Food fight in the culture war

Tolerance.  The concept could be a bumper sticker.

But if so, it would not be welcome on the campus of Northeastern University, which just banned Chick-fil-A from campus.

From The Boston Glove via TaxProf (h/t Instapundit):

Northeastern University said yesterday that a Chick-fil-A fast-food restaurant will not be coming to campus, after the college’s student government denounced the chain amid reports that it supports groups opposed to gay and lesbian rights…. The Equality Matters website, which advocates for full equality for  gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people, reported that tax  records show that the company’s charitable arm, WinShape, has donated  millions to antigay causes in recent years.

Chick-fil-A responded, in particular to the characterization of its charitable foundation donations to a Christian sports group as “anti-gay”:

As some have looked back at the public giving records of the WinShape Foundation, they have unfortunately misinterpreted this support as having a political agenda, largely referencing any religious or faith-based giving as “anti-gay.” For example, if you take the example of FCA [Fellowship of Christian Athletes], and ask us what was the purpose of the giving, it was to support inter-city mentors and chaplains for schools and colleges primarily here metro Atlanta. Those monies have been labeled as “anti-gay” because of the affiliation with a faith-based organization.

This is how they do it, just label anyone who disagrees with you “anti-____” and bingo, boycott and exclude.

This is, of course, the same Northeastern University which hosts an anti-Israeli student group seeking to ban Sabra Hummus (made in Virginia by an Israeli-affiliated company) from campus as part of the Boycott Divest Sanction movement.

I wonder if any Jewish groups at Northeastern are seeking to ban foodstuffs which originate in countries which are anti-Semitic?

Somehow, I doubt I’ll be getting a Chick-fil-A in Ithaca anytime soon.

The end result of this food intolerance stinks.
