Hillary Declares War on Comey

Hillary Declares War on Comey

Clinton World gets into gear.

There have been numerous developments today in the reopening of the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton, most notably the declaration of war by Clinton World on James Comey.

The war started after almost 24 hours of shock and awe resulting from the Friday afternoon announcement left Team Hillary and the rest of Clinton World attempting to hold back the onslaught of news coverage.

Clinton World first tried to buy itself time by arguing over what the meaning of “reopen” was. It was comical, but arguing over definitions is what the Clintons do to buy themselves time until they can counter attack:

Arguing over definitions was only a holding measure. Clinton World quickly has shifted into War mode:

CNN reports, Clinton campaign wages new war against James Comey:

Hillary Clinton on Saturday questioned FBI Director James Comey’s decision to write to congressional leaders about emails uncovered in the bureau’s probe into Anthony Weiner, saying the timing of such a move was “unprecedented” and “deeply troubling.”

“It’s pretty strange to put something like that out with such little information right before an election,” Clinton told supporters in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the crowd booed at the mention of Comey’s letter. “In fact, it’s not just strange, it’s unprecedented and it’s deeply troubling because voters deserve to get full and complete facts.”

Clinton called on Comey to swiftly release more information, saying he must “explain everything right away, put it all right on the table.” ….

On a conference call with reporters, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta accused Comey of failing to be “forthcoming with the facts.” Podesta blasted both the timing and contents of the letter Comey sent to congressional leaders on Friday, summing the director’s actions as “providing selective information.”

Campaign manager Robby Mook echoed Podesta’s call for more information from Comey and suggested that the FBI has now waded into political territory.

“The Justice Department’s longstanding practice is: Don’t do anything seen as trying to influence an election,” Mook said. “It’s completely unfair to Secretary Clinton and it’s really unfair to the voters.”

The Hill reports, Dems train fire on Comey:

Democrats are ramping up pressure on FBI Director James Comey to provide details about new emails he says may relate to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server….

Top brass in the Democratic Party have called on Comey to quickly release more information to supplement his 3-paragraph letter to eight GOP chairmen and their Democratic counterparts on Capitol Hill.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Friday that it was “appalling” Comey would not exercise more caution given the current political climate.

“Without knowing how many emails are involved, who wrote them, when they were written or their subject matter, it’s impossible to make any informed judgment on this development,” Feinstein said in a statement.

“However, one thing is clear: Director Comey’s announcement played right into the political campaign of Donald Trump, who is already using the letter for political purposes. And all of this just 11 days before the election.”

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said that the controversy over Clinton’s server has always been based more on “froth than fact,” emphasizing that some reporting suggests the new emails may not amount to much.

“Now, as always, the public would benefit from more information,” Reid said, referencing the 3-paragraph letter. “Specifically, the public deserves more transparency from the FBI.”

Clinton’s running mate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) also said it was “troubling” that the public learned about the new emails through leaks to the press and not from the FBI director himself.

Hillary held a rare press conference on the issue:

Now the attacks on Comey are coming fast and furious, based mostly on alleged anonymous leaks from within the FBI:

The pressure will build as the media gets fully on board and the Clintons can turn Comey into a bimbo eruption and fire up the War Room.

In the meantime, this nugget just dropped — Huma allegedly doesn’t know how those emails got on the laptop used mostly by Anthony:

Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has told people she is unsure how her emails could have ended up on a device she viewed as her husband’s computer, the seizure of which has reignited the Clinton email investigation, according to a person familiar with the investigation and civil litigation over the matter.

The person, who would not discuss the case unless granted anonymity, said Abedin was not a regular user of the computer, and even when she agreed to turn over emails to the State Department for federal records purposes, her lawyers did not search it for materials, not believing any of her messages to be there.

Consider this something of an Open Thread. I’ll add any new developments through the night and morning. Readers can add updates in the Comments.

‘Weiner brings Hillary to her knees’

Hillary can declare war all she wants on Comey. The danger for her is that is she will focus more on destroying him now and not so much on campaigning. This is fine with me.

Regardless what the media says or how they spin it voters that I have spoken with (I am working at polls here in Florida during early voting) see corruption and coverups and it is associated with Clinton. No amount of handwringing or attacks by the Clinton campaign or the media will change this perspective.

Of course “Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has told people she is unsure how her emails could have ended up on a device she viewed as her husband’s computer.” It’s her only defense against perjury charges.

Huma may not have realized that they were there. It depends on what email protocol is used. AFAIK IMAP doesn’t have a local store, but POP stores them locally.

Nobody messes with Carlos Danger and gets away with it, not Comey, not Hillary, not even the U.S. of A.

legacyrepublican | October 29, 2016 at 9:19 pm

What I think Comey found all the emails that were released by Wikileaks.

Except this time, because they were part of an active program being used by a person in the email chain, they could be legally used since they weren’t stolen and possibly altered by Wikileaks.

OnlyRightDissentAllowed in reply to legacyrepublican. | October 29, 2016 at 11:51 pm

Except WikiLeaks didn’t release any emails from Clinton’s server or written by Clinton.

Clinton has demanded that the ‘evidence’ be released. Let the chips fall where they may. Trump is still a long way from signing any contracts for concrete.

Not yet. I wouldn’t make any bets that *all* the shoes have been dropped.

      (So to speak…)

FBI can’t just do a dump of these e-mails. If they’re anything like the Team Hillary e-mails they’ve already examined, there’s all sorts of classified data in there. As a responsible government agency, the FBI will have to redact that stuff. And to do that somebody with suitable clearance has to sift through it … all of it.

Recall how long it took the State Department to sort through the e-mails from Hillary’s homebrew server. Months. FBI can’t reasonably be expected to do it any faster.

All of which Team Hillary knows perfectly well. The demand that FBI lay out what it knows—and lay it out right now!!!—is a bluff.

When Leos take a computer, they generally only keep it for a little while. They image the hard drives and then return it the owner.

So Huma still has the laptop. The emails went through Hillary’s server. She has them. So instead of asking for Comey to do something that he cannot do. Why doesn’t she simply release the email herself?

twinsonic in reply to RodFC. | October 30, 2016 at 4:15 pm

No need to go to Department of Justice for a warrant – Just ask Carlos Danger – aka Anthony Wiener for it. He’s go nothing to lose at this time, and I’ll bet he well give up the goods. At this period, I have read that Wiener gave up the goods…..

Gonna love to see how they paint Comey as a member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy!

Next accusation: Wiener was cleverly planted into the Clinton entourage by the Russians, Donald Trump…or both!

Screw the US Constitution, but boy everyone better follow the justice department’s “longstanding practice.”

There has to be a limit to how much crap Obama & Co. are willing to shovel for Hillary Clinton. He’s rapidly approaching the point where Hillary’s shit show of a train wreck is going to become HIS legacy.

OnlyRightDissentAllowed in reply to Merlin. | October 29, 2016 at 11:40 pm

Not as long as it is a fraction of what the republicans have shoveled for Trump.

See how corrupt the Left is? They have to pretend Trump is equivalent, and somehow that makes what Hillary does okay.

let me know when Trump loses Iraq, Libya and Syria. Let me know when he sets up a private server in the bathroom of his house and uses it to transmit TS/SCI messages.

You seem to have lost track of what is actually IMPORTANT and have allowed yourself to be bogged down in the trivial.

tom swift in reply to Merlin. | October 30, 2016 at 1:33 am

This could actually be the key to Comey’s apparently inconsistent behavior.

When the evidence he had might have justified indictment for illegal mishandling of classified material, and maybe even a bit of perjury here and there, he might have decided that it wasn’t worth proceeding, because even with a conviction Obama would have been able to grant a few pardons without taking any serious political heat. While there are millions of Americans who know about the seriousness of mishandling secret material (even if genuinely accidental), there are far more who don’t, and probably think the whole thing is rather obtuse. This larger group would fall for the inevitable Democratic claim that the criminal proceedings were all just a political witch-hunt.

The most honest and straightforward thing for Comey to do would have been to proceed with recommendations for indictments, knowing perfectly well that Lynch would blow them off, or that Obama would torpedo everything afterward. But the practical end result would have been the same, whether Comey recommended indictments or not.

But … just to speculate … suppose he comes across something much more serious. A piece of a negotiation to sell classified info to a foreign entity, with mention of a price, the dropoff method (most likely the Clinton Global Initiative), and the address of the account where an e-mail containing the information could be found with a little mild hacking. Or maybe hints of espionage; some useful material forwarded to an address in Tehran or Pakistan.

A recommendation for indictment on a charge of espionage or treason might not be so easy for Lynch to ignore, or for Obama to consider pardoning. If he has evidence for such a case, Comey (assuming he’s not a bought-and-paid-for Clinton agent) might well reverse his earlier course and recommend indictment.

It all depends on what Comey has, and what he’s not saying. Team Clinton does seem to be worrying that it might be something major.

This is all sheer speculation, of course. All in good fun.

“Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has told people she is unsure how her emails could have ended up on a device she viewed as her husband’s computer, the seizure of which has reignited the Clinton email investigation”

I’ve been thinking about this. This could be REALLY BIG. When you use Outlook Anywhere to connect to an Exchange mailbox it downloads the entire mailbox to a local OST file on the computer.

Let’s say that Huma out of convenience uses Weiner’s computer one day to access her mailbox at Clintonmail.com. Outlook dutifully makes a copy of her mailbox to the computer and she forgets all about it.

Now here is the trillion dollar question, what if that copy was made BEFORE the great Clinton mail purge? If that’s the case, then the computer just might have emails that otherwise were deleted and bleached.

I came here to ask about this possibility; I”m not defending her, but she could be telling the truth and she really doesn’t know how her emails got into her husband computer. Being HRC right-hand woman maybe what the FBI found was the proof of “intent” that Comey said she didn’t have or very clear evidence for an obstruction of Justice charge.

Exiliado in reply to Ironman. | October 29, 2016 at 10:41 pm

OST files can be a bitch, or a blessing, depending on which side you stand.
Let’s say that Huma did use Outlook to check her email on Carlitos’ computer only once. Outlook could have made a snapshot of Huma’s entire mailbox at that time. That snapshot would/could also include any folders or calendars shared by other users at the time. It’s not crazy to think that Hillary’s mailbox and calendar(s) could be shared to Huma. All that information would remain in that computer, even if deleted from the server.
    Crazy, huh?
Same situation is true about ANY computer used by Abedin to check her emails.
Whether they find the smoking gun on these files or not, the mere presence of an OST file with cached emails is further evidence of how negligent and incompetent were Hillary and her team in their handling of confidential information.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to Ironman. | October 29, 2016 at 11:38 pm

That may be, but if she knew those emails were on Carlos’s laptop, she lied to the FBI. That’s a federal offense. It may just be that she didn’t tell the FBI about them because she didn’t think they’d ever have occasion to look at his computer. But then they arrested him and seized it.

No wonder Huma is hiding. The next door to get a knock from the FBI is hers.

“That may be, but if she knew those emails were on Carlos’s laptop, she lied to the FBI. That’s a federal offense.”

Correct… however proving that she knowingly lied is a pretty big and potentially difficult thing to do.

I’m sure once or twice in all of our lives, we’ve all deleted some content or knowingly been dishonest as to something we know/have done… and hoped/prayed that no one knows the specifics of what we did… and made it a point never to mention in an email or conversation “Oh yeah, I accidentally took home a whole bunch of classified information, I knew I wasn’t supposed to, but I’m pretty sure I deleted it later… thankfully, no one will ever know what I did.” (as just one example).

Yes, if you understand how SMTP/POP/IMAP work you know those emails are not “gone.”. Somebody with subpoena power who really wanted them could find them.

She’s making a mistake by going to war. It just makes her corruption the center of attention. She should have played it off as no big deal. But, I’m not going to interrupt her self-destruction.

“Donald Trump . . . is already using the letter for political purposes.”
As is Hillary.

The more HRC stirs the fecal pot, the more it will stink.

Too many leftists on record praising Comey. Since the investigation will not be closed before the election, she should have smiled, uttered some banality about justice, and moved on. Now, she’s guaranteed that this story will be what’s for dinner until her next oppo dump. And that dump had better be a good one to chase away this boogiemeister of a story

Had she done that the press likely would have played along.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to (((Boogs))). | October 29, 2016 at 11:22 pm

Maybe the Clinton people thought it was all good because of the polls and the voter machine being in place, that they emptied their anti-Trump arsenal

We may be seeing another round of Harry Reid/Romney paid no income tax made-up from thin air assaults.

I realize it’s hard to keep track of all the players without a scorecard, but the testimony Huma made about emails that is being bounced around the news comes from the Judicial Watch civil lawsuit. Lying to them isn’t on the same scale. At any rate, even what we know about her existing testimony ought to have been enough for perjury charges, but the FBI seems not to have been especially bothered by that. That’s why I continue to wonder what has actually changed.

DieJustAsHappy | October 29, 2016 at 10:17 pm

10 days to Election Day. Instead of the candidates focusing on major issues, this will dominate the conversation, with a willing MSM providing assistance. The email scandal has been ongoing for so long I wonder if there won’t be a backlash, actually generating a sympathy vote for Hillary.

This miserable campaign cycle can’t come to an end soon enough for me.

JackRussellTerrierist in reply to DieJustAsHappy. | October 29, 2016 at 11:31 pm

That is one fargin’ ugly woman.

I can see why everyone here is giddy. Trump is losing and this is his only prayer. Now if he believed in anything besides himself, his prayers might be answered.

No one feed this troll. The Admins should ban him.

Sidebet that its a Rag’s sock puppet.

Althouse has the means to see this, I wonder if the admins here have the same software.

tom swift in reply to Fen. | October 30, 2016 at 4:14 am

It looks like Althouse is using Blogger, and LI is using WordPress. However all blog or BB/forum packages I’ve ever used track and remember user names and IP addresses. If a user is logged in under different usernames (using two browsers simultaneously) he could carry on a comment war with himself, but since the IP address would be the same for both usernames, the admins could tell. If not simultaneous, the situation is more complex, as most of us use dynamic IP addresses, which may change every time we log in. And the IP tracker is easily fooled if a user works through a proxy server, which is very easy to do and would make it look like he’s in, say, Russia (but don’t tell the Democrats, they’ll die of conniption fits).

Most mobile web browsers go through proxies, and I’ve noticed in my logs that a majority of traffic is now from phones.

Oh, no! You just took away Barry’s one good post. Shame, really,

So you think its a reach that Rags, getting beat up here everyday, would use a sock puppet? Or that we have an infestation of paid Soros trolls?

The wikileaks confirm that Team Hillary has paid at least 1 mil to hire trolls to infect social media with her propaganda. And quite often, its the only thing that explains how people could make such irrational and outrageous remarks without any shame.

Next you’ll be telling me its silly to think I won’t be able to keep my health care plan or my doctor…

Fen. Please stop with this nonsense. Rags is not using another account; he is not a troll of any kind. You, however, are beginning to be a bit obsessed and not a little trollish, yourself.

Unhappy, apparently, being rude to and about Rags and this website, you’ve now branched out to Barry.

Enough. No one wants to read your rantings, so give it a rest.

Ragspierre in reply to Zachary. | October 30, 2016 at 2:41 pm

          You poor daft old thing.

I hold an MBA, earned at the same time I took my JD, with an emphasis in marketing.

I could lead you around by the nose if I wanted and was less ethical.

Nobody “beats me up”. I say things that I think need said as a NOT herd thinking conservative. I know very well how they’ll be received, just as I know exactly how to spoon-feed you and others here so I could be “Captain Up-Thumbs” every flucking day.

My own integrity won’t permit that, so I have to put up with the monumentally stupid shit of people like you.

Just FYI, Prof. Bill knows who I am, has my law firm address, and knows that I never post as anything, anywhere but Ragspierre.

          You lying sack of filth.

Rags: “I hold an MBA, earned at the same time I took my JD, with an emphasis in marketing. I could lead you around by the nose if I wanted and was less ethical.”

He said as he let his friends pull him away…

          “Nobody “beats me up”.

Then why do you keep whining about it? You poke people and then play the victim when they smack you down. Either stop doing that or stop whining about the pushback. Choose one.

“My own integrity won’t permit that, so I have to put up with the monumentally stupid shit of people like you.”

More bullshit. You don’t address the arguments I make, you don’t even try to refute them, you just toss out insults.

“Prof. Bill knows who I am, has my law firm address, and knows that I never post as anything, anywhere but Ragspierre.”

Don’t believe you. You are “known” here as being intellectually dishonest. You have zero credibility. But do go on, tell us how smart and cultivated you are as you play keyboard commando like some college dropout stuck in his mom’s basement.

Rags’ credibility exceeds your own by miles, Fen. Many many miles. Read your last, say, fifty comments on LI: how many are focused on your impotent hatred of Rags and foot-stomping rage that your will has not been done? You harp on it and harp on it. Endlessly. Almost exclusively. What do you think this does to your own credibility?

While I’m a bit flattered that you are so taken with my description of the LI comment game designed to oust Rags (and doomed to failure), I do find it odd not only that you have clearly not understood my point but that you so rarely have an original idea. Have you noticed that, Fen? You just type up what you read and then present it as your own idea (usually completely missing the original point and getting it all wrong, as here). Why is that? Do you just find it easier to use other people’s thoughts than to have your own?

As to your final paragraph: believe Rags on his point about the prof. You are wrong. Again.

Fuzzy Slippers: “Please stop with this nonsense. Rags is not using another account; he is not a troll of any kind.”

No, he’s dishonest. So its not a reach that he would employ sockpuppets. My experience with him has been much different than yours.

Fen, you have no idea what you are talking about. None.

          Period.

Give it a rest, Fen. You wouldn’t know Rags if you fell over him. Nor, for that matter, would I.

You can be civil and stop attacking him hoping to provoke a more intense response that your fellows will imagine, despite all evidence to the contrary, puts Rags in wrong, or you can continue doing that. But look at the success rate of that tactic. How many have come and gone on the altar of getting Rags banished? And isn’t he still here? Don’t you have anything better to do? I’m seriously stunned that you people have eight, ten hours a day to spend obsessing about someone you don’t know, will never know, and can’t do a thing about. It’s a gob-smacking waste of one’s life. But hey, if that’s all you have to live for, who am I to judge?

Barry in reply to Fen. | October 30, 2016 at 11:25 am

No need to apologize. I was talking to you.

Fen in reply to Barry. | October 30, 2016 at 2:30 pm

/sorry Zach the above was meant for Barry, I hit the wrong “reply”

Are there trolls, paid ones roaming the internets? And LI?

          Of course.

          Is Rags one?

As I said, take your meds.

Just curious: why are you reading this website? Daily Kos seems like it would be better suited to you.

Here’s an interesting wrinkle which I haven’t seen mentioned in the press yet. If any of these e-mails are dupes of the big pile Hillary gave to State, and which State took forever to “clear” for release in tiny batches, these copies will still have all the metadata contained in their headers. Recall that all that data was stripped out when Hillary printed the e-mails, rather than turn them over in electronic form, thus raising the spectre that the headers contained things of either security or forensic interest that she wanted to hide.

Perhaps the most unexpected factor apparent throughout Hillary’s Excellent Server Adventure has been the strikingly primitive technical competence of Team Hillary, the Twitterverse, and the press in general. They’re operating at the level of bearskins and flint knives. We’re not seeing twenty-first century minds at work; White House material these people are not.

Yeah…
Cheap shot.
Hillary want’s Comey to disclose evidence in an active investigation, which is on it’s way to prosecution?
Heck yes, she does.
But he can’t do that without compromising the whole thing.
She knows that.
And she knows she is playing him. For P.R.
Comey:
Keep Mum.
Drop the whole load of bricks in discovery.

Very dumb move for her to attack the head of the FBI. He will not be intimidated by this and will most likely make him more resolute and determined. Not very statesman like of her… but she never takes any responsibility for her misdeeds

For Hillary, the only good timing for investigating her crimes and corruption is either:
(A) Never, or
(B) After the election, aka, never.

“John Podesta accused Comey of failing to be “forthcoming with the facts.”

Hillary could have turned over all her e-mails after she left the State Department. Then there would be no October Surprise, blaming this on anyone else is complete BS!

I noticed that Among the tweets posted above was one of Marc Ambinder’s. He calls Republicans liars. This is from a “journalist” whose Corrupticrat-for-Clinton creed was established years before Wikileaks. See:
