This was completely unexpected:

A great way to end a career – another flip-flop! Hehehe.

Well writ.

this is tangential but have you seen the white house's official response on the sestak jobgate scandal? http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/memorandum-white-house-counsel-regarding-review-discussions-relating-congressman-se

Basically, sure we offered him a job, but it was an unpaid one, so its okay. i have yet to find any case that says that.

Btw, the criminal statute most on point is 18 usc 600. The plain language of the statute says that a crime has in fact been committed. so unless there is a precedent offering a surprising interpretation of that statute somewhere, they have confessed to a crime today. the fact that the white house counsel mentions no precedent to that effect suggests that none exist and he is just trying to buffalo his way through.

So Specter goes out not with a bang but a whine.
