Shigella Spreading Fast in San Jose, CA, Homeless Encampments

The highly contagious bacteria Shigella spreads fast, causing “bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever and stomach pain that can last for weeks.”

Leslie! We need you!

The highly contagious bacteria Shigella has broken out in homeless encampments in San Jose, CA.

It’s so contagious that communities have a hard time containing it.

The bug infects people when they “come in contact with and swallow small amounts of bacteria from the stool of a person who is infected with shigella.”

People with shigella suffer from “bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever and stomach pain that can last for weeks.”

From KTVU:

“The health people came out, and they said people had diarrhea or stomachaches,” said Cindy Locs, who is homeless.

Diarrhea and stomachaches are just some of the symptoms of shigella.

The highly contagious bacterial infection is spread through feces and poor hygiene and Santa Clara County is seeing an outbreak among the homeless.

They have three confirmed cases and another 23 likely.

“Really we’re working aggressively to make sure that it doesn’t spread further beyond the population or encampments that we have been seeing reported illness in. I think that’s our main goal right now,” says Monika Roy, assistant health officer with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department.

The infection caused two hospitalizations so far.

The health department added more portable toilets with handwashing stations and fresh water.

One homeless woman said city officials have only given them Lysol wipes.

Most people recover on their own, but it’s not rare for people in vulnerable communities to need antibiotics.

“They already have preexisting health conditions, so this puts them over the edge,” Pastor Scott Wagers of Cham Ministry, a homeless advocate, told KTVU. “Diarrhea can do that. Dehydration can do that.”

California, only Commiefornia can end up with a “shigella” outbreak. Welcome to the 3rd world! FJB

“Shigella Spreading Fast in San Jose, CA, Homeless Encampments”

It’s a real bitch when the law of unintended consequences comes into play.
Gooder and harder, CA. Gooder and harder.

“One homeless woman said city officials have only given them Lysol wipes.’

Which is a Lysol wipe more than any government has any role in providing.
“Woe is me! The government isn’t solving my problem!”

“The bug infects people when they “come in contact with and swallow small amounts of bacteria from the stool of a person who is infected with shigella.”

So it’s a coin toss whether this is a “residential” sanitation problem or an STD.

Yeah… Choices meet consequences and have a nice day. Either public health (ring any bells) is a vital need sufficient to upend the entirely American life for months and years (see Covid mania) or it isn’t. So if the same public health professionals, the politicians who empowered them to run buck wild during Rona and adoring memoir the public who cheered alk the Covid mania on don’t act here in this instance with the same sorts of draconian policy mandates….meh they are choosing to not only accept this outbreak as normal and acceptable but discrediting themselves even further while wasn’t sure was possible but here it is.

If each homeless person would be given their own townhome, I believe this problem would mostly go away.

It can also be passed through unsafe drinking water and food so not a STD as normally thought of. “…bacteria from the stool…” does not mean sexual contact although that could be a vector. It can also be passed by not thoroughly washing your hands after changing the diaper of an infected baby.
Basically, it’s a disease of filth and unclean conditions.

lefty reminds us that the pasty white eurotrash were the first in the world to bring new diseases into new lands and systemically with racist intent to genocide the “first peoples”

but says this doesnt apply to any other group who comes to america with their diseases as america is the worlds originator of all the ills

Yeah … and the funny(?) part is that that is ACTUALLY what the Mongols did to the Europeans just a century before, when they intentionally catapulted plague-ridden bodies over the walls of Cafa, which brought the Black Death to Europe and ended up with something like a third of the population being liquidated. Not that the Plague wasn’t going to get to Europe, anyway, … but the Mongols certainly did everything they could to force the Europeans into the Black Death misery festivities.

Interestingly, the European reaction to the decimation of The Plague ended up in Western society being reorganized bringing on the Enlightenment and an explosion in productivity.

Homeless junkies are totally fine with living in their own human waste. They are passed out unconscious on the sidewalks of downtown SF lying in their own feces in daylight with people stepping over their bodies. Its the new normal for CA.

The difference being that the “white man” brought diseases never before seen, whereas the “diverse man” is reintroducing diseases conquered so long ago they have been practically forgotten.

I cannot help but recall the short story “Forgetfulness,” by John W. Campbell Jr. (under a pen name).
A tour guide of an alien civilization repeatedly confessing, “We have forgotten so much of the things the city-builders knew, their arts and techniques.”
The “tourist” explorers were convinced that this indicated that the current society was a decadent remnant of a mightier and more advanced civilization… but it was actually so far advanced beyond that civilization that those arts and techniques were stone-age history to them.

I recall that it is the enlightened Muslims that perpetuate polio in the world, because they think the infidels are trying to sterilize their populations.

Campbell is the best! The old Arcot, Wade and Morey space operas were great!

So very many lessons from scifi….and 1984 etc.

Shigella… forgive me, but that sounds like one of those made-up names one hears among a certain demographic.

Pastor Scott Wagers of Cham Ministry. He’s a finger-snappin’, Plato quotin’, homeless industry entrepreneur and camp gig worker. His groupies number in the one-handed finger count range.

Maybe Pastor Scott can call up The Flying Spaghetti Monster for a Silicon God Simulation Intervention.

Shigella is gross.. I get it.. It lasts a long time.. Now add to that mix of sick people a bunch of “newcomers” that bring with a bunch of other diseases.

I think we are seeing the tip of the iceberg.

The mode of infection puts at least half of Biden’s cabinet at risk. They look like devotees of fecal parties.

Sounds like a grand old time in Cali. Wonder how they will incorporate this into one of their “hey move to California, it’s sh*ty out here” commercials.? And to make it even more fun we are seeing “extensively drug resistant shigella” cases. These little buggers can even spread their drug resistant genes to other bacteria https://emergency.cdc.gov/han/2023/han00486.asp

I drove within viewing distance of a “state fruit Nazi” entry station on the California border a few days ago.

Maybe it’s time Arizona and Nevada erected their own border stations to check everybody crossing over from California for other kinds of “pests.”

California won’t be able to complain that it’s unconstitutional.

I got stopped at one years ago in my semi. Girl asked me if I had any citrus.
      “like grapefruit”?
      “no, oranges, lemons and stuff”
“uh, no. just a couple of grapefruit”
“ok. thanks and have a nice day”
