The Ocean State Current

The Ocean State Current

Long-time Rhode Island blogger Justin Katz, formerly of Anchor Rising, is heading up a new blog, The Ocean State Current:

Managing Editor Justin Katz attracted national attention when he joined an early wave of bloggers with his site DustintheLight.com in 2002 — back when one frequently had to explain that the term was short for “Web log.”  When current events convinced him of the precarious condition of Rhode Island civil society, he joined other local conservatives in founding AnchorRising.com in 2004.  In the years since, Justin has published regularly in such venues as the Providence Journal, National Review Online, and Rhode Island Catholic and was featured in Proud to Be Right: Voices of the Next Conservative Generation (HarperCollins, 2010), and Anchor Rising has become among the most widely read sources of political commentary in the state.

The OSC is an effort launched by the Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity, now the leading Rhode Island-based think tank devoted to free markets and economic freedom.  We need that voice in Rhode Island now more than ever.

Check out The OSC and consider bookmarking it.

“For the better part of the last decade, when I wasn’t writing, I was building — earning my living as a carpenter — and some months, it would have been difficult to say which occupation defined the dominant identity. During particularly complicated construction projects, for which I felt particularly under-qualified, there were certainly times that I felt nakedly like a writer building a house. No doubt there are days ahead that will find me a carpenter writing political philosophy.”

Which is a billion times better and more meaningful than a J-school grad pontificating on anything!

Great looking site and great writing!

Within the initials OSC how could it not be a great read? [said it first, so there].

Actually, Justin says that he will keep blogging at AR, but he’s *working* for OSC.

He has a new post on AR at 1:20pm today.
