Elizabeth Warren backs away from claim she’ll “save capitalism”

No one could have seen this coming. No one.

I don’t mean that Elizabeth Warren was stretching things a bit when she said that people on Wall Street have told her she’d save capitalism.

No, the complete surprise is that Warren has fessed up and admits that the statement, which she insists was made, should not have been repeated by her.

Via The Boston Herald:

Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren is copping out of her claim that Wall Street executives are supporting her because she’ll “save capitalism,” saying she made a “silly” gaffe.

“I passed along a comment that was over the top, and it was silly for me to do so,” she told the Herald at a Somerville campaign stop….

Under questioning by the Herald at the Somerville stop today, Warren immediately backed off her claim, repeatedly saying it was a mistake. She declined to name any Wall Street tycoons who she says made the comment about her saving capitalism.

“It was silly for me to pass along the comment,” she said.

The Harvard Law professor’s admission of a mistake stands in stark contrast to her response to Herald stories about her claims of Cherokee heritage. The issue dogged Warren’s campaign for months after she gave differing responses and repeatedly tried to evade questions.

Warren still has refused to say she made a mistake by telling Harvard Law School she was an American Indian minority without any proof of Cherokee ancestry.

Warren should be forced by the media to name names as to who made the comment about her saving capitalism.

Warren is turning into a liability on many fronts for Democrats, yet they are giving her a prime spot warming up the crowd for Bill Clinton. This video produced by the Red Mass Group demonstrates the problem that Warren’s over the top anti-business rhetoric will dominate narrative of the convention:

Although there is a mountain of evidence that Warren has not been straighforward on the Native American stories, she will not apologize for that. That Cherokee issue will dog her at the convention as well.

Warren should just do for the Cherokees what she did on the “saving capitalism” claim — admit she passed along fiction, or better yet, that she wrote much of the fiction herself.

National Democrats should start to wonder why in the world they are going the full Elizabeth Warren.
