 55 – we need young people to fill these positions.

Obama’s voice sounds weak.

What the hell is Obama saying??

Oh here she goes

Obama is blinking alot. Is that a nervous tick?

ouch thats ones going to leave a mark

I keep saying it but it’s true, I didn’t much care for Romney throughout the campaign, but as I watch him in these debates I really do like him more and more

Obama is not convincing when he attempts to use statistics. He has never run a business except run it into the ground like solar/green industries.

Townhall Format gives me hives, so I’m watching Detroit & NY in MoTown and checking here for comments.

Mitt:Please b’yotch slap the snot outta The Boy King for having ‘The Buck Stops With Hillary’! Soooooooooo manly of the Anointed One.

Obama totally lies and is snippy. And, as a bonus, he is tripping over his words.

Candy raising her voice, how rude yet so expected.

Cho should be cho-chooing away.

If we were drilling as much as you say Obama then gas would be less that $4.00 right now, how insulting.

Running interference isn’t she?

I just read Obama just released more federal land for solar not drilling – you lie, Obama.

LOVE THE GASOLINE QUESTION. Obama is toast when Romney starts to answer. Can’t wait to see that!

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:14 pm

Cowley taking sides already.

Yes, oil, gas, coal – all of it, yes, Romney – we need energy independence.

I can’t believe the Secret Service let Romney dissect Obama on national TV!

Bam sounds like Captain Kirk

Aww, Candy is directing Obama, how helpful.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:17 pm

Romney did real well on the energy question.

Obama now calling Romney a liar, in essence.

Lie, lie, – the price of gas tells the truth, Obama.

Obama can’t answer the question –

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:20 pm

Obama thinks repeating his lies will turn them into truths.

Can’t stand him.

Get him Romney, get him!

slap down …listen to your dad obama

Candy helping again, isn’t that special.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Obama doesn’t have a clue about supply and demand.

BS you had 3 1/2 years to fix things, Obama, you didn’t.

Pipeline around the earth once? Oh my, Obama not mentally crisp tonight.

Obama jumbling info – not very clear.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:22 pm

Green energy jobs – at plants that produce nothing and then go bankrupt – that’s not an energy strategy either, moron.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Romney taking o by the horns – o making up answers, stumbling, obviously lying, Romney hammering him again, o trying to throw R off by interrupting/kibbitzing. o is epic fail on this one, showing his extreme weakness in this area.

ROFLOL! o drowning, grasping, claiming gas prices were lower when he took office as R pointed out because the economy was bad at that time. Huh? WTF?

Romney straightening Cowley out who’s trying to cut him off.

Obama’s shout outs are coming across as rude.

ROMNEY OWNS CROWLEY!!! YES, Romney is handling both the blathering idiots on stage super well.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 9:24 pm

My wife and I disagree about how well Obama was addressing or talking his way out of the oil drilling permits on federal land yanked before Romney clamped down.

Was Obama making ground or losing it?

Did Romeny overplay his hand by putting an end to the interruption? Was his facial expression good while Obama then “addressed” the question about oil prices and permits?

I hate this format- I’m switching to the baseball game

Interest, dividends, capital gains tax breaks are the way of the future!

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:27 pm

Lefty hand-out queen asking R question about tax deductions for her personal favorite deductions.

I see $5 trillion tax cut coming…lol

Obama’s swagger is like that of a street thug.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to OldSarg. | October 16, 2012 at 9:34 pm

o’s tax “plan” explanation was a petulant, whining spin job.

R hammering o about his failures, reiterating his own plan, o smirking off to the side.

Cowley giving o another shot to tear down R’s plan. According to her previous M.O., she would have moved on. She only mooves on when o has had a somewhat decent comeback – she wants that to be the last word. She’s letting o ramble well past the time limit, and not the first time.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:27 pm

“My philosophy on taxes has been simple” – the more, the better…!~!

he keeps saying what he will do and has done and yet the results are staring us in the face ….no where to run ….no where to hide

    JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Aggie95. | October 16, 2012 at 9:37 pm

R tearing that BS apart right now.

Here goes Cowley interrupting R again after about 1/4 the amount of time she gave o.

SoCA Conservative Mom | October 16, 2012 at 9:28 pm

If we are serious about reducing the deficit, we need to elect Romney. 🙂

What “tough spending cuts” has Obama proposed?

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:28 pm

WHAT SPENDING CUTS, MORON?!?!?

The wealthy do a little bit more with a flat tax. We have a progressive tax (higher rates, not just higher amounts due to percentage) already.

Obama is claiming to espouse policies radically different from what his policies are. Are we to believe he will wake up and do something different?

Yes, I do believe Romney! I do hope he will cut taxes

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:30 pm

You’ve never run so much as a lemonade stand, moron – how can you presume to know what will grow the economy or middle class?

Obama has no understanding of what helps the economy. His “educational deductions” has nothing to do with helping the economy.

If low gas prices are a product of a crappy economy, perhaps Romney should have responded to by Obama by saying….. then why isn’t it free today?

Here’s a clue Barack… a tax credit for hiring veterans doesn’t help me one freaking bit. Not one.

Hi Mr. President can I throw you a softball to hit?

Yay. Bobo is smirking in the background. Yay. He did not disappoint me.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Stupid man – reduced / eliminated capital gains tax would result in greater investment and grow the economy!

SoCA Conservative Mom | October 16, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I wish the had large BS foghorn. Every time someone on stage lies, like oil production on federal lands has gone up, his answer is drown out by the foghorn. Now I want to watch old Looney Toons cartoons… good gravy, so many Foghorn J Leghorn quotes come to mind… “Nice girl, but about as sharp as a sack of wet mice,”…”That dog’s like taxes, he just don’t know when to stop”…”This is going to cause more confusion than a mouse in a burlesque show.” There are so many more.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:35 pm

Can’t buy YOUR sales pitch, Obama ~

theduchessofkitty | October 16, 2012 at 9:36 pm

The Duke is telling me The One cannot hold it together. I asked him, “Does he sound like someone who understand basic Economics?”

His answer: “Nope.”

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:38 pm

Pay equality – that’s why Obama’s female staffers are paid less than male staffers….hypocrisy, thy name is Obama…

Your grandmother was a vice president at a bank – not too shabby. Where is this story going?

I don’t need an advocate Obama – I need a president.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:38 pm

cowley letting o run the clock on a softball question from a ‘rat plant.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:39 pm

B/C of your economy, Obama – women have little choice but to work outside the home to help make ends meet.

Yeah, Obama you did take over school loans. How very dictator of you.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:41 pm

Newsflash, Obama – the price of college is still astronomical, despite all the government money flooding in – it’s called tinkering with the market, and it results in artificially higher prices.

I think Romney’s direct speaking to the audience on women, the number in his cabinet, flexible scheduling is excellent.

Other issues, don’t tell me – here comes abortion.

OMG! He;s mixed birth control into women’s employment opportunities. . .

You are forcing religious institution to supply contraception. Obamacare is not advocacy it’s a force against American’s rights.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 9:44 pm

R doing a pretty good job with the question by focusing on jobs, pointing out how many women have lost jobs in last 4 years – explaining rising tide/strong economy lifts all boats.

cowley giving o a follow-up, o stumbling, halting speech pattern again, whining tone – probably because R turned the women’s issue question back to the employment problem.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Oh, yes, healthcare – the economy is in the toilet, Libya is a hellhole, but women’s #1 concern is contraceptives…NOT.

How did jobs become the war on women and abortion? How predictable Obama has become.

Obama is playing out of the Biden playbook — call Romney a liar then BS an answer. The only difference is Obama looks dour whereas Biden looked crazed.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:45 pm

Geez, can’t they pick a question from someone other than a plant?

Goody, blame Bush. This woman is a plant. How original.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to NewtCerto. | October 16, 2012 at 9:52 pm

R just put the contraceptives question back to bed where it belongs.

o blaming Bush again. o actually claiming that shortly after he took office that they’ve created 5.2m new jobs, 31 months of job growth. Yep. He actually said that.

o having a field day making claims about differences between R and Bush.

Hate to say it but Obama is looking better than Romney. Don’t know why Romney is missing so many opportunities to bring it to Obama. Where was Solyndra? Where was the explaining that the reason that we’re importing less oil is that the economy is limping along. What is going on?

Romney is doing a good job differentiating between himself and Bush.

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:50 pm

“tough on China” – from the guy who admires Chinese policy

Yes, I think Romney is doing a good job, and the Bush vs. himself answer was good.

As Obama has brought up Al Quaeda, I am expecting Romney to bring Ambassador Stevens.

Obama doesn’t make sense he is trying to cover everything touching on everything but it isn’t coherent. He is lying – he is hesitating, getting angry about time. His answers don’t flow. His arguments are piecemeal.

9thDistrictNeighbor | October 16, 2012 at 9:54 pm

Barry keeps loading fat pitches and Romney misses the opportunities. Gas prices, birth control, planned parenthood, etc. Barry brings up bin Laden and Romney should bring up Ambassador Stevens, but he won’t.

Obama has taken the advice of his consultants: LIE

Considering Crowley has blocked Romney so many times from following up with an answer, particularly on the differences vs. Bush, I wonder if she’ll block Obama now from responding on a question about him? Haha!

Whoa! She cut him off!
