NAACP Passes “Tea Party Is Racism” Resolution
The NAACP just passed a resolution condemning as racist the tens of millions of people who consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement.
As originally proposed, the resolution was to call upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”
The NAACP shut down the video feed and barred cameras from its vote, but reportedly the resolution was scaled back slightly, to use the term “racist elements in the Tea Parties.”
Make no mistake, either under the original or the revised version, the NAACP has placed itself firmly within the Democratic smear machine which for two years has been attempting to portray all opposition to Obama’s policies as racist.
The purported basis for the resolution is that racist signs and epithets have been hurled at Tea Party rallies. I have addressed this before. While any such behavior should be, and has been, condemned, we are talking about a literal handful of incidents out of millions of people attending thousands of rallies carrying hundreds of thousands of signs.
Moreover, the notion that the Tea Party movement stands for turning the country back to a pre-civil rights era is a gross and disgusting distortion, and an outright falsehood. A lie is a lie and the NAACP is lying.
Another Black Conservative blog has it correct in stating:
Once again the NAACP is still trying to fight pre Civil Rights era struggles in a post Civil Rights era world. They will even go after a media made racial boogeyman to do it. The NAACP is working with the false story from the media that Tea Partiers hurled racial slurs at black congressmen. To date not a single video of the incident has ever emerged and the media itself has seems to drop the story all together. Yet here is the NAACP getting all fired up about it now. If the NAACP thought there was truth to this story, they should have made noise when it happened, instead of waiting until now.
Why did they wait you ask? Because the midterm elections are now four months away and the NAACP is more about shilling the leftist agenda than they are about the “advancement of colored people”. Rallying blacks against the Tea Party is more important to the leftist agenda than tackling the real issues facing the black community like poor schools, unemployment or the devastating effects of drugs and crime.
Tim Scott, the Republican candidate for Congress is South Carolina, who is black and has strong Tea Party support, also understands what this is all about:
“I understand that the NAACP, at its annual conference in Kansas City, will vote today on a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement as “racist”. I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference.”
“As I campaign in South Carolina, I participate in numerous events sponsored by the Tea Party, 9/12, Patriot, and other like-minded groups, and I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the men and women who make up these energetic grassroots organizations. Americans need to know that the Tea Party is a color-blind movement that has principled differences with many of the leaders in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans. Their aim is to support the strongest candidates – regardless of color or background – who will fight to return our country to its Constitutional roots of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.”
I think it is even worse than that.
The NAACP resolution is part of the divide-and-conquer strategy of the Obama administration and Democrats.
The target of the NAACP is not so much the Tea Party members, but other blacks. The NAACP seeks to isolate the Tea Party movement from a natural constituency, black social and economic conservatives. The resolution puts any black who associates with the Tea Parties at risk of being labeled an Uncle Tom or some of the other race-based epithets hurled at black conservatives by black liberals.
I am reminded of then Israeli Ambassador Chaim Herzog’s response to the odious 1975 U.N. Resolution 3379, which declared that “Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.”
Herzog stated quite eloquently:
I do not come to this rostrum to defend the moral and historical values of the Jewish people. They do not need to be defended. They speak for themselves. They have given to mankind much of what is great and eternal. They have done for the spirit of man more than can readily be appreciated by a forum such as this one.
I come here to denounce the two great evils which menace society in general and a society of nations in particular. These two evils are hatred and ignorance. These two evils are the motivating force behind the proponents of this resolution and their supporters.
The NAACP resolution was hateful and ignorant. The NAACP is the biggest loser for so doing.
Oddly enough, with its outrageous and inflammatory actions, the NAACP has moved us closer to the time when race hucksterism can no longer divide us as a nation.
The NAACP’s resolution is so outrageous that it should be used as an opportunity for Tea Parties to further involve minority communities in the movement.
That would be the sweetest revenge of all.
Update: NAACP apparently is refusing to release the precise language of the resolution, and the resolution though passed by the membership is not final until approved by the Board of Directors. As reported by AP:
Debate was mostly closed to the public, but the final version “calls on the tea party and all people of good will to repudiate the racist element and activities within the tea party,” said Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP’s Washington bureau….
The final wording won’t be released until the NAACP’s national board of directors approves the resolution during its meeting in October.

The NAACP lost any status as a non-racist party after its ads against George W. Bush in 2000. By tagging the then-governor as a racist for refusing to sign a hate crimes bill named for dragging victim James Byrd, despite the fact that Texas courts had sentenced two of the killers to death and the third to life (because he testified against the other two) proved that the law was unnecessary, the organization proved that it was merely one more group of political hacks playing the race card for political advantage rather than working to advance the rights of all Americans.
When your platform is no longer applicable to society and your reason d'etre no longer exists you are forced to find a need to be relevant. Unfortunately the NAACP has once again misssed the boat. I guessed the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic stance it took for years is not getting them the attention they desire so they went after the Tea Partys. It is truly sad that those that the NAACP are supposed to represent will only be once again forgotten in the malestrom that this rather outdated organziation is trying to create.
The NAACP is irrelevant.
Have they passed a resolution about the racism of Rev. Jeremiah Wright? What about barack hussein obama?
When they begin to take an even handed approach toward racism, I may listen, but at present, they lack all credibility.
So, let me get this straight. A group, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is calling another group, racists? Is this a joke?
Even as an effort to shore up black support, how do you improve on the 93% or so support Obama is already getting from the black population?
What does such an astonishingly blatant lie accomplish? More than a third of Americans claim to be Tea Party activists, related to one or good friends with one. It's one thing to slime an "enemy" seen only on TV or newspapers. It's another thing when the "enemy" is known in the first person. They are asking more than half of the population (two-thirds of the non-black population) to not believe their own eyes and to distrust their own judgment.
I predict that their membership will begin shrinking irreversibly. I really doubt that it is a case of merging with other black groups to build their numbers. At this point, I'm sure all other black groups are a subset of the NAACP. If they intend to adopt the New Black Panther agenda, they are essentially expecting the entire black population to become radicalized. Good luck with that!
We may have just witnessed the NAACP's suicide.
I saw this. I have my own take on Confessions of a Constitutional Crusader. Check it out if you have time.
All Tea Party organizations should pass a common resolution stating that the NAALCP is a sweetheart organization that needs to attend to matters of racial balance and harmony, starting, of course, with its own membership.
This is excellent! Let the NAACP keep calling the TEA party members racist. Now, let's demand proof EVERY TIME they scream racism. In a very short time, they will look like fools to everyone who watches this.
I'd love to hear this superannuated collection of irrelevant dunces make a statement on ACORN's purity of intention or the "New" Black Panther Party's agenda of GangBanger Shabazz who wants to "kill" whites and also the intimidation of polling places in Philadelphia by these "New" Dudes…..
My Tea Party friends aren't concerned about much more than a runaway Big Government $2 trillion deficit for the year 2010 and how we and our kids are going to pay it back. [T]axed [E]nough [A]lready.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, the NAACP has officially Jumped the Shark.
From the Urban Dictionary: “jump the shark – a term to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.”
Here is racism run amok at a Tea Party. No wonder the NAACP is reacting to it:
Congressional Candidate LTC Allen West Speaking Before The Tea Party Fort Lauderdale July 3rd Rally.
Mr. Jacobson, I would suggest you reconsider using the term "Minority Community". This is yet another infection of the special interest liberal culture into the mainstream. As long as any group cuts themsleves off from the ENTIRE community by huddling into their own specialized community we will continue to see this sort of divisive race, gender, disease fault lines in America.
Tell me the difference between saying The Community, as is done here in Baltimore to mean the black community, and La Raza ?
I am FED up with the NAACP. Go ahead, call me a "racist". only God can judge me!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: It is time to confront the race hucksters wherever and whenever they make their baseless accusations and vomit up their calumnies. They are trying, at the very least, to Balkanize this country and, at the very worst, to foment a race war in America. Charles Manson must be laughing his arse off watching this.
