Presidential Debate Night

Presidential Debate Night

Starts at 9 p.m. Eastern.

This is just an open thread for people to make their feelings known.  I’m not going to “live blog” it.

But I may jump in with some thoughts as it goes along, maybe at any breaks.

And at the end, there will be an assessment.

So have at it.

What was that crashing behind them? It was Obama’s teleprompter committing suicide!!!

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:09 pm

newtcerto, thank you for helping her. Americans are the most generous people in the world and don’t need the government to tell them to or do it for them.

NewtCerto in reply to tellthe truth. | October 3, 2012 at 10:15 pm

I was glad to help. Keep her in your prayers. My father was orphaned as a young boy, my mother born in Mexico. They both love America, though life has been hard for them.

Obama said health care costs were rising — just slower. As if rising health care costs were a good thing.

theduchessofkitty in reply to Mutnodjmet. | October 3, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Just wait until people who have health care insurance through their jobs find out about how their premiums will raise next year because of Obamacare…

October is usually Open Enrollment Season. Right before heading to the polls.

And I bet you The One has zero clue about that right now! But Mitt knows! Sweet!

Obama is not a good listener, I heard Romney state his plans.

Wow. I didn’t realize Obamacare was only about preexisting conditions.

theduchessofkitty | October 3, 2012 at 10:12 pm

The Duke just said to me, “Romney knows his facts. Obama wishes he had the Teleprompter.”

Heh!

“We don’t know the details” of everything Romney says. Well, we do know the details of what Øbama is doing, and we don’t like it. It isn’t a secret: he isn’t president yet, and doesn’t need to feed Øbama grist for his political mill. Did we know the details of Øbamacare when it was being rammed through Congress? No, we had “to pass it in order to find out what was in it” according to the great political genius, Nancy Pelosi.

Oh no, Romney is speaking math again, sorry Obama.

Whisking away the 10th amendment….great comment!

Badger Pundit | October 3, 2012 at 10:13 pm

First presidential debate (general campaign) in which the Tenth Amendment has been mentioned?

Mr. Romney exhibits a cheerful Reagan-esque confidence.

Badger Pundit | October 3, 2012 at 10:14 pm

Yes, Obama cites the “Open Up Opportunity Clause” of the Constitution.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 10:14 pm

Do we want to elect a experienced guy that knows stuff

Or a bumbler that has failed miserably but wants to keep the perks, and offers to give free stuff, as the country burns?

Government doesn’t “open up opportunity” unless it just gets the hell out of the way!! Øbama is just a statist through and through.

Without using a stopwatch, my sense is that Obama is getting more time than Mitt.

Juba Doobai! in reply to John Sheehan. | October 3, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Obama always filibusters to run out the clock so he won’t be shown up.

A hit! Another hit! The role of government re the Constitution!
    Wowowowowowowow!!!!!!!

ufo destroyers | October 3, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Romney Just pulled Obama’s arm off and beat him over the head regarding health care.

DINORightMarie | October 3, 2012 at 10:16 pm

Straw men and red herrings. Obama is given unlimited time, flailing all over the place!!

FAIL, “moderator.”

#DenverDebate = a businessman debates an amateur golfer about taxes, budgets, and fiscal policies. #RomenyWins #DenverDebate

Obama’s answers don’t make sense.

Obama just opened the door to gun walker and the prison bought in IL when he talked about the first role of the feds. Let’s see if Romney walks through and smacks him upside the head.

Look behind us…the Constitution….

Life,Liberty…we are endowed by our Creator….keep pressing BHO with the Constitution!

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Romney is being CEO … this is bring your kids to work day

Obama and Lehrer are being schooled, Obama is being unruly

America is observing

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:17 pm

What is wrong with Romney, (sarc off) he just answers the questions while he eviserates obummer who rambles all over the place. Romney is the man!!!!

DINORightMarie | October 3, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Trickle down government! YES! Very, very strong Mitt!

Trickle Down Government…..great line….the Proof of that….the proof of that…over and over…great 12-2-3 combo hit.

I love the “trickle down government” hits. Mitt keeps hitting Øbama with the failures of the regime.

Oh man! Romney is answering the role of gov’t question by blowing out Obama! Whooooo!!!!!

Nice touch using the Declaration of Independence and Constitution as basis for the answer.

Mitt seems like he is losing a little steam, he needs to finish hard!

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:19 pm

Romney = school choice….obummer=more teacher unions

My God …am I wrong or has Romney had obama over his knee most of the night …is it just me ….what are the liberals saying

Sweet! Romney wants education money to follow the child!

I hope Romney pounces on Obama’s statement “budgets matter.” Where’s your budget Obama? 3-1/2 years and no budget!

ufo destroyers | October 3, 2012 at 10:20 pm

I don’t want any of Arne Duncan’s ideas in my schools after learning about all the major Chicago problem during the strike.

After Romney handed down specifics, Lehrer threw another lifeline to Obama but Romney hit Obama in the head with it.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Obama is lost … Lehrer trying to redirect

next … Obama breaks down crying, says he just wants to go live in his mansion in Hawaii … concedes …

Romney consoles

Government should be in the business of education, not running schools.

Let me restate that: Mitt wants the education money to follow the child, not the teacher!!

And I can’t believe he’s just returning to the talking points. This is like Debbie Wasserman-Schultz bad.

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:21 pm

i just sent my man servant out to buy more popcorn and soda so i won’t be interrupted as i watch the spin machines in warp drive tonight and tomorrow

Get me the TOTUS !!

Headlines we wont’see:”Obama stutters and drifts around”, “BHO lost without TOTUS”, “Mitt tops Obama on every question”…

Headlines we will see: “Romney rude”, “Romney continues to interrupt”, “Romney keeps evading question”

Mark my words… America is watching…America is seeing the fork in the road this election is….so MSM is already writing the headlines that tells us Mitt lost the debate, the race is over”

I think that was one of Mitt’s zingers! You’re not entitled to your own facts!

quiksilverz24 | October 3, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Line of the night. Own house, own plane, but not own facts!!

“As pres you are entitled to your own house and your own airplane, but not your own facts”!!! WHACK!!!

Your the President, you get your own plane, your own house, but you don’t get your own facts…

BEST LINE SO FAR!!

From over with Ace: George Stephanopoulos is looking for a stepstool and an extension cord right now

I never saw a Reagan debate — but Mitt’s was the single best debate performance I have ever seen. Outstanding.

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:24 pm

damn, this is even better than I could have hoped for, Romney is awesome, absolutely awesome

No, it’s no partisan gridlock, it’s Senate gridlock via Harry Reid.

Man, Obama got another upper cut to the glass jaw again. $90B in green jobs. Romney’s restating again and drumming in his points for people. I gotta hand it to Romney. I’m a Palinista, and I think Romney is channeling Sarah tonight. In parts.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 10:26 pm

How often did Obama reach across the aisle in a real way?

Never

I can just see how MSNBC will declare Obama a resounding winner. Articulate, nimble and focused. All lies. Like so much of what comes out of Obama’s mouth.

Spike the football, Obama!

quiksilverz24 | October 3, 2012 at 10:27 pm

Finally, the higher pitch lower volume from Obama!!

Middle Class Families..blah-blah-blah…Barry Obama’s nose is growing…CONTEMPT for the Middle Class, yet claiming the opposite…

Romney is like Reagan on steroids

The $90 billion could have gone for education instead of to Green jobs remark is going to leave a mark….well, another one. I wonder if Obama can use Obamacare to heal all the marks Romney left on him tonight.

theduchessofkitty in reply to Mutnodjmet. | October 3, 2012 at 10:33 pm

Yep. He’s going to need some ice on that… and some antiseptic… and a cast… and he better not have a mirror nearby. He’s going to be in for a shock!

Romney sat down with Dems for a few hours every Monday as Governor. Øbama and the Dems locked the Republicans out of the Øbamacare negotiations etc.

Midwest Rhino | October 3, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Now we’ll have to listen to Democrat claim Obama won

There was no fight in the Obamacare debate, it was forced on us, Obama.

theduchessofkitty | October 3, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Tonight, October 2012 – “I believe in working with both Democrats and Republicans.”

Budget Negotiations with McCain, 2009 – “I won.”

Once again: Hypocrite.

My faith and confidence in the American people doing the right thing, removing Obama from office.

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:29 pm

all obummer has is his talking points, no substance or facts to back up anything, he looks like and sounds like a loser

* SIGH * …. BRB ….have to go change and smoke a cig

Improvements should have already taken place, Obama.

How’s this for a headline? “President Obama does better than expected – bests Romney in 1st debate.”

As a former socialist, I know this talk, “fair profits, fair share, fair opportunity.” Dangerous stuff, this is the core of tyrants in gaining a foothold among the population. But life isn’t fair.

I should do a follow up and say I don’t believe that for a second. Romney was incredible.

… and “fair” means whatever he wants it to be.

Not a knockout… but I’d say a clear decision for Romney.

Romney wasn’t my first choice, but he did good. I fully support him. I believe him. I trust him.

Whoohu, Ryan versus Biden. Love it!

Strong excellent summary by Romney!

Romney made much better eye contact–looks voters head on. Obama mostly looked to the side.

Obama had his arse handed to him with his head on a platter tonight.

Love the fireworks!

Romney put in one of the best debates performances I’ve ever seen. Just phenomenal.

I never realized how short Jim Lehrer is

Rachel Maddow just says she can’t say who won debate. That must mean Romney won. She says Obama was calm, professorial; Romney “hyper,” but not in a bad way

October is open enrollment at my company, and I expect a lot of people will notice their max flex spending amount will be cut in half which represents a tax increase of $500 or more for most people.

Ed Schultz was disappointed in Obama! LOL!

Anyone catch the crowd cheer when Mitt moved to the crowd? I saw BHO leave the stage, crowd stays quiet….Mitt gets ready to leave, crowd showers the love.

I see fireworks!

tellthe truth | October 3, 2012 at 10:40 pm

an awesome performance by Romney, he won hands down, imagine the spin machines whirling away dervishly trying to figure it out

For the last 3.75 years we have all been saying we don’t know Obama. But we knew this side of him. Now, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN are realizing they don’t know Obama. They just found out tonight what we’ve known all along.

Chris Matthews: “What was Romney doing tonight? He was WINNING!”

Badger Pundit | October 3, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Jake Tapper on ABC: Obama “listless,” “flat” — “Not a strong performance.”

TrooperJohnSmith | October 3, 2012 at 10:49 pm

I predict Obama calls in sick for the next two. Or, he challenges Romney to 18-holes of golf, winner take all.

The Community Organizer versus the CEO came off looking like OIIOHH (Obama Is In Over His Head). But hell, what else is new.

Barry’s performance tonight reminded me of that classic movie Idiocracy. He kept trying to explain stuff and accuse Mitt of not having a plan. To me it sounded like….

What *are* these electrolytes? Do you even know?
They’re… what they use to make Brawndo!
But *why* do they use them to make Brawndo?
Because Brawndo’s got electrolytes.

I wasn’t going to watch, but I kept ready about Chris Matthews incontinence problem. Barry really looked poor. Even NBC is throwing him under the bus. Axelgrease just said not to worry and that by morning the MSM would have it all sorted. Thank goodness we have Andrea to figure out what the truth is now. She is doing a great job for the One. Everything Barry said was true and everything Mitt said was wrong.

PCH

Geez, I can’t wait for the vice presidential debates. If Romney can mop up the floor with Obama imagine what Ryan’s going to do with Biden

I’ve been imagining that since Romney picked Ryan.

I couldn’t watch tonight, because I Obama disgusts me THAT much- but I will have pop corn ready to see Ryan kick the crap out of Biden.

It will be like the last 5 minutes of every action movie where the good guy pounds the hell out of the villain.

NBC’s Williams prefaced that debate with a comment to the effect that BO had prepared for this debate more than any Prez in history. Gonna be hard to walk that one back. If anyone else noticed, that is.

After the debate was over NBC was commenting on how much time Mitt had spent preparing and how it was unfair for Barry because in addition preparing for the debate, he had to run the country at the same time. I almost ruptured my spleen laughing.

    PCH

conservativegram | October 3, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Bottom line–who looked and sounded like a President tonight? Romney!!!!!!
Thank you, Professor for the fireworks and wonderful music!

Henry Hawkins | October 3, 2012 at 11:12 pm

Obama’s first post-debate action: orders Cobra insurance application paperwork.

Henry Hawkins | October 3, 2012 at 11:16 pm

Romney: Full command of facts delivered with ease.

Obama: Often appeared, while speaking, to be trying to recall what the hell he was supposed to say if this particular shit came up.

——————————————————-

Just reported on CNN: Obama has been admitted to a Denver detox unit for Teleprompter Withdrawal Syndrome.

Henry Hawkins | October 3, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Obama turns laser focus on finding new job.

WOW…! The crew at Fox News says Romney did well…”Not a Game Changer but stopped his drift..”..Rather reserved, but it got to Frank Luntz, the chief polling guy, with a group of self-described Independents..YOWZZAAAAHHH…Most of them went for Mitt!! And, over at Liberal CNN and Left MSNBC…They were incredibly unguarded in saying that Mitt took the evening, Hands-Down. Baa-Daa-Bing.

Wonder if the 2007 race video being aired Tuesday night got Obama off his game?
