Presidential Town Hall Debate Night

Presidential Town Hall Debate Night

Starts at 9 p.m. Eastern.

It’s hard to imagine that Romney will crush Obama as badly as in the first debate.  It just has to be more even, which will be enough for the MSM’s “comeback kid” narrative which already has been written.  Maybe there was a time the media could drive that narrative, but it may be too late for that.

This is just an open thread for people to make their feelings known. I’m not going to “live blog” it.

And at the end, there will be an assessment.

So have at it.

Update: My column at USA Today, Obama needed debate blowout but didn’t get it.

Did she just call him President Romney?

nordic_prince | October 16, 2012 at 9:59 pm

Legal immigrants – funny how important that adjective is.

Of course, another liberal plant question

Smirkies form the Prez again

Meh – who needs legislation when Obama can just issue executive fiat?

State the obvious, Obama, we are a county of immigrants.

Hey, Obama – a drunk illegal hit my car. Is that criminal enough?

SoCA Conservative Mom | October 16, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Notice how Romney gave his family history and that both he and his wife are the children or grandchildren of immigrants. O’bummer, not so much. /smirk

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:04 pm

o absolutely lying his azz off about the border enforcement.

We always need to show our papers in the form of ID Obama if we to fly, drive, etc. – where have you been living?

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:05 pm

“gone to school here and pledged allegiance to the flag”

Not in America as envisioned by Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Durban, Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer, George Miller, Henry Waxman, John Lewis, former Rep. Alan Grayson, Joe Biden and the likes of Paul Krugman.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:06 pm

How difficult is it just to “introduce legislation?”

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:06 pm

o really knows nothing about anything. He really is clueless as a book.

o’s theme of blaming everyone but himself is becoming pronounced.

Oooh – Obama’s getting petulant now.

Obama is such a democrat talking point in a suit.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:09 pm

R talking, o interrupting about time, cowlet telling R to hurry up.

Disgusting display, and very obvious on o’s part.

Libya – should be interesting. Will Obama lie, again.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:09 pm

SOMEONE PLEASE: pull out the data about how CALPERS, other state government funds, and Elizabeth Warren are invested!!!

I lack the time.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:09 pm

cowley letting o ramble on after telling R to hurry up.

9thDistrictNeighbor | October 16, 2012 at 10:10 pm

Libya—ready, aim…okay Mitt, FIRE!

No, no, no, Obama – when our enemies kill Americans you tend to apologize and blame a film.

What about the fact that Obama had a Democratic congress and he could have passed whatever he wanted, including immigration reform? Why is Romney asking O if he knows where his pension is invested? What is going on?

SoCA Conservative Mom | October 16, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Beef up the security on an embassy as it is being overrun? he has sh*t for brains or thinks we do.

Find the perps? The FBI was on the ground in Libya for less than 24 hours 2 weeks after it happened. I’m so disgusted right now.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:11 pm

I do not know her personally, but people I do know personally say that Candy Crowley is not as awful as the broader perception of CNN and her.

Damning with faint praise, for sure.

But, maybe err on the side of giving these masochist moderators a break, until the fact? really show otherwise.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Bhengazi now…………

o dodging question, which was what happened beforehand, not after the fact. Now o banging about R pointing out o’s failure in the matter – has not addressed the man’s question “We’re investigating.”

YES – nail him on Libya, Mitt!!

SoCA Conservative Mom | October 16, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Grieving with the families at Andrews… photo op between the caskets?

You are playing politics – Obama, that is what you’ve always done.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:15 pm

The Arab World, let alone the Muslim World, let alone the fundamentalist Muslim World, is not interested in making peace with us on terms that are any more acceptable than the Communist definition of “peace,” which was, our enemies win and we lose.

There will always be a tiny fraction (or more) of hostiles who will prevent peace. Even one-one thousandth of one percent of Palestinians, Muslims, Arabs, Persians, Israelis, etc., who wish for and pursude active/hot conflict is enough to cause perpetual propblems.

The only answer is strength and bright lines.

Crowley is as bad as I thought. She stated earlier that most of the questions that the common people could ask were very plebian, about their job, their healthcare, their family , their finances. And she could ask better questions.

Yeah, Romney – caught Obama in a lie – yeah get the transcript.

Stop defending Obama, Candy.

Jeez Crowley just said it took 2 wks for the administration to say this was a riot about a tape. She is confused because her guy is kgetting his ass kicked.

Aw, Candy – things were just beginning to get interesting!

Oh, golly, Obama wants to move on to another topic. No more Libya. Obama looks pathetic.

It’s called Fast and Furious.

I have family in Juarez, Mexico. Thanks for jeopardizing their lives and livelihood, Obama.

Why is Romney always asking O questions and letting O break in? What’s Romney doing?

We have a right to bear arms. To stop armed criminals is to have armed citizens.

Bad schools dont cause crime, lack of morals causes crime.

JackRussellTerrierist | October 16, 2012 at 10:21 pm

cowley giving o a mulligan/opportunity to blame Hillary, basically asking o to correct himself that the buck doesn’t stop with o, it stops with Hillary.

Ohhhhhhh…….R’s got him now. See the fear in o’s eyes as R has caught o in a lie re when o said in Rose Garden Libya was terror attack. o interrupting, trying to shut R up, cowley trying to help by lying for o, o wanting to change the subject, cowley falling all over herself to bail o’s azz out of huge lie.

ouch ….oh boy …they can’t ignore it now

Romney puts Obama on the spot to answer questions that Obama refuses to answer – effective in demonstrating Obama has no answers.

Fast and Furious yeah – say it Romeny! I didn’t think he was going to bring it up – yes!

Holy crap! She once again goes to bat for Obama on AK-47sw

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to foolishcop. | October 16, 2012 at 10:38 pm

Yeah, she was trying to damage R with his base over the MA automatic gun ban. She was real interested in the details of who agreed to one little law in one little state, but bent over backwards to shut R down on the talk about Libya and the detail of when o finally told the truth- 2 weeks after he’s climing in this debate. So, MA auto gun ban vastly more worthy of detailed questioning than a massive terrorist attack.

    Thsi woman is despicable.

Candy, Romney is not five years old. Stop redirecting him to the truth – Fast and Furious was about limiting American’s ability to own guns.

Obama sounds so lame – was for it before he was against it – really?

I think Romney but not by much but I suspect good enough

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:25 pm

When it comes to partisan talking points, the facts about the pre-Obama Administration causes of poverty and about educational attainment put a lot of weight on individual responsibility and parental responsibility.

Teachers should not expect a pass, and, in fact, organized teacher’s unions have thwarted some helpful reforms.

Obama talking about “young people hav[ing] opportunity” and a “chance to succeed,” however, is priceless.

Chicago Teachers, what say you?

How did Obama go from gun control question to education?

Gains in math and science – you lie. It’s about teaching children self esteem and global warming, sorry, I mean climate change.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Hiring MORE teachers???????????

How about a system that does not shield “bad” teachers by limiting the upside for “good” teachers???

The saddest thing one can do is be a really good teacher in a public school system: Your rewards are capped in a tradeoff that makes it so difficult to punish, let alone dismiss, bad teachers.

Just attended a function where a good friend’s brother is the principal of a school not far from Hofstra, the site of the Obama-Romney debate.

The friend’s brother is definitely a “liberal.” He told me that the average cost of getting rid of a bad teacher is:

Wait for it>

Wait for it>>

Wait for it>>>

$1,000,000. That’s one million dollars. ONE MILLION!!!

Good solid answer Mitt – very good.

What about Obama shifting jobs overseas with taxpayer money?

Obama’s statement on Benghazi:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/09/12/statement-president-attack-benghazi

No mention of terror. He did mention hurting people’s religious feelings.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Sanddog. | October 16, 2012 at 10:43 pm

    Thanks.

DINORightMarie in reply to Sanddog. | October 16, 2012 at 11:41 pm

I suggest you screen-cap it. The regime will change that transcript (or just deep 6 it) ASAP.

Liars can’t allow the facts to remain……to prove them liars.

Especially when they hold all the cards, and the power.

    Romney/Ryan 2012!

What, does Obama think that overseas profits should be taxed twice, once in foreign country, once here? Sheesh.

    TrooperJohnSmith in reply to nordic_prince. | October 17, 2012 at 8:38 am

Obama is totally out of his depth when speaking of business, jobs and commerce.

Romney needs to point out that the president was a lifetime community organizer. He, on the other hand, built businesses and solved huge fiscal problems, both in and out of government.

    BIG difference, that.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Interternational tax rates is a complicated issue.

So is repatriation of funds from abroad.

Neither party has a stellar track record on this, mostly because of the complications with our tax code.

But, Obama wants to “double our exports,” by creating “tens of thousands of jobs all across the country.”

Tens of thousands????????? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw!!!!!

JimMtnViewCaUSA | October 16, 2012 at 10:31 pm

I can NOT stand Obama’s voice. So strident. So condescending. So patronizing.
But my kid has to watch the show as a class assignment. Dear God, pls let this be over soon…..

    9thDistrictNeighbor in reply to JimMtnViewCaUSA. | October 16, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Actually, Hillary’s voice makes me swear like a longshoreman; Barry just makes me want to throw things at the television.

Tigers 2 Yankees 0. Top of the 7th

9thDistrictNeighbor | October 16, 2012 at 10:31 pm

Time to watch the Tigers game.

Obama makes it blatantly clear that he does not know how grow the economy. He is spouting the same old talking points.

Obama seems to try to attack Romney while talking himself up, but the approach is weak, not convincing.

Government does not create jobs – exactly!

The one critique I’d make of Romney’s performance this debate is that I think he smiled and seemed “happier” far more than he does in this one. I still think he’s done an incredible job battling both opponents.

You lie, Obama, you are such a liar, government has increased while the private sector has decreased. What a joke, Obama and the 47% again. Not effective, sorry.

Four years of failure. Obama was more aggressive, but Romney was stellar. Romney won by his sheer truth, optimism and confidence. O 47% dig was weak.

What about “you didn’t build that”? Romney missed too many opportunities.

9thDistrictNeighbor | October 16, 2012 at 10:41 pm

If Mitt were Newt, I’d be much happier right now.

Interesting, Obama was defensive about Romney’s that govt doesn’t create jobs, because it hit a nerve, because it was true.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:43 pm

I know!!!

It would have been so delicious to see Newt Gingrich debate Barack Obama.

Obama lied about believing in free enterprise, self-reliance. His Pinocchio nose stretches all the way out the door by now.

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Make that:

I know!!!

It would have been so delicious to see Newt Gingrich debate Barack Obama.

“Oh, the humanity!” “Oh, the humanity!!”

[With apologies to budding Nazi passengers who died in Lakehurst, NJ. What were they doing coming into our country anyhow? Oh yeah, Time Magazine had named Hitler “Man of the Year,” which is not always an accolade, but . . . when will Reagan, Thatcher and Pope John Paul II get a Nobel Peace Prize, given that Obama, Yasser Arafat, and the European Union have racked them up?]

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:47 pm

Would have also loved to see Condoleeza Rice debate Barack Obama.

Condoleeza Rice has genuine skills in every category that Barack Obama …. Oh, never mind.

Suffice to say that she has hard-earned gravitas and he has title earned by bigotry and bullshit.

By now, BO should have been able to debate Condoleeza Rice. He’s had 4 years to get conversant on all the issues, and the best possible teachers.

Jack The Ripper in reply to Valerie. | October 16, 2012 at 11:17 pm

      Val,

We are on the same page, I think.

But Holy S, Condoleeza would “destroy” him, unless she decided to be polite.

Obama interrupted so many times because he couldn’t let his lies go unchallenged.

theduchessofkitty | October 16, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Moral of the story here.

A “Town Hall-style” Presidential Debate in New York’s LONG ISLAND with “Undecided” voters… Don’t believe any of it for a minute.

First, it’s LONG ISLAND – NASSAU COUNTY, for cryin’ out loud! Do a Town Hall-Style Presidential Debate near Cincinnati, OH with truly Undecided voters, and then we can talk.

These voters were “Undecided”… my foot. I lived in the NYC area for five long years. That place has pretty much exterminated every last Republican down to just a few places here and there, like an infestation of roaches is treated by pest control. A truly “undecided” voter would have to be someone who has spent twenty years in Mars before living in NY for the last five months.

Now, at Hofstra U. Two words: Political Correctness. Means: No Republicans/conservatives/Christians/etc. need apply. A PC campus is as close to North Korea as it gets.

This whole thing was STACKED through the roof against Romney from the get-go. It’s all about the realtor’s motto: “Location, location, location.”

Jack The Ripper | October 16, 2012 at 10:55 pm

How did this person ever edge out the competition and get elected as president?

We still know next to nothing about him.

Congressional Democrats are not that happy with him.

How did this happen?

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Jack The Ripper. | October 16, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Forty years of leftist infiltration of the American education system.

Jack The Ripper in reply to JackRussellTerrierist. | October 16, 2012 at 11:20 pm

      JRT,

Yes, there have been decades of leftist public education, but Hillary Clinton and other challengers and potential challengers had the same “tailwinds” or “low-hanging fruit” to harvest.

How did this one candidate, with such a thin resume and such a mysterious background elbow his way to the top for the nomination and then the election. Sure, McCain’s skills had something to do with the latter.

But how did this one person join a club of only 44 persons since 1789?

nordic_prince in reply to Jack The Ripper. | October 17, 2012 at 12:10 am

Like the old saying goes: It ain’t what you know, it’s who you know – that’s how Obama got elected, plain and simple.

My teeth were itching for Mitt to ask why Obama’s children go to Sidwell, yet he killed the DC school voucher program, and does not support school choice nationwide. I am hearing a lot of talking heads inside the beltway, but I am a mom who is nobody, from the middle of nowhereness, and Romney connected with me….again.

Who gives a rat’s ass about the debate?

Obama must go.
