UN Official Accuses US Of Demonizing Ahmadinejad

As if the UN’s long history of coddling tyrants, and its hideous “Durban” anti-Israel bashes, were not enough, now this. The President of the UN General Assembly has ripped into the United States for “demonizing” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:

UN General Assembly president Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann, a harsh critic of US foreign policy under president George W. Bush, accused Washington on Tuesday of demonizing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“I don’t think anyone can doubt that in our part of the world, Ahmadinejad has been demonized,” the former Nicaraguan foreign minister said as he briefed reporters on his recent foreign tour, including a stop in Iran where he attended a regional economic summit.

The most that Brockmann could bring himself to say about Ahmadinejad’s stated intention to destroy Israel is that such comments are “lamentable“:

Asked whether he approved of Ahmadinejad saying he wants to wipe a U.N. member state — Israel — off the map, d’Escoto said “if he said that, it’s lamentable,” but he quickly added that “words as such don’t kill” and it’s the actions that have to be watched.

“I don’t hate Israel, much less do I hate the Jewish people,” d’Escoto added. “In fact they are very high on my list of people that I love.”

Brockmann loves the Jewish people so much that he refused to attend the UN’s Holocaust commemoration services.

“lamentable” That’s about as strong as Obama describing Iran as “unhelpful.”

I like that other bit “‘words as such don’t kill’ and it’s the actions that have to be watched.”

Where to begin? Well how about Iran’s open and concerted support of Hamas. These are actions and they do kill. No mention of that, I notice.

And he’s criticizing the US for demonizing, through words, Iran. But it seems that Iran can say whatever they want like “we’re going to wipe out Israel” and not get any reproach or even acknowledgment that they said it. Cute.
