The NAACP just passed a resolution condemning as racist the tens of millions of people who consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement.
As originally proposed, the resolution was to call upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”
The NAACP shut down the video feed and barred cameras from its vote, but reportedly the resolution was scaled back slightly, to use the term “racist elements in the Tea Parties.”
Make no mistake, either under the original or the revised version, the NAACP has placed itself firmly within the Democratic smear machine which for two years has been attempting to portray all opposition to Obama’s policies as racist.
The purported basis for the resolution is that racist signs and epithets have been hurled at Tea Party rallies. I have addressed this before. While any such behavior should be, and has been, condemned, we are talking about a literal handful of incidents out of millions of people attending thousands of rallies carrying hundreds of thousands of signs.
Moreover, the notion that the Tea Party movement stands for turning the country back to a pre-civil rights era is a gross and disgusting distortion, and an outright falsehood. A lie is a lie and the NAACP is lying.
Another Black Conservative blog has it correct in stating:
Once again the NAACP is still trying to fight pre Civil Rights era struggles in a post Civil Rights era world. They will even go after a media made racial boogeyman to do it. The NAACP is working with the false story from the media that Tea Partiers hurled racial slurs at black congressmen. To date not a single video of the incident has ever emerged and the media itself has seems to drop the story all together. Yet here is the NAACP getting all fired up about it now. If the NAACP thought there was truth to this story, they should have made noise when it happened, instead of waiting until now.
Why did they wait you ask? Because the midterm elections are now four months away and the NAACP is more about shilling the leftist agenda than they are about the “advancement of colored people”. Rallying blacks against the Tea Party is more important to the leftist agenda than tackling the real issues facing the black community like poor schools, unemployment or the devastating effects of drugs and crime.
Tim Scott, the Republican candidate for Congress is South Carolina, who is black and has strong Tea Party support, also understands what this is all about:
“I understand that the NAACP, at its annual conference in Kansas City, will vote today on a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement as “racist”. I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference.”
“As I campaign in South Carolina, I participate in numerous events sponsored by the Tea Party, 9/12, Patriot, and other like-minded groups, and I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the men and women who make up these energetic grassroots organizations. Americans need to know that the Tea Party is a color-blind movement that has principled differences with many of the leaders in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans. Their aim is to support the strongest candidates – regardless of color or background – who will fight to return our country to its Constitutional roots of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.”
I think it is even worse than that.
The NAACP resolution is part of the divide-and-conquer strategy of the Obama administration and Democrats.
The target of the NAACP is not so much the Tea Party members, but other blacks. The NAACP seeks to isolate the Tea Party movement from a natural constituency, black social and economic conservatives. The resolution puts any black who associates with the Tea Parties at risk of being labeled an Uncle Tom or some of the other race-based epithets hurled at black conservatives by black liberals.
I am reminded of then Israeli Ambassador Chaim Herzog’s response to the odious 1975 U.N. Resolution 3379, which declared that “Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.”
Herzog stated quite eloquently:
I do not come to this rostrum to defend the moral and historical values of the Jewish people. They do not need to be defended. They speak for themselves. They have given to mankind much of what is great and eternal. They have done for the spirit of man more than can readily be appreciated by a forum such as this one.
I come here to denounce the two great evils which menace society in general and a society of nations in particular. These two evils are hatred and ignorance. These two evils are the motivating force behind the proponents of this resolution and their supporters.
The NAACP resolution was hateful and ignorant. The NAACP is the biggest loser for so doing.
Oddly enough, with its outrageous and inflammatory actions, the NAACP has moved us closer to the time when race hucksterism can no longer divide us as a nation.
The NAACP’s resolution is so outrageous that it should be used as an opportunity for Tea Parties to further involve minority communities in the movement.
That would be the sweetest revenge of all.
Update: NAACP apparently is refusing to release the precise language of the resolution, and the resolution though passed by the membership is not final until approved by the Board of Directors. As reported by AP:
Debate was mostly closed to the public, but the final version “calls on the tea party and all people of good will to repudiate the racist element and activities within the tea party,” said Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP’s Washington bureau….
The final wording won’t be released until the NAACP’s national board of directors approves the resolution during its meeting in October.
