Prime Minister Netanyahu Says What We’re All Thinking About Orlando Terrorist Attack

“Why did the terrorist murder them? Because he was driven by a fanatical hatred.”

Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, released a statement on the Orlando terrorist attack that targeted the LGBTQ community this past weekend. His statement was posted to Facebook.

Unlike many American politicians, PM Netanyahu had no problem identifying the terrorist’s motives or speaking directly to the ideology behind them.

Text of his statement here:

In Orlando, a terrorist walks into a nightclub and murders nearly 50 human beings. Sons and daughters, brothers and sisters cut down in cold blood.

They did nothing wrong. They were dancing with friends, they were enjoying music with loved ones.

Why did the terrorist murder them?

Because he was driven by a fanatical hatred.

He targeted the LGBT community because he believed they were evil.

Now, the murderer wasn’t alone.

Regimes and terrorist organizations around the world ruthlessly persecute the LGBT community.

In Syria, ISIS throws gays off rooftops.

In Iran, the regime hangs gays from cranes.

Too many people have remained silent in the face of this awful persecution.

This week’s shooting wasn’t merely an attack on the LGBT community. It was an attack on all of us, on our common values of freedom and diversity and choice.

Radical Islamist terror makes no distinction between shades of infidel.

This week it was gays in Orlando. A few days before that it was Jews in Tel Aviv. Before that it was music fans in Paris; Travelers in Brussels; Yazidis in Iraq; Community workers in San Bernardino; Christians and journalists in Syria.

All of us are targets.

We believe that all people are created in the image of God.

ISIS, by contrast, believes that all people who aren’t just like them deserve to die.

We will not be terrified into submission.

We will fight back. And we will triumph.

Today I ask you to reach out to friends in the LGBT community. Comfort them.

Tell them you stand together, we stand together as one. And that you will always remember the victims.

Tell them they will never be alone, that we are all one family deserving of dignity, deserving of life.

I have no doubt that those who seek to spread hate and fear will be defeated.

Working together we will defeat them even faster.

We need to stand united, resolute in the belief that all people regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their race, regardless of their ethnicity, all people deserve respect, deserve dignity.

OMG! This is what our feckless leader should have said to us! Why can’t we have a leader that understands us and offers us his love and protection instead of obama’s cheap lectures on what is wrong with America!

I’m glad a guy like Bibi heads a government anywhere.

I wish we had one like that here. Instead we’ve got the crappy choice we do.

Bibi has been terrible for Israel. He gave away Hevron, he has released thousands of terrorists to kill again, he has imprisoned people without trial, he has arbitrarily forbidden private construction in Jewish towns, and demolished Jewish homes, while ignoring Arab construction, he has repeatedly broken his word to coalition partners and to the public, and acted in complete disregard of individual rights. That he’s one of the better choices available is as sad as our lack of decent choices here.

What is with all the down-twinkles? Can anyone challenge the facts I have laid out? Or is it like the Trump-worshippers who don’t care about facts, and would rather enjoy their fantasies?

Is twenty years not long enough for people to have learned that Bibi is Bad for the Jews?

Netanyahu had no problem identifying the terrorist’s motives

One slight problem: There is no evidence for the motives he claims to have identified. He’s guessing, just like everyone else is.

He targeted the LGBT community because he believed they were evil.

That may very well be true. Or it may not. Nobody knows. He may have chosen that target because it was gay, as everyone is assuming, but he may also have chosen it despite that fact, or he may have been completely indifferent to that fact.

Ragspierre in reply to Milhouse. | June 15, 2016 at 3:58 pm

I take your point, of course. It could’ve been that…of all the target-rich venues he knew about…Pulse was just packed with targets.

Still, it isn’t a bad or false premise to be going on.

The bottom line is that the killer attacked Western values while associating himself with ISIS, regardless of the skinny.

Milhouse in reply to Ragspierre. | June 15, 2016 at 4:02 pm

Or he could have chosen Pulse because he was most familiar with it, and was most confident that he could succeed there.

Ragspierre in reply to Milhouse. | June 15, 2016 at 4:07 pm

True. It could have presented the best possible tactical conditions.

As it grimly proved out, if that was his thinking, he was right.

DaveGinOly in reply to Milhouse. | June 16, 2016 at 2:27 am

He may have attacked Pulse specifically because it was an easy target, but it was a target because of his hate infidels of every stripe. The fact he went for the soft target is only a matter of tactical consideration and not one of motive or purpose.

The motive was either a moral imperative or a personal grudge.

But Bibi isn’t a member of the wholly owned and operated CAIR subsidiary that America’s Democratic party is.
That should ‘splain it. Chris Murphy, Richard Blumenthal, Corey Booker, are you listening?

Now, see, why could Trump have said that.

Bibi had a classier response to our mass murder than Obama has ever had in response to a mass murder of Israeli citizens.

Eastwood Ravine | June 15, 2016 at 7:00 pm

Once again, Benjamin Netanyahu demonstrates what statesmanship and leadership looks like.

Milhouse in reply to Eastwood Ravine. | June 16, 2016 at 12:13 am

Yes, he’s very good at demonstrating what they look like. He’s just not so good at actually practising them. He gives good speech, and then does the opposite.

This is what leadership is, and what a leader sounds like!

Milhouse in reply to Romey. | June 16, 2016 at 12:14 am

Unfortunately, as Israelis have discovered the hard way, it’s not enough to sound like a leader, you have to actually be one, and Netanyahu is not.

Why not replace your stupid avatar with a nice swastika? Yours is the most anti-Semitic rant I have ever seen on any site. If you do not like the prime minister that is your right but to make these stupid claims and then follow up with more of the same baseless claims is childish. Show us the facts or shut up!

Milhouse in reply to inspectorudy. | June 17, 2016 at 12:05 pm

What the **** are you on about? Since when is it antisemitic to tell the truth about a politician who has been a disaster for his country? The facts are all evident; that you’re unaware of them just displays your own blinding ignorance. Seriously, what facts do you need shown? What do you think you know about Netanyahu that makes you think he has been anything short of a disaster? What has he done that makes you think he’s been better for Israel than Carter or 0bama were for the USA? Can you name anything he’s done to make Israel safer? Or do you not actually give a **** about Israelis’ safety, or their civil liberties, so long as you can hear an inspiring speech once in a while?

Bold prediction: leftists will spill at a lot more ink being outraged at this statement than they ever will at the actual terrorist.

buckeyeminuteman | June 16, 2016 at 7:49 am

Given our choices in November, I think I’ll write Netanyahu in.

Common Sense | June 16, 2016 at 7:52 am

Bravo Prime Minister Netanyahu

Many of us in the United States wish we had a strong leader who told the truth.
