I watched the debate between candidates for NC governor, former Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory (R) vs current Lt. Governor Walter Dalton (D). Current polls, for what they’re worth, have McCrory up about 50/39. McCrory almost won in 2008, got coattailed.
Winner McCrory, easily.
It terms of record-to-date and his public presence (speaking ability, smarts, appeal, etc.), this guy has great potential. Proof’s in the pudding, though. Let’s get him into the big chair in Raleigh and see how he does as governor. Thanks to the 2010 wave, McCrory will have a GOP state house and senate to work with. Smacking my chops over that.
There are many regular LI posters from NC. I’d be interested to know if they saw this debate and what they thought, especially NCMtGirl, who seems to me a very astute political observer.
BTW, I heard there’s another debate tonight. Is that true? Who?
I can’t wait for the Voter ID and other common sense initiatives that failed by a couple of votes when Perdue vetoed them get re-introduced.

A problem for me watching the debate is having to watch and listen to Obama.

I’m starting a small business – just attended a small business seminar. All politics were unspoken but revealed in the questioning of rules and regulations regarding the IRS.
Obama sounds lost.
Tuition has been going up since you took office Obama just like everything else.
Romney hits it out of the park by personalizing 5-point plan. Obama’s response sounds snippy…and he’s pulling numbers out of his posterior and rely on the education trope (see higher education bubble)

Is it just me, or is the fact that he complains about the “Bush tax cuts” as a burden to the economy, yet said that they are essential (and he extended them) in a recession a bit hypocritical?
Romney is very good but it is hard to debate a guy who makes up facts from wholecloth. Liars can counter everything.
Obama’s imaginary savings is defied with mounting national debt, high unemployment and increase in prices for food, energy, etc.
If Romney keeps up like this he won’t need any “zingers.” He’s really showing himself to be presidential and articulate. Obama just can’t say “raise taxes.” He keeps talking about the wealthy “contributing a little more.”
Again, “contributing a little bit more” by the rich will solve our problems, but closing loopholes etc. won’t. The word “schumck” comes to mind….
